Primary extramedullary plasmacytomas (PEMP) are uncommon plasma cell neoplasms that generally occur in the submucosal tissue of the upper airway. Salivary gland PEMP is an extremely rare condition. This report describes a unique case of PEMP in the parotid gland associated with pulmonary amyloidosis. A review of all salivary gland PEMP's suggests that they behave similarly to PEMP's in other locations. The treatment of choice for localized disease is radiotherapy which should include regional lymphatics. Local control can be achieved in the majority of cases. The minority of patients develop s

Oncocytic lipoadenoma is an exceedingly uncommon neoplasm of the salivary gland composed of oncocytic epithelium and adipose tissue. Retrospective. Seven cases of oncocytic lipoadenoma were analyzed in order to further characterize the clinical and pathologic features of this rare tumor. The patients included six males and one female who ranged from 40 to 83 years of age (mean 62 years) at presentation. All tumors arose in the parotid gland. Grossly, the tumors were solitary, well circumscribed and had light brown to yellow cut surfaces. Histologically, the tumors were composed of an admixed p

BACKGROUND: Sebaceous adenoma of the salivary gland is an extremely rare, benign neoplasm that predominantly involves the major salivary glands. The major problem in dealing with sebaceous adenoma is the recognition of this entity to avoid confusion with other more aggressive neoplasms, such as mucoepidenmoid carcinoma. In particular, recognition of this entity in cytologic specimens is important to avoid radical surgery.
CASE: A 29-year-old woman presented with an enlarging parotid mass. Fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsy showed cellular smears composed of sheets and aggregates of cuboidal

BACKGROUND Salivary gland neoplasms present a diagnostic challenge due to their heterogeneous nature and varying histological subtypes. Recent studies have highlighted the potential role of inflammatory biomarkers, such as neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and systemic immune inflammation index (SII), in enhancing diagnostic accuracy for distinguishing between benign and malignant parotid gland tumors. This study aimed to evaluate the use of inflammatory biomarkers - NLR, platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), SII, and systemic inflammation response index (SIRI) - in the differential diagnosis

The cytologic diagnosis of acinic cell carcinoma (ACC) can be challenging due to its polymorphous appearance and sharing cytomorphologic characteristics with other benign and malignant neoplasms as well as non-neoplastic diseases, even though various histomorphological aspects of ACC have been documented. We presented a 39-year-old female patient applied with right pre-auricular parotid swelling spreading infra-auricular region which was gradually increased in size for 3 months. Ultrasonographic examination revealed hypoechoic well-circumscribed mass with 17 × 22 × 29 mm size. Magnetic resonan

Acinic cell carcinoma (ACC) is a low or intermediate-grade malignant epithelial neoplasm of the salivary glands that generally shows an indolent behavior. Most cases arise in the major salivary glands, especially the parotid gland. ACC is usually known as a low-grade malignant tumor; however, poorly differentiated and high-grade transformed variants have been reported and may tend to be late recurrence and metastasis. Our case was a 49-year-old woman with a history of a right parotid rapidly growing mass lesion, which was cytologically diagnosed as monomorphic adenoma on fine-needle aspiration

Sebaceous lymphadenoma is a rare salivary gland neoplasm most commonly occurring in the sixth to eighth decades of life. Cross sectional imaging typically demonstrates a multicystic expansile mass, most commonly occurring in the parotid gland, where the radiographic differential diagnosis would include Warthin tumor in this location and age group. Ultimately, the diagnosis is confirmed with the histopathologic findings of tubuloglandular epithelial profiles with sebaceous differentiation and cystic change set within a dense, benign lymphocytic infiltrate. These features are exemplified in this

Myoepithelioma is an uncommon benign neoplasm that most likely occurs in the parotid gland. Extra-salivary myoepitheliomas are rare, with less than 10 cases reported in the sinonasal cavity. We present a rare case of benign myoepithelioma with recurrent behavior, abundant extensions to adjacent structures, and resistant to treat clinical course, which influenced the patient's quality of life for more than 18 years. Histologic, immunohistochemical, and the potential differential diagnoses are discussed. The patient refused to undertake any more treatments, but after 15 months of follow-up, the

