Uncemented three-dimensional-printed prosthetic replacement for giant cell tumor of distal radius: a new design of prosthesis and surgical techniques.

INTRODUCTION: Currently, it is challenging to treat giant cell tumor (GCT) of distal radius. For Campanacci grade III or recurrent GCTs, en bloc resection has been accepted as a better treatment option. Although numerous methods are available for reconstruction, all of them have some limitations in joint function and complications. In this study, our aims were to treat the GCT of distal radius with uncemented three-dimensional (3D)-printed prosthesis and to present and evaluate the surgical techniques and short-term outcomes. METHODS: Between September 2015 and March 2017, 11 patients with di

A GPU-accelerated brachytherapy planning framework for template-based applications: Evaluated on three-dimensional printed individual templates in cervical cancer.

PURPOSE: 3D-printed individualized templates improve high-dose-rate (HDR) brachytherapy, but planning remains limited by slow optimization and geometry-driven needle design. This study proposes a GPU-accelerated framework with a fast dose engine and adaptive inverse optimizer to enhance efficiency and plan quality in template-based workflows. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The PyTorch-implemented framework was validated against a commercial TPS via single-source tests and full-plan recalculations. Retrospective re-optimization of 13 cervical cancer patients treated with 3D-printed templates evaluated

Evaluating the relationship between objective and subjective image quality in computed tomography using detectability index and three-dimensional-printed phantoms.

Achieving optimal image quality in computed tomography (CT) is essential for accurate diagnosis. This study explores the relationship between objective and subjective image quality, using the detectability index ($d^{\prime}$) as a quantitative performance metric. A 3D-printed anthropomorphic abdominal phantom was used to assess how variations in tube voltage, current, slice thickness, and reconstruction kernel affect image quality. Signal-to-noise ratio, contrast-to-noise ratio, and edge sharpness were evaluated alongside radiologist assessments. A strong correlation between $d^{\prime}$ and

Three-dimensionally-printed biphasic PCL/β-TCP scaffold with spatially confined GelMA/CS hydrogel for coordinated osteochondral regeneration.

Osteochondral defects remain difficult to repair because articular cartilage and subchondral bone differ in structure and regenerative capacity, and stable interface integration is challenging. Here, we developed a structurally continuous yet functionally stratified biphasic scaffold via dual-temperature 3D printing, consisting of a poly(ε-caprolac tone)/β-tricalcium phosphate (PCL/β-TCP) bone-mimetic phase with larger macropores and a pure PCL cartilage-guiding phase with smaller pores. A GelMA/chondroitin sulfate (GelMA/CS) hydrogel was selectively infiltrated into the upper region by immers

Effect of Gamma Ray Sterilization on the Properties of Three-Dimensional Printed Chitosan-Bioactive Glass Scaffolds for Peripheral Nerve Tissue Engineering.

Sterilization is a prerequisite for the clinical use of medical devices. Gamma irradiation is a high-penetrating, low-temperature process used in biomaterials. However, it can alter materials' properties, potentially changing their functional performance. In this study, three dimensional (3D)-printed chitosan-bioactive glass scaffolds were processed with clinically relevant gamma irradiation doses (15 and 25 kGy) and evaluated for nerve tissue engineering. Physicochemical characterizations were performed using FTIR, DSC, SEM, mechanical testing, swelling, and degradation assays. Biological per

Engineered Hierarchical Porosity in Three-Dimensional-Printed Hydrogel Scaffolds Enhances Mesenchymal Stem Cell Therapy for Chronic Diabetic Wounds.

Unhealing chronic diabetic wounds is a major clinical challenge, as it is rooted in the complex pathological microenvironment, including neuropathy, angiopathy, and chronic inflammation. Traditional treatment methods cannot fundamentally solve these problems. Inspired by outdoor rock climbing, this study developed a multifunctional bioactive hydrogel scaffold with hierarchical pore sizes (CSP hydrogel) to remodel the wound microenvironment and boost regenerative repair. Fabricated through 3D printing and photopolymerization from methacryloylated chitosan (CSMA) and methacryloylated silk fibroi

A three-dimensional printed laryngoscope holding helmet for continuous laryngoscopy during exercise in a pediatric exercise induced laryngeal obstruction clinic.

