Rats were exposed to a diet containing 100 ppm cadmium chloride or a control diet. At 52 days of exposure, rats were trained to discriminate between saline and 5 mg/kg cocaine injections. After acquisition training, successive substitution tests were conducted using cocaine, the indirect dopamine agonist d-amphetamine, the mixed D1-D2 agonist apomorphine, SKF 38393 and SKF 82958 (both preferential D1 agonists), quinpirole (a preferential D2 agonist), GBR 12909 (a dopamine reuptake inhibitor), procaine (a local anesthetic), and morphine (an opiate). At concentrations ranging from 8.5 to 30 microM, octylonium bromide (OB) did not affect sodium channel availability measured as maximal rate of depolarization (Vmax) of cardiac action potential. Two patients with Prinzmetal's variant angina had recurrent episodes of resting chest pain, ST segment elevation, QRS widening, ventricular tachycardia, and ventricular fibrillation. These eqisodes were unresponsive to medical therapy including lidocaine, procaine amide, and quinidine sulfate. Anthrax is a rare infection that is transmitted to humans from animals or animal products. In its cutaneous form it may produce lesions of the eyelids which can lead to cicatricization and ectropion. Exophthalmos, optic atrophy and panophthalmitis have also been reported. A case of anthrax affecting the eyelid of a patient seen by the author in Kabul, Afghanistan, is presented.
