We sent 424 retina specialists questionnaires on fluorescein angiography performed on pregnant women; 399 specialists responded. Of these, 309 (77%) had never performed fluorescein angiography on a pregnant woman. Ninety specialists (23%) had performed at least one fluorescein angiogram on a pregnant woman; detailed information was obtained on 105 patients. Authors of previous reports that included fluorescein angiography during pregnancy provided information about an additional 11 patients. This study intends to make the transsphincteric approach to the rectum more well known, mainly because of the increasing number of small carcinomas and adenomas being detected by endoscopy following screening for occult blood. Thirty patients had rectotomy from 1983 to 1987. Curative surgery was performed on 15, whereas adenomas were excised in 11. Thaumatin, the sweet proteinaceous extract of the arils of Thaumatococcus daniellii (Benth.) has been studied for its subacute toxicity in rats and dogs and its ability to produce anaphylactic antibodies following oral administration to rats and normal human subjects. Mandibular lingual surgery is commonly used in periodontal practice. There are inherent risks in such surgery which are illustrated by a case report described here. This was a case in which an emergency tracheotomy was needed after a minor procedure which involved lingual tissues. The potential problems of any form of lingual surgery are discussed. Various other surgical procedures in this region are examined in order to establish some surgical principles which may be of use to periodontists.