INTRODUCTION: Continuous laryngoscopy during exercise (CLE) is increasingly used to diagnose exercise induced laryngeal obstruction (EILO). One barrier to widespread implementation is reliable fixation of the flexible laryngoscope during exercise. This study describes the development and validation of an adjustable, low-cost helmet constructed from commercially available and 3D-printed components to facilitate CLE in a pediatric EILO clinic. MATERIALS AND METHODS: An adjustable CLE helmet was developed using 3D-printed and commercially available materials. Eight otolaryngologists at a tertiar

Evaluation of Patient-Specific Three-Dimensional Printed Templates for Framework Carving in Autologous Microtia Reconstruction: A Prospective Randomized Comparative Study.

Framework carving is the most difficult step in autologous microtia reconstruction. Conventional two-dimensional (2D) templates provide only a flat outline and do not reflect the depth and three-dimensional shape of the auricle, whereas a patient-specific three-dimensional (3D) printed template may improve intraoperative visualization of the ear during carving. This prospective randomized comparative study was conducted on 20 patients with unilateral microtia who were randomly allocated into 2 equal groups. Group A (n=10) underwent reconstruction using patient-specific 3D-printed auricular tem

Apatite Nuclei Treatment of Three-Dimensional Printed Porous Carbon-Reinforced Polyetheretherketone: A Case Study of Rat Femoral Segmental Defect.

Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) is a promising orthopedic implant material with an elastic modulus similar to that of human bone, offering potential advantages over titanium implants. However, PEEK is inherently biologically inert and hydrophobic, limiting its bone-bonding capacity. This study investigated the efficacy of apatite nuclei (AN) treatment in enhancing the bioactivity of 3D-printed porous carbon-reinforced PEEK (CR-PEEK) implants. Scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy analysis confirmed uniform AN treatment penetration throughout the porous stru

Enhancing the Versatility and Performance of Soft Robotic Grippers, Hands, and Crawling Robots Through Three-Dimensional-Printed Multifunctional Buckling Joints.

Soft robotic grippers and hands offer adaptability, lightweight construction, and enhanced safety in human-robot interactions. In this study, we introduce vacuum-actuated soft robotic finger joints to overcome their limitations in stiffness, response, and load-carrying capability. Our design-optimized through parametric design and three-dimensional (3D) printing-achieves high stiffness using vacuum pressure and a buckling mechanism for large bending angles (>90°) and rapid response times (0.24 s). We develop a theoretical model and nonlinear finite-element simulations to validate the experimen

Three-Dimensional Printed Plate Template Versus Hemipelvis Model in Patient-Specific Plate Preparation for Posterior Wall Acetabular Fractures.

OBJECTIVE: The application of three-dimensional (3D) printing technology in the management of posterior wall acetabular fractures can greatly reduce surgical invasiveness and operative time and simplify the procedure of reconstruction plate contouring, but the cost and time of patient-specific plate preparation on the basis of traditional 3D-printed pelvis model should not be neglected. We described a new method for patient-specific plate preparation by using 3D-printed plate template. The study aimed to assess the effectiveness and feasibility of the 3D-printed plate template in patient-speci

Three-dimensional-printed patient-specific instrumentation is an accurate tool to reproduce femoral bone tunnels in multiple-ligament knee injuries.

PURPOSE: Multiple-ligament knee reconstruction techniques often involve the creation of several bone tunnels for various reconstruction grafts. A critical step in this procedure is to avoid short tunnels or convergences among them. Currently, no specific template guide to reproduce these angulations has been reported in the literature, and the success of the technique still depends on the experience of the surgeon. The aim of this study is to analyze the accuracy and reliability of 3D-printed patient-specific instrumentation (PSI) for lateral and medial anatomical knee reconstructions. METHOD

A novel three-dimensional printed device with conductive elements for electromembrane extraction combined with high-performance liquid chromatography and ultraviolet detector.

This study is focused on proposing a new design and setup for electromembrane extraction. A new cap was designed and conductive vials of different shapes were fabricated using three-dimensional printing. The new cap holds three fibers to enhance electromembrane extraction recovery. Conductive vials can simultaneously perform as electrodes therefore, there is no need to include an electrode in sample solutions. Phenobarbital and phenytoin were used as model compounds to assess the setup performance. Under optimal conditions, these analytes were extracted from the sample solution at pH = 9 to th
