Two-dimensional transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) exhibit remarkable thermal anisotropy due to their strong intralayer covalent bonding and weak interlayer van der Waals (vdW) interactions. Accurately modeling their thermal transport properties remains a significant challenge, as density functional theory (DFT) is computationally prohibitive for large systems while traditional classical force fields often fail to capture the long-range, registry-dependent vdW energetics critical for twisted interfaces. To address this, we employ a modular hybrid computational framework that integrates a

Topological quasiparticle excited states, magnetotransport, spin Hall effect, and superconductivity in solid-state materials have consistently been the four key issues in condensed matter physics. In this work, we theoretically demonstrate that monolayer In 2 O ${\rm In}_2{\rm O}$ provides an effective platform to explore these intertwined phenomena through its unique electronic topology. First-principles calculations reveal a type-II Dirac point near the Fermi level of the electronic band structure of monolayer In 2 O ${\rm In}_2{\rm O}$ , which is split into two pairs of Weyl points wi

Interlayer coupling governs the band structure and ultrafast carrier dynamics of van der Waals (vdW) materials, serving as a fundamental degree of freedom for manipulating optoelectronic performance. However, energy-resolved characterization of its impacts on photoexcited carriers remains scarce. In this work, we use femtosecond transient reflectance spectroscopy with near-infrared supercontinuum probing to explore energy-resolved carrier relaxation in a Bernal-stacked epitaxial graphite film on nickel. An abrupt variation of carrier cooling rate is observed at a probe energy of 1.21 eV, which

Two-dimensional thermoelectric materials have gained considerable attention because of their potential for high energy-conversion efficiency and miniaturized device applications. In this work, the structural, thermal stability, and thermoelectric properties of a novel pentagonal Pd2As4monolayer are investigated using density functional theory. The optimized structure is found to be thermally stable and exhibits a direct band gap of 0.80 eV located in the infrared region. The lattice thermal conductivity (κl) is calculated to be 2.26 W/mK at room temperature 300 K and decreases to 1.0 W/mK at h

This paper explores the crystal structure, formation energies, thermodynamic properties, elastic constants, electronic structure, and H2 storage properties of XBH3 (X = Mg, Ca; B=Ga, In) hydrides utilizing the density functional theory (DFT) as modeled in the WIEN2k program. To determine the stability and practicability of these materials in hydrogen storage applications, thermodynamic and mechanical parameters were determined. Calculations of the electronic structure show that band gaps of MgGaH3, CaGaH3, MgInH3, and CaInH3 are 1.46 eV, 1.63 eV, 0.89 eV, and 1.35 eV, respectively. Gravimetric

Lead-free halide double perovskites have emerged as promising alternatives to Pb-based materials for solar energy applications. In this work, structural, optoelectronic, and thermodynamic properties of Ae2LiSbI6 (Ae = Rb, Cs) double perovskites are studied using first-principles calculations and device-level simulations. Both compounds crystallize in a stable cubic phase, supported by favorable tolerance factors and negative formation energies, ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) and phonon dispersion analysis. Their indirect band gaps, 1.694 eV for Rb2LiSbI6 and 1.733 eV for Cs2LiSbI6 (GGA-PB

Predicting the fatigue life of two-dimensional materials is crucial for improving the reliability of flexible electronic devices. However, it remains unclear how excitation frequency regulates energy dissipation during the fatigue process. This study examines the fatigue behavior of black phosphorus with triangular, rectangular and circular notches under sinusoidal cyclic loading, investigating the influence of temperature, excitation amplitude, and frequency on fatigue life. Interestingly, the fatigue life of the three types of notches does not decrease monotonically with increasing excitatio

Nanoribbons, nanometre-wide strips of a two-dimensional material, are a unique system in condensed matter. They combine the exotic electronic structures of low-dimensional materials with an enhanced number of exposed edges, where phenomena including ultralong spin coherence times1,2, quantum confinement3 and topologically protected states4,5 can emerge. An exciting prospect for this material concept is the potential for both a tunable semiconducting electronic structure and magnetism along the nanoribbon edge, a key property for spin-based electronics such as (low-energy) non-volatile transist

We report about the effect of nitrogen and carbon concentration on the superconducting transition temperature TC of (NbMoTaW)1CxNy carbonitride films deposited using reactive DC magnetron sputtering. By measuring the temperature dependence of electrical resistance and magnetization of these carbonitrides, with 0.20 ≤ x ≤ 1.17 and 0 ≤ y ≤ 0.73, we observe a TC enhancement that occurs especially at high (x ≥ 0.76) carbon concentrations, with the largest TC = 9.6 K observed in the over-doped fcc crystal structure with x = 1.17 and y = 0.41. The reason why the largest TC appears at high C concentr

In recent years, solution processes have gained considerable traction as a cost-effective and scalable method to produce high-performance thermoelectric materials. The process entails a series of critical steps: synthesis, purification, thermal treatments, and consolidation, each playing a pivotal role in determining performance, stability, and reproducibility. We have noticed a need for more comprehensive details for each of the described steps in most published works. Recognizing the significance of detailed synthetic protocols, we describe here the approach used to synthesize and characteri

