Photobiomodulation of Neurogenesis through the Enhancement of Stem Cell and Neural Progenitor Differentiation in the Central and Peripheral Nervous Systems.

Photobiomodulation (PBM) is the regulation of biological processes using light energy from sources such as lasers or light-emitting diodes. Components of the nervous system, such as the brain and peripheral nerves, are important candidate PBM targets due to the lack of therapeutic modalities for the complete cure of neurological diseases. PBM can be applied either to regenerate damaged organs or to prevent or reduce damage caused by disease. Although recent findings have suggested that neural cells can be regenerated, which contradicts our previous understanding, neural structures are still th

[Transcranial photobiomodulation in therapy of neurodegenerative diseases of the brain: theoretical background and clinical effectiveness].

Transcranial photobiomodulation (tPBM) is a form of light therapy that uses monochromatic visible and infrared light from non-ionizing radiation sources (lasers, LEDs) placed on the scalp, forehead, or intranasally to project light directly to target areas of the brain. Accumulated experimental and clinical data indicate the safety and potential efficacy of tPBM in some central nervous system diseases. This article briefly reviews the general concepts of tPBM, the results of experimental and clinical studies on the efficacy of tPBM in Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and brain stroke.

Evolution of compressive mechanical properties of early hypertrophic scar during laser treatment.

Laser therapy has been widely used in the treatment of hypertrophic scars (HPS), but whether the mechanical properties of HPS tissue after laser treatment can be restored to those of normal skin remains unclear. In this paper, the relationship between the evolution of compressive mechanical properties and histological changes of HPS tissues following three successive combined pulsed dye laser (PDL) and fractional CO2 laser (CO2) treatments was investigated by compression tests and histological analysis. The early HPS model of rabbit ear was established by CO2 laser ablation. The loading-unload

Supportive care of cancer patients with a self-applied photobiomodulation device: a case series.

PURPOSE: Oral mucositis (OM) and prolonged wound healing are common side-effects of cancer treatments. Photobiomodulation (PBM), previously called low-level laser, is currently part of the official guideline for OM prevention. However, all the PBM protocols relate to office-based devices, operated by professional health caregivers, requiring frequent applications. In the following case series, we present our experience with a self-applied consumer home-use PBM device for supportive care. METHODS: Five patients receiving cancer treatment presented at the clinic (female:male 3:2, 55-76 years ol

Combining Low Power Fractional CO2 With QS-NdYAG Toning in the Treatment of Melasma Reduces the Incidence of Punctate Leukoderma.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Q-switched Nd:YAG (QS-Nd:YAG) toning (low fluence, large spot size, and high frequency) has been used successfully for the treatment of melasma, especially in dark skin phototypes. Punctate leukoderma was found to be a frequent complication that reduced the safety of this procedure. Combining low power fractional CO2 laser, which is another effective melasma laser therapy, might improve the efficacy and safety of this procedure. The aim of this study was to evaluate  the effect of combining low power fractional CO2 laser with QS-Nd:YAG toning in the treatment of mela

Identification of the fate and regenerative mechanism of zebrafish melanocyte progenitor cells and melanocytes after laser-induced pigment ablation.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Lasers are known to be the most effective treatment modality for pigmentary skin diseases. However, melanocytes and melanin pigment often recur or leave post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation after the laser procedure. Studies have reported on the role of progenitor cells in pigment cell regeneration, which can be constantly replenished through mitosis. However, the response of unpigmented melanocyte progenitor cells to laser treatment is poorly understood. In this study, we used adult zebrafish skin as the melanocyte regenerative system and examined the response of mel

Advance in Functional Restoration of Injured Nerve with Low Level Laser and its Utilization in the Dental and Maxillofacial Region.

The inferior alveolar nerve and facial nerve are the two most important nerves in the dental and maxillofacial region. The injury to them is one of the major postoperative complications after alveolar surgery and orthognathic surgery. However, recovering the nerve function after injury takes a long time and the recovery effect tends to be unsatisfactory. In recent years, an intensively investigated technique, low level laser which has been applying in assisting the recovery of nerve function, has been gradually proved to be effective in clinically treating postoperative nerve injury. In this a