Warthin's tumor is a benign salivary gland neoplasm characterized by oncocytic epithelium and lymphoid stroma. We describe the incidental discovery of a CD5-positive monoclonal B-cell population within a classic Warthin's tumor of the parotid gland in a 72-year-old woman who presented with a painless, slow-growing left parotid mass. Core needle biopsy and subsequent parotidectomy demonstrated typical histologic features of Warthin's tumor along with a low-level (8%-9%) CD5- and CD23-positive B-cell population consistent with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL)-type monoclonal B-cell lymphocytos

A 15-year-old male presented to the hospital with a 2-month history of a right parotid mass. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed an encapsulated 3.7 cm mass. Fine-needle aspiration suggested a monomorphic adenoma (prior to utilization of the Milan Classification system). Total parotidectomy was performed with dissection and preservation of the facial nerve. Surgical pathology identified the lesion as sclerosing polycystic adenosis (SPA) after examining the histopathological and immunohistochemistry findings. SPA is a rare lesion which leads to inflammatory changes in the salivary gland. The mo

INTRODUCTION: Polymorphous low grade adenocarcinoma (PLGA) is a rare salivary gland neoplasm with an indolent course. It occurs primarily in the minor salivary glands but can rarely occur in the major salivary glands. It usually occurs in the fifth to seventh decades of life with female preponderance.
CASE REPORT: A 16-year-old male presented with recurrent painless swelling in the right preauricular region and with a history of surgical intervention at the same site in the past. His histopathology report was suggestive of pleomorphic adenoma. The swelling recurred after one year of excision

Histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is a malignant neoplasm showing the morphological and immunophenotypic features of mature histiocytes. Reported herein is a case of HS of the parotid gland region. A 53-year-old woman noticed a swelling of the right preauricular area. Preoperative fine needle aspiration cytology showed an admixture of pleomorphic atypical cells and mature lymphocytes. She underwent total parotidectomy. Grossly, the tumor was located at the parotid gland to subcutaneous tissue, and showed infiltrative growth with massive necrosis and hemorrhage. Microscopically, the tumor was composed o

Transoral parotidectomy allows for the management of parapharyngeal space tumors and accessory parotid gland tumors without the need for a transfacial/transparotid or mandible splitting procedure. It is a minimally invasive approach that permits a faster recovery and with a lesser risk of facial palsy.

Myoepithelial carcinoma is a neoplasm that classically arises in the parotid glands, nasopharynx, paranasal sinus, and nasal cavity of the head and neck. It rarely arises in other organs or soft tissues and involvement of genitourinary organs is distinctly rare. We describe a case of a 21-year-old male, presenting with nausea, weight loss, and worsening suprapubic pain over 3 months, found to have a large mass at the dome of the bladder. Partial cystectomy was ultimately performed revealing myoepithelial carcinoma of the bladder. The patient is free of disease at four years without the need fo

A case of acinic cell carcinoma of the right parotid gland metastasizing to the right iliac crest is presented. Generally, for this rare low-grade malignant salivary gland neoplasm, 20% of cases may have local recurrences whereas about 10% of cases have distant metastases. They may arise many years after the initial presentation of the original tumor. The most frequent locations are the cervical lymph nodes, liver, lungs, contralateral orbit and bones. Occurrence in the appendicular skeleton is very rare and in our knowledge this is the first report of metastases to the pelvis.

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Malignant salivary gland neoplasms present a significant diagnostic challenge, requiring the integration of clinical, radiological, and pathological assessments. Epithelial-myoepithelial carcinoma (EMC) is a rare malignant neoplasm that exhibits a biphasic histopathological pattern. Although the major salivary glands are most commonly affected, EMC can also involve minor salivary glands and, in rare instances, the seromucous glands of the upper aerodigestive tract.
PRESENTATION OF CASE: A 47-year-old male presented with a right-sided parotid mass. On physical exam
