Common single nucleotide polymorphisms in the FNDC5 gene and serum irisin levels in acute myocardial infarction.

OBJECTIVE: Acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is the most common type of coronary artery disease. The irisin hormone encoded by the fibronectin type III domain-containing protein-5 (FNDC5) gene is synthesized in muscle, heart, and fat tissues. The present study aims to investigate serum irisin concentrations and FNDC5 genetic variants in patients with AMI through comparison with controls. METHODS: This study included 225 patients with AMI and 225 healthy subjects. Blood samples were obtained from patients during the first 1-24 hours after AMI. Serum irisin concentration was measured with enzym

Single-nucleotide Fcγ receptor polymorphisms do not impact obinutuzumab/rituximab outcome in patients with lymphoma.

Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have been shown to influence Fcγ receptor (FcγR) affinity and activity, but their effect on treatment response is unclear. We assessed their importance in the efficacy of obinutuzumab or rituximab combined with chemotherapy in untreated advanced follicular lymphoma (FL) and diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) in the GALLIUM (www.clinicaltrials.gov #NCT01332968) and GOYA (#NCT01287741) trials, respectively. Genomic DNA was extracted from patients enrolled in GALLIUM (n = 1202) and GOYA (n = 1418). Key germline SNPs, FCGR2A R131H (rs1801274), FCGR3A F158V

Single-nucleotide polymorphisms in a vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strain based on whole-genome sequencing.

The emergence of vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (VRSA) threatens global health. The mechanism of vancomycin resistance of VRSA without vanA gene acquisition was not fully elucidated. Therefore, we aimed to determine the mechanism of vancomycin resistance of VRSA besides that by vanA gene acquisition. In this study, we obtained vancomycin-resistant strains (V036-V64; MIC = 64 µg /ml) from susceptible strain (V036; MIC = 0.5 µg /ml) by exposure of vancomycin in vitro and examined the phenotypic characteristics and antibiotic susceptibility profiles of the resistant strain (V036-V64).

Computational analysis of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in PPAR gamma associated with obesity, diabetes and cancer.

The single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) are the common genetic variations in human genomes and act as markers for molecular susceptibility of complex traits and diseases in humans. Amino acid variations in the non-synonymous SNPs (nsSNPs) in coding and non-coding regions affect the function/structure of the proteins. The Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPARγ or PPARG) is a nuclear receptor that plays a significant role in lipid metabolism and insulin production and is associated with diabetes, obesity, and cancer. In this study, the PPARG sequence was retrieved from the NC

Associations between Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms and Total Energy, Carbohydrate, and Fat Intakes: A Systematic Review.

A better understanding of the genetic underpinning of total energy, carbohydrate, and fat intake is a prerequisite to develop personalized dietary recommendations. For this purpose, we systematically reviewed associations between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and total energy, carbohydrate, and fat intakes. Four databases were searched for studies that assessed an association between SNPs and total energy, carbohydrate, and fat intakes. Screening of articles and data extraction was performed independently by 2 reviewers. Articles in English or German language, published between 1994 a

A global perspective on hepatitis B-related single nucleotide polymorphisms and evolution during human migration.

Genome-wide association studies have indicated that human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-DP and HLA-DQ play roles in persistent hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in Asia. To understand the evolution of HBV-related single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and to correlate these SNPs with chronic HBV infection among different populations, we conducted a global perspective study on hepatitis-related SNPs. We selected 12 HBV-related SNPs on the HLA locus and two HBV and three hepatitis C virus immune-related SNPs for analysis. Five nasopharyngeal carcinoma-related SNPs served as controls. All SNP data worl
