Sports Level and the Personality of American Football Players in Poland.

Research on personality in sport is very popular as it allows prediction of the behavior of players in the starting situation. Hence, verifications of players due to their sports level may turn out to be crucial. Due to the dynamic development of American football in Poland, we undertook research to verify the relationship between the sports level and the personality of these players. The Big Five personality study that we carried out involved players aged from 20 to 29-the representatives of American football clubs in Poland (N = 140) from three league games levels: LFA 1 (n = 75), LFA 2 (n =

Addressing antagonism in the context of treatment for borderline personality disorder.

Antagonism, a personality trait implicated in the development of a range of externalizing disorders, has the potential to significantly impact the course of therapy given its relevance for interpersonal functioning. This commentary describes the process of developing cognitive behavioral modules for personality symptoms, a short-term intervention for borderline personality disorder that directly addresses the personality traits associated with this condition: negative affectivity, disinhibition, and antagonism. Antagonism, as it manifests in the context of borderline personality disorder, is o

Personality pathology underlying chronic prostatitis.

Personality testing was performed on 56 patients with clinical symptoms of chronic prostatitis. The psychological methods used were RO, TAT, FAM and Beck's Depression Inventory. Q factor analysis of the patients was performed and yielded four factors representing four different personality pathologies, i.e. psychosomatic structure, alexithymic personality, borderline personality and narcissistic personality. The duration of the somatic symptoms correlated positively with the severity of the psychic symptoms. The etiology of the different pathologies expressed by the patients with chronic prost

Serum cortisol and neuroticism for post-traumatic stress disorder over 2 years in patients with physical injuries.

AIM: This study aimed to explore the relationships between serum cortisol levels, personality traits, and the development of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) over 2 years among individuals with physical injuries. METHODS: Participants were consecutively recruited from a trauma center and followed prospectively for 2 years. At baseline, serum cortisol levels were measured, and personality traits were categorized into five dimensions (Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism, and Openness), using the Big Five Inventory-10. The diagnosis of PTSD during follow-up (at 3, 6,

A review of the personality traits in post-concussion syndrome.

INTRODUCTION: Various manifestations ranging from physical symptoms to cognitive and emotional impairments could often be seen following head concussions that lead to mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI). These symptoms are commonly comprising the post-concussion syndrome (PCS) and their resolution could be influenced by multiple factors. Personality traits have been suggested as potential risk factors for the emergence and persistence of PCS. In this study, we aimed to investigate the possible predisposition to PCS given by certain personality traits. METHODS: Prospective cohort studies, obser

Childhood Maltreatment as Predictor of Pathological Personality Traits Using PSY-5 in an Adult Psychiatric Sample.

Extant literature indicates that childhood maltreatment is significantly associated with personality disorders. With the recent call for a more dimensional approach to understanding personality and pathological personality traits, the aim of the present study was to examine whether the experience of childhood maltreatment is associated with pathological personality traits as measured by the Personality Psychopathology Five (PSY-5). We analyzed data from 557 adult psychiatric patients with diverse psychiatric diagnoses, including mood disorders, schizophrenia spectrum disorders, and anxiety dis

[Clinical dynamics of the sthenic variant of developing schizoid (autistic) psychopathy].

Under observation there were 18 children and adolescents with the sthenic variant of schizoid (autism) psychopathy. A 2- to 6-year-long dynamic observation has enabled the author to trace some regularities of the formation of that psychopathy variant and to specify some peculiarities of the psychogenic reactions in the children and adolescents with that anomaly of the personality.

Description of the combined evidence-based, theory-based and person-based approaches used to develop a behavioural intervention package to support non-allergist healthcare workers to remove incorrect penicillin allergy records from medical and surgical adult inpatients in a UK hospital.

OBJECTIVES: To develop a behavioural intervention package to support non-allergist healthcare workers (HCWs) to remove incorrect penA records from medical and surgical adult inpatients. This paper describes the development of the penicillin allergy de-labelling (PADL) intervention and the implementation intervention that will support non-allergist-delivered PADL. DESIGN: We combined evidence-based, theory-based and person-based approaches. Qualitative research with healthcare professionals and patients explored barriers and enablers to implementation of the proposed PADL pathway. Key interven

Textures of Personality: The Role of Attachment Insecurities and Defense Mechanisms in Maladaptive Personality Functioning.

Attachment styles and defense mechanisms are widely recognized as central components in personality development. However, few empirical studies have examined their combined contribution to maladaptive personality traits within the dimensional framework of the DSM-5 Alternative Model for Personality Disorders (AMPD). This study investigated the extent to which adult attachment styles and defense mechanisms predict the five AMPD maladaptive personality domains: negative affectivity, detachment, antagonism, disinhibition, and psychoticism. Data were collected from a community sample of 400 adults…

Personality Disorders Revisited: A Newly Proposed Mental Illness.

Personality disorders such as dependent personality disorder (DPD), among others, have shown limited academic development in terms of a more in-depth understanding or subtypes that may exist as a mental illness or associated condition. DPD was first published as a distinct personality disorder in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Mental Disorders, 3rd edition (DSM III) psychiatry manual in 1980. Since its revision in the DSM IIIR in 1987, no significant advancements have been proposed to date. This case study reported a patient with suicidal ideation and offered a new type of DPD to ad

A Tri-Directional Examination of Parental Personality, Parenting Behaviors, and Contextual Factors in Influencing Adolescent Behavioral Outcomes.

