Early childhood caries (ECC) is a major pediatric oral health problem that may adversely affect normal occlusal and craniofacial development in children. Therefore, it is of interest to evaluate the relationship between early childhood caries (ECC) and developing malocclusion patterns in young children. A cross-sectional pedodontic-orthodontic assessment was conducted to determine how caries severity influences occlusal development. Data show a significant association between severe ECC and malocclusions such as increased overjet, crossbite and anterior open bite. Behavioral and dietary factor

Bulimia nervosa is an eating disorder characterized by consuming a large amount of food in a short amount of time followed by an attempt to rid oneself of the food consumed (purging), typically by vomiting, taking a laxative, diuretic, or stimulant, and/or excessive exercise, because of an extensive concern for body weight. The frequent contact between teeth and gastric acid, in particular, may cause: severe dental erosion, perimolysis, or the erosion of tooth enamel and swollen salivary glands. Constant vomiting can lead to gastroesophageal reflux. The aim of this article is to report two cas

UNLABELLED: The present report describes the application of a miniplate in the hard palate of a 36-year-old patient with a large anterior maxillary defect. The combination of orthodontic elastics with a titanium miniplate improved the stability of the prefabricated prosthesis. This structure retained the ointment gauze covering the wounds and maintained the facial contour. In addition, contracture deformity was prevented by insertion of the prefabricated prosthesis intraoperatively or immediately postoperatively. Furthermore, a soft diet could be ingested immediately postoperatively. The minip

The purpose of this article is to present the treatment of a 8-year-old boy with tooth ankylosis in teeth 85 and Class II division 1 malocclusion and to report a 10-year follow-up result. The patient was initially treated with a sagittal removable appliance, followed by an eruption guidance appliance and braces. The interceptive orthodontic treatment performed to recover the space lost by ankylosis of a deciduous tooth allowed a spontaneous eruption and prevented progression of the problem. The use of an eruption-guidance appliance corrected the dentoskeletal Class II, thus improving the patie

Mandibular third molar impaction causes many problems in the lower jaw. It has been assumed, for example, that impacted third molars are the cause of recurrent problems following orthodontic treatment. In order to prevent problems surgical removal of third molar buds, a germectomy, was proposed. An important factor was to predict the development of the third molar. In doctoral research, this was investigated. The causal relationship between the eruption of third molars and crowding of the lower front has never been proven. Therefore the preventive removal of asymptomatic impacted lower third m

INTRODUCTION: Probiotics are living micro-organisms that are likely to influence oral health by modulating the oral microbiota and offer a promising preventive approach to gum and dental disease. This approach is particularly relevant for orthodontic patients, who are more susceptible to gingival inflammation and plaque accumulation. The aim of this randomized controlled study was to compare the effects of a probiotic toothpaste versus a regular toothpaste on gingival health and plaque levels in orthodontic patients.
METHODS: Participants were recruited between 4 June 2024 and 15 July 2024, a

Severe malocclusion can contribute to several serious dental and physical conditions, such as digestive difficulties, periodontal disease, and severe tooth decay. Orthodontic treatment is mainly used to treat malocclusion. Forces in orthodontic tooth results in bone resorption on the pressure side and bone deposition on the tension side. Osteoblasts have been considered as the key component in bone regeneration on the tension side. However, the underlying mechanisms remain unclear. In this study, we focus on how mechanical stretch regulates the osteogenesis during orthodontic treatment. Human

With a worldwide incidence of 1/750 live births, facial clefts rank as the second most frequent congenital malformation. The term "sequelae" is used here to designate the conditions, which follow and are the result of labial-alveolar-palatal clefts. Most sequelae stem in fact from primary treatment and not from the initial malformation. However, there is no consensus regarding a management protocol. Among the 201 European centers treating this type of malformation, 194 different protocols are used for unilateral facial clefts alone! Unfortunately, primary surgery can trigger a wide range of ha
