The Platformized Commercial Persona: CEO Visibility, Fan Labor, and Consumer Engagement in Short-Video Social Commerce.

Research on social commerce, influencer marketing, consumer-brand engagement, and CEO social media communication has rapidly expanded. However, less is known regarding how entrepreneurial leaders' personal short-video accounts operate as platformized interfaces that organize consumer interaction. This study examines how CEO short-video communication produces an observable, collectively sustained commercial persona and connects executive visibility with fan labor, consumer-brand engagement, and consumption imagination. Using the Douyin account of a leading Chinese technology entrepreneur as a c

Affluent-Born White Mother's Descending Neighborhood Income and Infant Mortality: A Population-Based Study.

Objectives To determine whether affluent-born White mother's descending neighborhood income is associated with infant mortality rates (< 365 day, IMR). Methods Stratified and multilevel logistic regression analyses were completed on the Illinois transgenerational dataset of singleton births (1989-1991) to non-Latina White mothers (1956-1976) with an early-life residence in affluent neighborhoods (defined as the fourth quartile of income distribution). The breadth of descending neighborhood income was defined by mother's neighborhood income at the time of delivery. Results Infants of White moth

Preoperative frailty and one-year functional recovery in elderly cardiac surgery patients.

OBJECTIVE: Frailty increases risk for morbidity and mortality after cardiac surgery. Its influence on functional outcome is largely unknown. We studied the association of frailty with health-related quality of life and disability after cardiac surgery. METHODS: A prospective 2-center observational cohort of 555 patients aged 70 years or more undergoing cardiac surgery. A comprehensive frailty assessment was performed before surgery based on 11 individual assessments in physical, mental, and social domains. Frailty was defined as at least 1 positive test in each domain. The primary outcome was

A randomised controlled trial of an exercise plus behaviour change intervention in people with multiple sclerosis: the step it up study protocol.

BACKGROUND: Exercise has consistently yielded short-term, positive effects on health outcomes in people with multiple sclerosis (MS). However, these effects have not been maintained in the long-term. Behaviour change interventions aim to promote long-term positive lifestyle change. This study, namely, "Step it Up" will compare the effect of an exercise plus Social Cognitive Theory (SCT)-based behaviour change intervention with an exercise plus control education intervention on walking mobility among people with MS. METHODS/DESIGN: People with a diagnosis of MS who walk independently, score of

Awakenings in triplicate: in ontogeny, after immobility, and to the presence of a congener. Comments on Ilan Golani's concept of the mobility gradient.

Golani's concept of the "mobility gradient" describes the unfolding of motor behavior after immobility and in ontogeny. The two processes run parallel and are similar across vertebrates. In both time scales, the trend is for the behavior to progressively become enriched, cover more dimensions (motor expansion) and become less dependent on external stimuli (stimulus-bound). This paper addresses the question whether the gradient extends into social, interactive behavior. Observation of natural groups larger than dyads may help answering that question. As an example, the natural social behavior o

"Couch surfing" of Latino foster care alumni: reliance on peers as social capital.

Youth exiting foster care often experience difficulties transitioning into adulthood. This paper focuses on Latino foster care youth in a major southwestern U.S. city and addresses the importance of peer networks as a crucial form of social capital as youth leave foster care. Case studies illustrate experiences of foster care alumni ranging in age from 18 to 26. Findings suggest that lack of housing forces youth into residential mobility or "couch surfing" and episodes of homelessness. Familial connections continue to be important to Latino youth. When Latino youth are unsuccessful in re-estab

Breaking Borders: How Barriers to Global Mobility Hinder International Partnerships in Academic Medicine.

This article describes the authors' personal experiences of collaborating across international borders in academic research. International collaboration in academic medicine is one of the most important ways by which research and innovation develop globally. However, the intersections among colonialism, academic medicine, and global health research have created a neocolonial narrative that perpetuates inequalities in global health partnerships. The authors critically examine the visa process as an example of a racist practice to show how the challenges of blocked mobility increase inequality a

Mobility-based environmental justice: Understanding housing disparity in real-time exposure to air pollution and momentary psychological stress in Beijing, China.

Environmental justice is a crucial environmental and social problem. Previous research in the cities of developed countries has found that ethnic minorities and low-income people were disproportionately exposed to the residential environment with more serious environmental risks. This study proposed a transition from the residence-based perspective to a mobility-based and context-aware approach to reinterpret environmental justice with a focus on the air pollution issue in urban China. A novel research protocol combining geographic ecological momentary assessment and portable air pollutant sen

A Cross-Sectional Survey on Older Adults' Community Mobility in an Indian Metropolis.

