DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING AND OROTRACHEAL INTUBATION IN CLINICALLY HEALTHY WILD SUNDA PANGOLINS (MANIS JAVANICA) IN SINGAPORE.

Pangolins are amongst the most overexploited species in the world and all eight species of pangolins are threatened with extinction. These animals are rare in zoological collections and often suffer high mortality rates in captivity. Maintaining healthy populations in captivity has become more important with the declining populations in the wild, but knowledge of veterinary care of these animals is limited. Interpreting radiography and ultrasonography images in a patient can be challenging without knowledge of normal findings. The Wildlife Healthcare and Research Center (WHRC) at Mandai Wildli

Middle Ear Barotrauma among Licensed Para-pilots of a Metropolitan City: A Descriptive Cross-sectional Study.

INTRODUCTION: Middle ear barotrauma is a tissue injury to the ear secondary to inadequate pressure equalisation between the middle ear and the external environment. Paragliding, though an exciting sport, has its own risks and hazards. Para-pilots experience a variety of ear-related symptoms due to pressure discrepancies between the middle ear and ambient air. Middle ear barotrauma amongst para-pilots is a common yet neglected problem. The aim of this study was to find the prevalence of middle ear barotrauma among licensed para-pilots of a metropolitan city. METHODS: A descriptive cross-sectio

Hemangioma of the External Auditory Canal and Temporal Bone: A Case Report and Comprehensive Literature Review.

Although hemangiomas are common in the head and neck area, they are uncommon in the temporal bone. External auditory canal (EAC) hemangiomas are a relatively uncommon otologic condition. In the English literature, only 29 cases of temporal bone hemangioma have been reported. We also present the case of a 32-year-old male patient who presented with an 8-month history of decreased hearing, tinnitus, and aural fullness on the right side. Otoscopic examination of the right ear revealed a smooth, oval, well-circumscribed, reddish, pulsatile, nontender mass, which was about 1 cm in diameter and occu

Myringosclerosis as a predictor of the requirement for a permanent pacemaker in patients with drug-related atrioventricular block.

AIMS: Drug-related atrioventricular block (DR-AVB) may develop in patients with underlying latent degenerative conduction disorders, especially with antiarrhythmics and antihypertensives. Although, according to the current guidelines, reversal is achieved with cessation of the inducing agent, this is not the case for nearly half of the patients. The pathophysiological processes of DR-AVB and myringosclerosis include systemic inflammation and degeneration. This study investigated the role of myringosclerosis in predicting irreversible high-grade DR-AVB despite drug cessation. METHODS: This obs

Sports audiology: Ear hygiene practices of gym users who wear earphones.

BACKGROUND: Technological advancements have facilitated the demand for electronic systems to track and measure progress during exercise activities. Electronic devices with music applications, such as iPods and smartphones, are popular during gym sessions as they support the ambiance to one's exercise programme. Earphones are the popular choice for the transmission of music to the gym user's ear. There is a direct correlation between the cardiovascular health and the aural health because of the effect of increased blood supply to the auditory system. Therefore, this research study explores the

OtoMatch: Content-based eardrum image retrieval using deep learning.

Acute infections of the middle ear are the most commonly treated childhood diseases. Because complications affect children's language learning and cognitive processes, it is essential to diagnose these diseases in a timely and accurate manner. The prevailing literature suggests that it is difficult to accurately diagnose these infections, even for experienced ear, nose, and throat (ENT) physicians. Advanced care practitioners (e.g., nurse practitioners, physician assistants) serve as first-line providers in many primary care settings and may benefit from additional guidance to appropriately de
