BACKGROUND: Regression of congenital melanocytic nevi is usually accompanied by the halo phenomenon and is considered a rare event.
OBJECTIVE: A 15-year-old woman presented for the evaluation of multiple halo nevi. She had on her trunk a figure-of-eight pigmentary lesion, which had been developed after the coalescence of two distinct congenital melanocytic nevi. Close to the indentation between the two portions of the lesion, there was an achromic rounded area, extending from the perinevic skin to the nevus, causing its partial regression.
METHODS AND MATERIALS: Dermoscopic examination discl

Hypomelanosis of Ito (incontinentia pigment achromians, systematized achromic nevus) is a cutaneous abnormality consisting of bizarre, patterned, macular hypopigmentation over variable portions of the body surface. Multiple associated defects in other systems occur in a significant precentage of affected individuals. Most commonly, the central nervous system, eye, and musculoskeletal structures are involved. It is suggested that the cutaneous abnormality, which is often detectable at birth or during infancy, may forewarn pediatricians of the possible emergence of defects in other organ systems

As the relative shortage of healthy tissue obviates the option of local soft tissue coverage, reconstruction of circumferential giant congenital melanocytic nevi (GCMN) on the upper extremity remains particularly challenging. Here the authors report a 3-stage procedure involving pre-expanded pedicled flap from the torso for the reconstruction of upper extremity after circumferential GCMN excision in pediatric patients. The giant nevus was completely removed and the size of the excised nevus was 31 × 14.5 cm. The donor site was primarily closed. No major complication was encountered. Reconstruc

BACKGROUND: dysplastic nevi (DN) share some clinical and histological features with melanoma and have been considered intermediate lesions toward malignant transformation. However, scientific evidence of DN representing melanoma precursors is still incomplete, and many observations pointed toward their being a distinct biological entity. The current definition of DN is also confusing and the practical consequence of this uncertainty is the excessive excision of DN with severe atypia. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small RNAs that regulate gene expression and whose global expression can classify normal

A lentiginous pattern of intraepidermal melanocytic hyperplasia, with mild to moderate, random cytologic atypia, forms the conventional basis for the histologic definition of a dysplastic nevus. It is proposed here that these changes actually represent the histologic pattern of a nevus in an active phase of radial growth. The lesser degrees of atypia considered by others to be required for the diagnosis are suggested to overlap changes commonly seen in banal nevi and lentigines. This hypothesis allows the parsimonious concept that a nevus, originating as a lentigo, can at the later sequential

Dermal melanosis is caused by deposition of melanin in melanophages or by free melanin in the dermis or in dermal melanocytes. Circumscribed dermal melanoses can be congenital or acquired and at times are nevoid in distribution. Bilateral nevus of Ota-like lesions and blue macules recently have been described in association with progressive systemic sclerosis. Macular amyloidosis and friction melanosis are also acquired dermal melanoses. It is important to distinguish dermal melanoses caused by the presence of melanocytes in the dermis from those produced by the presence of melanin free within
