Myeloid sarcoma (MS) of the central nervous system (CNS) is a rare presentation of leukemic mass infiltration outside of the bone marrow. It may involve the subperiosteum and dura mater and, on rare occasions, can also invade the brain parenchyma. The disease is most commonly seen in children or young adults; however, it has been described in multiple age groups. MS can be seen in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), chronic myeloid leukemia and other myeloproliferative disorders. This entity has the potential to be underdiagnosed if the MS appearance precedes the first diagnosis of leu

BACKGROUND: Myeloid sarcoma is a rare extramedullary tumor most commonly associated with acute myeloid leukemia. Cardiac involvement is rare and can pose a diagnostic challenge.
CASE SUMMARY: A 40-year-old male with a history of allogenic bone marrow transplant for acute myeloid leukemia presented with angina. Computed tomography angiography raised concern for acute aortic syndrome. Multimodality imaging demonstrated an infiltrative mass encasing the ascending aorta with atrial extension. Conventional biopsy approaches were unsafe due to the lack of a suitable percutaneous window and hemodyna

Myeloid sarcoma is an extramedullary mass lesion composed of myeloid blasts that disrupt tissue architecture. Myeloid sarcoma in the prostate is exceptionally rare, with fewer than 30 patients reported. Among these, 8 have been observed without a prior diagnosis of a hematolymphoid neoplasm. To date, concurrent prostatic myeloid sarcoma and adenocarcinoma have not been documented in the English-language literature. We present the first 2 myeloid sarcomas in the prostate occurring concurrently with high-grade prostatic adenocarcinoma, identified on core needle biopsy and radical prostatectomy i

Leukemia circulates in the bloodstream and induces various symptoms and complications. Occasionally, these cells accumulate in non-marrow tissues, forming a tumor-like myeloid sarcoma (MS). When the blast-stage leukemia cells invade the brain parenchyma, intracranial MS occurs, leading to a challenging prognosis owing to the limited penetration of cytostatic drugs into the brain and the development of drug resistance. The scarcity of tissue samples from MS makes understanding the phenotypic changes occurring in leukemia cells within the brain environment challenging, thereby hindering developm

The classification of clonal plasmacytoid dendritic cell (pDC) proliferation associated with myeloid neoplasms remains a topic of ongoing debate. Although the fifth edition of the World Health Organization classification classifies clonal pDC proliferation into two categories, it is unclear whether this classification adequately captures the complexities of clonal pDC pathogenesis. We present a clinical case featuring myeloid sarcoma with pDC-like cells in cervical lymph nodes and bone marrow (BM). Analysis of biopsy specimens and BM aspirate revealed two distinct cellular populations expressi

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a proliferation of immature myeloid cells that occurs extramedullary, often accompanying acute myeloid leukemia (AML). It typically presents in areas such as lymph nodes, skin, and the head and neck regions. The emergence of MS within the temporal bone is rare, and it can manifest through nonspecific symptoms. In this paper, we reported a case of A 47-year-old female presented with right-sided otalgia, otorrhea, tinnitus, reduced hearing, and ear fullness, and developed facial asymmetry. She was initially diagnosed with necrotizing otitis externa and was treated accordi

A 28-year-old woman presented with a 2-month history of swelling and pain in the chest wall. An irregular soft tissue mass in the chest wall and mediastinum was showed on chest CT. 18F-FDG PET/CT revealed obvious FDG uptake in the mass. Subsequently, the patient was participated in a 68Ga-DOTA-FAPI-04 PET/CT tumor clinical trial. 68Ga-DOTA-FAPI-04 PET/CT also showed elevated tracer uptake in the mass. Biopsy of the mass confirmed a diagnosis of myeloid sarcoma.

BACKGROUND: A high incidence of malignant tumors, such as post-transplant lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLD), Kaposi sarcoma, and renal cancer is common in solid organ and bone marrow transplant recipients. However, myeloid sarcoma (MS) after renal transplantation has rarely been reported and the diagnosis is challenging due to its low incidence.
CASE PRESENTATION: Here, we report a rare case of a 49-year-old man who developed myeloid sarcoma (MS) in the transplanted kidney two years after renal transplantation. Next-generation sequencing (NGS) showed mutations of KRAS and DNMT3A genes in t

