Polygenic Collagen Variants and Their Association With Ligament Injury Patterns in Patients With Knee Ligament Injuries.

Knee ligament injuries, particularly anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears, represent a major cause of functional limitation in physically active individuals. While biomechanical and environmental factors are well-established contributors, increasing evidence suggests that genetic variability in collagen-related genes may influence individual susceptibility to ligament injury. Most previous studies, however, have focused on elite athletic populations, limiting their applicability to routine clinical settings. A prospective cross-sectional study was conducted in 94 adult patients with clinical

A new technique for sacrospinous ligament fixation: endoscopic sacrospinous ligament fixation (Peker technique).

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study is to introduce a new technique, endoscopic sacrospinous ligament fixation (e-SSLF), and to present its success rate and advantages. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The hospital records of women who underwent e-SSLF and simultaneous vaginal hysterectomy due to stage 4 pelvic organ prolapse (POP) were evaluated. Unlike the classical SSLF technique, in e-SSLF the sacrospinous ligament (SSL) was exposed with two retractors, then visualized with a 5 mm diagnostic hysteroscope. The SSLF was performed endoscopically with Deschamps ligature needles. In the 24th postoperative

Application of internal brace ligament augmentation technique in knee ligament injury: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are common and can lead to significant knee instability and an increased risk of long-term cartilage damage. Given the emerging role of internal brace ligament augmentation (IBLA) in treating these injuries, this systematic review aimed to evaluate the collective evidence on the safety and effectiveness of IBLA in patients with anterior cruciate ligament injury. METHODS: We systematically searched the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science databases until July 2025. The literature was screened according to the inclusion and e

Ultrasound and Elastosonographic Features of the Patellar Ligament in Dogs Affected by Cranial Cruciate Ligament Disease.

This study aims to evaluate the morpho-functional change in the patellar ligament in dogs with cranial cruciate ligament disease. We hypothesized that it may show increased thickening and stiffness with increasing days from onset to diagnosis instead of trauma. Understanding this aspect has implications for the choice of timing for treating patients suffering from cranial cruciate ligament disease, as well as the contextualization of patellar ligament desmitis pictures after surgical treatment with tibial plateau leveling osteotomy or tibial tuberosity advancement. Thirty-three dogs affected b

Reconstruction of the Posterior Cruciate Ligament and Medial Collateral Ligament With a Single Combined Femoral Tunnel.

BACKGROUND: Lesions of the medial collateral ligament (MCL) are the most common knee ligament injuries and, when they occur in isolation, they often progress with satisfactory outcomes using conservative treatment. However, MCL lesions associated with anterior cruciate ligament or posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injuries in knee dislocations should be reconstructed to prevent failure of the central pivot. In knees with combined injuries involving the PCL and the MCL, the confluence of tunnels in the medial femoral condyle can be a potential problem during reconstruction surgery. INDICATIONS

The relationship of proximal lateral collateral ligament hyperintensity with knee joint ligament and meniscus pathologies.

BACKGROUND: Hyperintensity in the proximal lateral collateral ligament (LCL) is often confusing. This appearance may be alone or accompany other pathologies. PURPOSE: To investigate the relationship between the signal intensity (SI) change in the proximal LCL and the knee joint pathologies. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The knee MRI scans taken between 2020 and 2022 were queried retrospectively. Patients with acute trauma, instability, knee surgery, or high-grade osteoarthritis were excluded. Included patients were divided into two groups as normal SI and increased SI according to proximal LCL. The

Clinical Outcomes of Arthroscopic Ligament-Sparing Dorsal Capsulodesis for Partial Scapholunate Ligament Tear.

Introduction  Various wrist arthroscopy techniques can be used in the management of scapholunate ligament (SLL) partial tears but their success has not been proven. Arthroscopic techniques including thermal shrinkage are becoming more popular in the management of partial SLL injuries. We hypothesized that arthroscopic ligament-sparing capsular tightening yields reliable and satisfactory results for the management of partial SLL tears. Methods  A prospective cohort study was conducted on adult (age ≥18 years) patients with chronic partial SLL tears. All patients failed a trial of conservative m

Painful Palpation of the Tibial Insertion of the Anterolateral Ligament Is Concordant With Acute Anterolateral Ligament Injury.

BACKGROUND: The anterolateral ligament (ALL) has been shown to contribute to the rotational stability of the knee. However, no clinical sign specific to ALL injury has been described. PURPOSE/HYPOTHESIS: The primary aim of this study was to determine the concordance between pain elicited upon ALL palpation and ALL injury diagnosed by ultrasonography (US). The secondary aim was to look for a relationship between ALL injury and high-grade pivot shift. We hypothesized that an ALL lesion can be diagnosed clinically in an acute knee injury by palpating its tibial insertion. STUDY DESIGN: Cohort s

A Ligamentous Agony: Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome as an Under-Recognized Cause of Abdominal Pain.

