BACKGROUND: Rectal bleeding, recurrent abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting in children could present a diagnostic as well as therapeutic challenge. Meckel's diverticulum (MD) is one of the causes. The objective of the current study was to evaluate the feasibility and outcome of laparoscopic management of MD.
METHODS: The clinical data of 33 children admitted with rectal bleeding and/or recurrent abdominal pain with no identifiable cause were reviewed over a period of 8 years. There were 23 boys and 10 girls with a mean age of 5.12 +/- 2 years (range, 3-12 years). In 21 cases, MD was an incid

The authors report the case of a 24 year old woman presenting with acute lower GI hemorrhage caused by a Meckel's diverticulum. Diagnosis was made by CT-enteroclysis and confirmed at surgery. This new imaging technique will be briefly described and compared to the other more traditional small bowel imaging techniques. The authors will then present the CT-enteroclysis imaging features of this congenital anomaly.

Meckel's diverticulum is an uncommon cause of acute abdominal pain and small bowel obstruction in adults. We present a case of a 31-yr-old man with recurrent vomiting and abdominal pain in whom the diagnosis of Meckel's diverticulum was not suspected until CT of the abdomen revealed multiple fluid-filled, dilated loops of ileum with distal collapse after normal abdominal radiographs. We suggest that CT may be helpful when the diagnosis of Meckel's diverticulum is suspected.

The first well documented case of villous adenoma arising in a Meckel's diverticulum not associated with a carcinoma is reported. A 21 year old man with long history of medically treated ulcerative colitis was admitted to hospital with severe pain and bleeding. Total abdominal colectomy and ileo-anal anastomosis was performed and during this procedure Meckel's diverticulum containing a villous adenoma showing minimal dysplasia was found and resected. The diverticulum was lined partly by ileal and partly by gastric epithelium, and the villous adenoma originated from the gastric mucosa.

Meckel's diverticulum is the most common congenital abnormality of the intestinal tract, occurring in 2% of autoptic studies. The case of an 85-year-old man referred to the Emergency Surgery Unit for intestinal obstruction and lower gastrointestinal tract bleeding is reported. Surgical exploration revealed a complicated Meckel's diverticulum full of coproliths, immersed in pus and blood. Examination of the resected diverticulum showed necrotic diverticulitis in the absence of ectopic gastric or pancreatic tissues.

At discovery of diabetes mellitus, complementary explorations revealed a superinfection of a giant Meckel's diverticulum. We present this clinical situation in one case and suggest possible nosologies. The epidemiology and clinical approach to Meckel's diverticulum are discussed.