Links between parental personality, parenting, and adolescent behavior have been well established. However, extant research is limited by the sole focus on parental Big Five personality, and not taking home and family context into account. These gaps were addressed in two studies. In study 1, context, parental personality, and their interactions were examined as predictors of parenting in separate mother and father models (parents only). In study 2, context, parental personality, and parenting were examined as predictors of adolescent behavioral outcomes (parent-adolescent dyads). Parents (N =

Evaluation of personality traits in panic disorder using Swedish universities Scales of Personality.

Personality factors may interact with development and expressions of panic disorder (PD). This study sought to identify differences in personality traits between patients with PD and healthy individuals and explore the relationships between personality domains and various demographic and clinical variables of PD. Personality traits were evaluated in 193 patients and 314 matched healthy subjects using the Swedish universities Scales of Personality (SSP). All SSP traits, except for detachment and physical trait aggression, were significantly deviated in PD group, as compared to healthy subjects.

[Developmental features of the children of schizophrenic parents].

The author assessed the traits of the mental development of children from schizophrenic patients. A prevalence of schizoid types of personality was seen. The personality was also being analyzed from the point of view of age traits in asthenic, sthenic and mixed variants of the schizoid type. An analysis of a group of ill children (96) with a schizophrenic hereditary loading gave grounds to assume that the differences in the premorbid development of the children correlate with the differences of the initial stage and the type of development of schizophrenia.

The Neural Basis of Personality Styles Effect on Depression: Brain Structure and Multivariate Pattern Study.

Advancements in functional MRI have linked neurostructural and functional architecture to personality traits, but few studies focus on personality styles. This study examines 99 patients with moderate to severe depression and 97 matched controls, categorised into four personality styles using the Eysenck personality questionnaire. The study aims to identify behavioural and neurological differences between depressed and control groups. An SVM algorithm was used to differentiate between these groups within the same personality styles. Results indicated that the depression group exhibited lower g

Addition of rapamycin and hydroxychloroquine to metronomic chemotherapy as a second line treatment results in high salvage rates for refractory metastatic solid tumors: a pilot safety and effectiveness analysis in a small patient cohort.

BACKGROUND: Psychosocial maturity is one of the key factors for understanding the course of criminal offences in juveniles and young adults. Until recently, forensic-psychiatric assessments to diagnose a severe disorder of personality development remained mostly unguided because validated instruments were not available. A new tool, the Young Adult Personality Development (YAPD) instrument, was introduced in 2021 and consists of three dimensions related to psychosocial maturity: YAPD environmental, YAPD pathology and YAPD developmental tasks failure. The current study tested the reliability (in…

Behavioral Signatures in a Situational Judgment Test for Criterion B Borderline Pathology: Predicting Criterion A Personality Functioning Beyond Traditional Questionnaire-Based Trait Assessment.

The DSM-5 Alternative Model of Personality Disorders assesses personality pathology along two criteria: Criterion A (personality functioning) and criterion B (maladaptive traits). While Criterion B assessment yields valuable insight into overall trait levels, it fails to capture how traits manifest across situations, which is particularly relevant for traits marked by high within-person variability, such as those seen in borderline personality pathology (BPP). To capture this within-person variability, the current study leverages Criterion Profile Analysis to investigate whether behavioral sig

Suicidal Tendency Among Adolescents With Adjustment Disorder.

BACKGROUND: Adolescents with adjustment disorder (AD) are at risk of presenting suicidal symptoms. Certain personality traits are linked to suicidal tendencies. There is a lack of information about the link between suicide and personality patterns in adolescents with AD. AIMS: To identify the personality characteristics that predispose to or prevent the development of suicidal ideation and behavior among adolescents with AD. METHOD: We recruited 108 adolescents with AD at a public mental health center near Barcelona (Spain). They were administered the Inventario de Riesgo Suicida para Adoles

Personality disorders.

Personality disorders are characterized by inflexible maladaptive traits that cause significant impairment in social and occupational functioning. Categories of personality disorders include paranoid, schizoid, histrionic, narcissistic, antisocial, borderline, avoidant, dependent, compulsive and passive-aggressive. The inflexible nature of these disorders and the lack of an alternative behavioral repertoire result in an inability to cope with environmental pressure. The goal of management is the development of healthier behavioral responses to stress. A personality change in older patients sug

Personality disorders in patients with panic disorder: association with childhood anxiety disorders, early trauma, comorbidity, and chronicity.

The rates of comorbid personality disorders in patients with panic disorder are reported to be elevated, have an adverse impact on the response to treatment, and increase the likelihood of relapse on treatment discontinuation. We examined the rates of personality disorders in panic disorder patients in a longitudinal, naturalistic study of panic disorder. Of 100 panic disorder patients studied, 42 met criteria for at least one personality disorder as determined by the Personality Disorder Questionnaire-Revised (PDQ-R). The presence of a personality disorder as determined by the PDQ-R was assoc
