Ten patients underwent 50-70 percent plasma exchanges using the continuous flow cell separator. The exchange material consisted of Plasma Protein Fraction (PPF) and Lactated Ringer's Solution (LRS) instead of fresh frozen, modified or lyophilized plasma. No bleeding or other complications were encountered. The coagulation factor activity after exchange was above that required for hemostasis. The procedure is safe, expeditious and efficient.

IMPORTANCE: Phosphorylated tau-217 (p-tau217) is now an established plasma biomarker for assessing amyloid-β pathology in individuals at risk of Alzheimer disease. However, its performance in identifying advanced neocortical neurofibrillary tangle burden remains suboptimal. Precise assessment of tau pathology is increasingly critical for the rational implementation of anti-amyloid therapies and developing anti-tau interventions. This report describes periarticular plasma cell tumors with abundant amyloid in 11 cats. The tarsus was the most commonly affected joint (10/11), and the masses were often circumferential around the tarsal joint, involving the dermis and subcutis. The 2 cases in which synovium was examined had neoplastic cells expanding the synovium. Three of the 5 cases staged radiographically had bony lysis of the affected joint.