Isolated myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare malignancy in which myeloid blast forms tumors at various locations while the bone marrow (BM) remains cytomorphologically free from disease. We analyzed isolated MS from four patients and their BMs at initial diagnosis and follow-up, using a custom next-generation sequencing (NGS) panel. We observed possible clonal evolution and a clonal hematopoiesis of indeterminate potential (CHIP)-like finding in the BM of one of three cases with detectable mutations. Clinical presentation of one patient suggested extramedullary confined homing of blasts to distal s

Soft tissue leukaemic masses are a well-described clinical feature of myeloid haematological neoplasms. In paediatric acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL), such soft tissue leukaemic sarcomas have not been reported as a presenting feature. Here we report a 3-year-old boy with ALL who presented to us with isolated soft tissue swellings for a duration of 9 months. The significance of these 'non-myeloid' sarcomas in paediatric ALL is uncertain.

UNLABELLED: Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare myeloid malignancy. It can arise before, concurrent with, or following different malignant hematological diseases, most commonly acute myeloid leukemia (AML), myelodysplastic syndrome, or myeloproliferative neoplasms. Here we describe a 30-year-old female with AML-M1 who presented to the hematology department with bilateral breast pain and tenderness. Available diagnostic measures including ultrasound of breast and magnetic resonance imaging were used to determine the nature of these breast lumps. MS was definitively diagnosed via biopsy and the patie

We describe a 36-month-old boy with acute monoblastic leukemia (AMoL M5a) and mixed-lineage leukemia (MLL)-AF9 rearrangement. At 18 months of age, he presented with swelling on the back of his hand that was considered to be an inflammatory change, but no hematological abnormalities were found. However, blasts with MLL-AF9 rearrangement were detected in biopsied tissue taken at the time and in peripheral blood samples taken 18 months later. These findings indicate that myeloid sarcoma with MLL-AF9 rearrangement may ultimately, though slowly, progress to AMoL.

A 22-year-old man was diagnosed with isolated mediastinal myeloid sarcoma which radiologically mimicked primary mediastinal lymphoma. Despite administration of standard remission induction chemotherapy with daunorubicin and cytarabine, and three cycles of intensive high-dose cytarabine-based consolidation, chemo-resistant hypermetabolic lesions were persistently detected in the highest mediastinum and in the supraclavicular area. However, complete remission and long-term survival were achieved by curative radiotherapy followed by unrelated allogeneic stem cell transplantation.

An 18-year-old male underwent an allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) for chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in the first late chronic phase. On day 132, he was readmitted to the hospital with nausea, vomiting and nodular lesions on endoscopy. A diagnosis of granulocytic sarcoma of the stomach was made. Bone marrow cytogenetic analysis for the Philadelphia chromosome and nested polymerase chain reaction for BCR-ABL1 were both negative. Immunosuppression was abruptly discontinued, and by day 180, all gastric lesions had completely disappeared. However, there were histologi

PURPOSE: This retrospective multicenter study assessed the outcome of 51 patients with myeloid sarcoma (MS) who underwent allogeneic hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation (alloHSCT).
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Most patients had MS presenting in conjunction with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) or after AML. Six patients had isolated MS. The median time between diagnosis and alloHSCT was 8 months (range, 2.8 to 67). Forty patients were in complete remission (CR) at time of alloHSCT.
RESULTS: With a median follow-up of 33 (range, 1 to 182) months, the Kaplan-Meier estimates of overall survival (OS) a

Myeloid sarcoma (MS) is a rare disease that presents as an extramedullary tumorous mass of immature myeloid precursors. The majority of MS are identified in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients and rarely present as a primary isolated MS without AML. In addition, inversion of chromosome 16 [inv(16)] and the CBFβ/MYH11 fusion gene are rarely associated with MS. The current study reports a female patient with an isolated duodenal MS, who developed AML-M4 associated with the CBFβ/MYH11 fusion gene and 48,XX,inv(16),+13,+22. Myeloid sarcoma is a rare extramedullary malignancy of immature myeloid cells that is most commonly associated with acute myeloid leukemia, while primary isolated spinal involvement without systemic disease is exceedingly uncommon and diagnostically challenging. We report a rare case of isolated lumbar myeloid sarcoma in a 39-year-old non-leukemic man who presented with an eight-month history of low back pain and radiculopathy, normal neurological and laboratory findings, and imaging suggestive of a benign nerve sheath tumor. Surgical decompression and resection were performed, and histopathol
