OBJECTIVES: Bonded restorations using self-etch (SE) systems exhibit a limited lifespan due to their susceptibility to hydrolytic, enzymatic or fatigue degradation and poor performance on enamel. This study was conducted to develop and assess the performance of a two-step SE system using a functional monomer bis[2-(methacryloyloxy)ethyl]phosphate (BMEP) and demonstrate a strategy to enhance stability of bonded resin composite restorations to both enamel and dentine.
METHODS: A two-step SE system was formulated with a primer containing BMEP, with an adhesive with or without BMEP, and compared

Standards presently used to evaluate the biologic compatibility of dental restorative materials are examined and their inherent shortcomings are noted in this report. Studies citing the alleged effects of dental materials on the pulp are reviewed and compared to new theories, which suggest that the principal cause of pulpal inflammation is bacterial infiltration. Thus, studies that are not able to exclude bacteria as a variable cannot be used to draw conclusions as to the cause of inflammatory changes. This paper presents a proposal to alter the current biocompatibility testing methods to meth

INTRODUCTION: Molar-incisor hypomineralization (MIH) is a qualitative defect of the enamel structure affecting at least one of the first permanent molars. Treatment will depend on its severity, the stage of dental development and the cooperation of the young patient. The aim of this study is to compare the different materials used for direct restorations on teeth with MIH.
METHODS: A systematic review was conducted on May 2024 and is described according to the PRISMA criteria. It was performed on three databases (PubMed, Science Direct, and Google Scholar). Twenty-nine articles were included.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: The tooth in the esthetic zone can be restored using various direct and indirect restorative materials. While their appearance may be acceptable on the day of delivery, their optical characteristics may change over time, resulting in patient dissatisfaction and the need for replacement. A lack of clinical follow-up monitoring of the color stability of these restorations necessitates the development of methods that may offer insight into raising awareness of this issue.
OBJECTIVE: To assess the color stability of direct and indirect restorative materials following simulta

Glass ionomer cement (GIC) is a restorative dental material capable of promoting mineral deposition on surrounding tooth substrates. However, it is unclear as to whether demineralization and remineralization due to an oral pH change of the tooth affect the dissolution pattern of tooth crown and root differently. It also remains to be elucidated how GIC alters superficial chemical compositions of tooth crown structurally known as enamel, in relation to the root. In this study, we investigated an effect of pH challenge on chemical compositional change of tooth crown and root, as well as the cont