The anisotropic transport properties of gallium telluride (GaTe) have been reported by several experiments, giving rise to many debates recently. The anisotropic electronic band structure of GaTe shows the extreme difference between the flat band and tilted band in two distinct directions,Γ¯-X¯andΓ¯-Y¯, and which we called as the mixed flat-tilted band (MFTB). Focusing on such two directions, the relaxation of photo-generated carriers has been studied using the non-adiabatic molecular dynamics (NAMD) method to investigate the anisotropic behavior of ultrafast dynamics. The results show that th

Strange metal behavior refers to a linear temperature dependence of the electrical resistivity that is not due to electron-phonon scattering. It is seen in numerous strongly correlated electron systems, from the heavy fermion compounds, via transition metal oxides and iron pnictides, to magic angle twisted bi-layer graphene, frequently in connection with unconventional or "high temperature" superconductivity. To achieve a unified understanding of these phenomena across the different materials classes is a central open problem in condensed matter physics. Tests whether the linear-in-temperature

A comprehensive description of crystal and electronic structures, structural transformations, and pressure-dependent superconducting temperature (Tc) of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) compressed from low pressure is presented through the analysis of the results from metadynamics simulations. It is shown that local minimum metastable crystal structures obtained are dependent on the choice of pressure-temperature thermodynamic paths. The origin of the recently proposed 'high-Tc' superconducting phase with a modulated structure and a diffraction pattern reproducing two independent experiments was the low

Precise detection of low-dose X- and γ-radiations remains a challenge and is particularly important for studying biological effects under low-dose ionizing radiation, safety control in medical radiation treatment, survey of environmental radiation background, and monitoring cosmic radiations. We report here a photoluminescent uranium organic framework, whose photoluminescence intensity can be accurately correlated with the exposure dose of X- or γ-radiations. This allows for precise and instant detection of ionizing radiations down to the level of 10-4 Gy, representing a significant improveme

CdSnO(3) ilmenite and perovskite crystals were investigated using both the local density and generalized gradient approximations, LDA and GGA, respectively, of the density functional theory (DFT). The electronic band structures, densities of states, dielectric functions, optical absorption and reflectivity spectra related to electronic transitions were obtained, as well as the infrared absorption spectra after computing the vibrational modes of the crystals at q = 0. Dielectric optical permittivities and polarizabilities at ω = 0 and ∞ were also calculated. The results show that GGA-optimized

Surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy (SEIRA) of methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol, and 2-propanol in thin films on planar silver halide (AgX) fibers under slow N(2) flow using 1 sec scans reveals structure in absorbance-time plots. The absorption intensities show extra enhancements (3x) in the absorbance (O--H stretch) ascribed to oligomers present at the AgX surface (molecule enhanced, thus MOSEIRA). This is above those due to amplification (40x, 20 reflections) and enhancement (30x, image dipoles or surface phonon polaritons). In the case of ethanol an excellent initial pentamer spe

In this work, first-principles calculations based on density functional theory (DFT) and ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) are performed to systematically examine the structural stability, electronic properties, and strain responses of two-dimensional Au, Ag, and Cu few-layers. The calculated binding energies, phonon dispersion spectra, and elastic constants consistently demonstrate that all investigated configurations possess robust thermodynamic, dynamic, and mechanical stability. The electronic structures exhibit distinct layer- and stacking-dependent characteristics governed by interlaye

Core-asymmetric acceptors, which combine the advantages of electron-deficient cores and molecular asymmetry, represent a promising yet underexplored design strategy for organic solar cells. Herein, we designed and synthesized two asymmetric 1,2,4-benzotriazine-based acceptors, H-Th and H-Th-FN, both featuring a chlorinated thiophene unit side-grafted onto the central core. The electron-rich thiophene modulates the strong electron deficiency of the triazine core, while effective orbital overlap enhances molecular rigidity. Notably, H-Th-FN incorporates a fluoronaphthalene terminal to achieve du

In the field of molecular polaritonics, stronger coupling between vibrational modes and cavity systems is highly sought after. The coupling strength in these systems scales inversely with cavity mode volumes (Vm), yet traditional Fabry-Perot cavities are diffraction-limited. To overcome this limitation, we employ hyperbolic hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) to enable subdiffractional Fabry-Perot-like modes. In this work, we use scattering-type scanning near-field optical microscopy (s-SNOM) to directly image polariton propagation and quantify vibrational strong coupling to weak C-H bending modes i

Twisted layers of α-MoO3 support phonon polaritons whose propagation can be adjusted by the twist angle, a concept known as 'twistoptics'. Although emergent in the field of nano-optics, the application to heat transfer has lagged behind, particularly regarding near-field radiative heat transfer (NFRHT), which is important for thermal management in nanodevices and remains insufficiently explored. Here, we report the role of twistoptics in NFRHT, demonstrating that the heat flux between two separated twisted α-MoO3 bilayers can be monotonically increased by simply increasing the twist angle.
