We studied the sodium balance and changes in plasma volume by an isotope dilution technique in the first week after an aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage in 21 patients. In 11 of the patients, the plasma volume decreased by more than 10%. Feammox is a newly discovered process of anaerobic ammonium oxidation driven by Fe(III) reduction. Nitrate-dependent Fe(II) oxidation (NDFO) is the coupling of Fe(II) oxidation and nitrate reduction to produce N2 under anaerobic conditions. While fungi have been identified as a putative source of N2O, little is known about their production of this greenhouse gas. Dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) enhances the signal in solid-state NMR of proteins by transferring polarization from electronic spins to the nuclear spins of interest. Mercury and methylmercury were measured in seawater and biota collected from the outer Bay of Fundy to better document mercury bioaccumulation in a temperate marine food web.