Median arcuate ligament (MAL) syndrome (MALS) is a rare clinical entity characterized by chronic abdominal pain resulting from compression of the celiac artery by the MAL. We present a case of MALS with imaging evidence of anterior compression of the celiac artery on expiration, which was relieved on inspiration. A 33-year-old woman presented with intermittent upper abdominal pain since three months. The pain was associated with nausea, abdominal bloating and diarrhea. Physical examination revealed a palpable abdominal aorta with no bruit. Abdominal sonogram, upper and lower gastrointestinal e

Investigation of fibrillin microfibrils in the canine cruciate ligament in dogs with different predispositions to ligament rupture.

Cranial cruciate ligament disease (CCLD) is the most common cause of pelvic limb lameness in dogs but its precise aetiopathogenesis is uncertain. Fibrillin microfibrils (FM) are complex macro-molecular assemblies found in many tissues including ligaments, where they are thought to play an important mechanical role. We hypothesised that FM ultrastructural variation correlates with the differing predisposition of canine breeds to CCLD. Non-diseased cranial and caudal cruciate ligaments (CCLs and CaCLs) were obtained from Greyhound (GH) and Staffordshire Bull Terrier (SBT) cadavers. Fibrillin mic…

Risk analysis of tunnel collision in combined anterior cruciate ligament and anterolateral ligament reconstructions.

BACKGROUND: To assess the risk of tunnel collision in combined anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and anterolateral ligament (ALL) reconstructions. METHODS: Three-dimensional (3D) CT reconstructions of 32 knees after transtibial (TT) (N = 16) or anteromedial portal (AMP) (N = 16) ACL reconstruction were used to simulate potential tunnel collision of the femoral ACL tunnel if combined with a virtual ALL reconstruction. The minimal distance between tunnels, the ALL tunnel length, and the lateral femoral condyle (LFC) width were measured. Moreover, the relationship between the ALL tunnel and the i

Scaphoid fractures with scapholunate ligament involvement: Instability or ligamentous laxity? Role of arthroscopy and pinning.

PURPOSE: Percutaneous fixation of scaphoid fractures often does not allow the evaluation of potential ligamentous lesions. Arthroscopy is an useful tool in the management of scaphoid fractures to visualize potentially associated lesions. With arthroscopic assistance, we often found scapholunate ligament lesions. Our study's aim was to evaluate the role of arthroscopy in the treatment of scaphoid fracture and in particular if the alteration found was a real lesion causing instability or just a paraphysiologic laxity. Furthermore, we evaluated whether the scapholunate joint pinning alters the ou

Surgical Management and Treatment of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament/Medial Collateral Ligament Injured Knee.

The medial collateral ligament (MCL) is the most commonly injured ligament of the knee. The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is the most commonly injured ligament in conjunction with the MCL. Most MCL injuries can be treated nonoperatively, whereas the ACL often requires reconstruction. A good physical examination is essential for diagnosis, whereas radiographs and MRI of the knee confirm diagnosis and help guide treatment planning. Preoperative physical therapy should be completed before surgical management to allow for return of knee range of motion and an attempt at MCL healing.

The relationship of the marginal mandibular nerve to the mandibular osseocutaneous ligament and lesser ligaments of the lower face.

BACKGROUND: An in-depth understanding of the nuances of facial anatomy is the best means of preventing complications during facelift surgery. An appreciation of the operative details is complicated not only by the complexity of the anatomy but also by the variability in the nomenclature used. OBJECTIVES: The authors have attempted to clarify these issues by detailing the relationships of the ligaments of the lower face both to each other and to the marginal mandibular nerve. METHODS: The mandibular ligament, the platysma mandibular ligament, and the marginal mandibular nerve were identified …

The "footprint" anterior cruciate ligament technique: an anatomic approach to anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.

To address the technical limitations of the conventional transtibial technique and the steep learning curve associated with double-bundle anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction, we have defined a novel "footprint" technique that reliably allows for anatomic single-bundle ACL reconstruction with minimal technical complications. The technique merges the principles of carefully defining the ACL footprint anatomy with the use of a modified anteromedial portal reaming technique with a flexible guidewire and reaming system. The procedure offers the advantages of an anatomic ACL reconstructi

[Updates on ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament. Symptoms in patients with ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament].

Symptom prevalence of OPLL is estimated between 20% and 50%. Patients with OPLL have neurological disorders, pain/numbness, and trunk stiffness. These symptoms of stenotic myelopathy and of ossification. spondylosis deteriorate patients'quality of life. The ossification extends and elongates very gradually and tiny ossification at first visit hardly grows up to enough to cause myelopathy. A majority of patients experience a chronic course, but some suffer spinal cord injury. Preemptive surgery should be carefully contemplated because definite criteria have not been established yet.