Community mobility supports occupational participation among older adults and promotes active ageing. This study aimed to explore community mobility of older adults within an urban Indian context in view of the limited available literature in this area. A cross-sectional survey was conducted on a convenience sample of 75 older adults residing in Chennai city using a questionnaire and a non-retrospective, open format, two-day time diary. Participants engaged in community mobility and activities outside home for 10% of time over two days. Activities and roles related to religious and spiritual a

Development of a WeChat-based Mobile Messaging Smoking Cessation Intervention for Chinese Immigrant Smokers: Qualitative Interview Study.

BACKGROUND: Smoking remains a major public health issue among Chinese immigrants. Smoking cessation programs that focus on this population are scarce and have a limited population-level impact due to their low reach. Mobile messaging interventions have the potential to reach large audiences and expand smokers' access to smoking cessation treatment. OBJECTIVE: This study describes the development of a culturally and linguistically appropriate mobile messaging smoking cessation intervention for Chinese immigrant smokers delivered via WeChat, the most frequently used social media platform among

A Mixed Methods Exploration of Temporospatial Fall Alert Patterns in Australian Aged Care Settings.

Falls among adults over 60 are a global health concern, including Australia. This study aimed to investigate temporospatial fall alert patterns-across time and location-detected by ambient fall detection sensors in three Australian aged care settings, to inform fall prevention strategies.A mixed-methods approach was used to analyze fall alert patterns and fall risks. Ambient fall detection sensors collected data from three care settings (residential aged care facilities [RACFs], retirement villages [RVs], and home dwelling communities [HDCs]; n = 31 households). Quantitative analysis involved f

Gender differences in depression, anxiety, and quality of life in Parkinson's disease before and after deep brain stimulation surgery: a multicentre cohort study.

BACKGROUND: Disproportionately fewer females with Parkinson's disease (PD) undergo deep brain stimulation surgery (DBS). Some data show worse depression, anxiety, and quality of life (QOL) in females with PD. Investigations into these gender disparities, or the effect of DBS on these non-motor symptoms, remain limited. METHODS: 61 PD patients across seven UK DBS centres were recruited for the Clinical Response of Impulsive behaviours to deep brain Stimulation in PD (CRISP) prospective cohort study. Questionnaires measured primary outcomes of depression (Patient Health Questionnaire-9), anxiet

Longitudinal qualitative study of living with neurogenic claudication.

OBJECTIVES: Neurogenic claudication (NC) causes pain and reduced mobility, particularly in older people, and can negatively affect mental and social well-being, so limiting successful ageing. This qualitative study explored how people with NC changed over 12 months. DESIGN: A longitudinal qualitative study using semi-structured interviews. SETTING: Participants were recruited from a UK clinical trial of a physiotherapy intervention for NC. PARTICIPANTS: Interviews were undertaken at baseline, 1 month after receiving any intervention and at 12 months. We analysed 30 sets of three interviews.

Impact of five annual rounds of mass drug administration with diethylcarbamazine and albendazole on Wuchereria bancrofti infection in American Samoa.

American Samoa began a territory-wide mass drug administration (MDA) program with diethylcarbamazine and albendazole in 2000 after baseline surveys indicated that 16.5% of 2,989 residents were infected with Wuchereria bancrofti based on tests for circulating filarial antigen. Follow-up surveys were conducted in 2001, 2003, and 2006, using convenience samples of residents of sentinel villages. Antigenemia prevalence in 2001 (11.5%) and 2003 (13.5%) showed no change. After the 2003 sentinel assessment, improvements were made in the social mobilization and drug distribution strategies. In 2006, a

Envisioning family, but where? Parenthood-related geographic preferences among childless LGB and heterosexual adults in Ecuador.

INTRODUCTION: Research on parenthood aspirations among lesbian, gay, and bisexual (LGB) adults has expanded, yet little is known about the geographic contexts in which parenthood is envisioned, particularly in the Global South. This question has practical relevance because unequal legal recognition, social acceptance, economic opportunity, and personal safety may make the exercise of family formation rights partly contingent on mobility. METHODS: Using a cross-sectional convergent mixed-methods survey, we examined parenthood-related geographic preferences among 184 childless cisgender adults

[Dynamics of geriatric status in older patients under conditions of prolonged hypomobility during the COVID-19 pandemic.].

The COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictive measures introduced during this period had a significant impact on the health status of older adults. In this regard, particular interest is focused on assessing changes in geriatric status, especially the transition from prefrailty to established frailty syndrome under conditions of prolonged physical inactivity and social isolation. The aim of the study was to analyze the dynamics of geriatric status in older patients during prolonged exposure to reduced mobility conditions during lockdown. The study included 525 patients aged 65-74 years residing in
