Intravenous digital subtraction angiography: its use in evaluating vascular injuries in children.

Angiography is often essential in the evaluation of patients with suspected vascular injuries. However, arterial cannulation has a significant inherent complication rate, especially in small patients. Therefore, a less invasive method of evaluating children with such injuries is desirable. We report nine children (age range, 9 months to 16 years; median, 7 years) in whom intravenous digital subtraction angiography (IV-DSA) was used to evaluate suspected vascular injuries. IV-DSA showed a false aneurysm in two children, one managed by ligation alone and the other by resection with primary anast

Nine pheochromocytomas in the same patient. Final mapping with ultrasound and angiography.

A 37-year-old man presented with hypertension and elevated urine catecholamine. Ultrasound scanning revealed a solid tumour of the right adrenal gland and two solid tumours in the retroperitoneum. The findings were confirmed with computed tomography and abdominal angiography. At surgery only the tumour of the right adrenal gland was removed. The histopathologic diagnosis was pheochromocytoma. Postoperatively the symptoms and biochemistry were unchanged and the patient was referred for further treatment. At ultrasonography and abdominal aortography 6 remaining tumours were demonstrated. Surgery

Significance of early angiographic follow-up after internal thoracic artery anastomosis in coronary surgery.

The authors report about the radiological checking of the patency of the internal thoracic artery transplant in 75 patients with coronary artery disease, using intraarterial DSA in the early postoperative phase (between 6th and 8th postoperative day). The left or the right brachial artery was punctated and the contrast medium was injected at a dosage of 50 ml in counter-current. Only one angiogram series per patient was necessary to appraise the anastomosis and the perfusion of the bypass applied. In 5 patients a stenosis and in 4 patients an occlusion of the transplant could to be diagnosed.

Impact on surgery of preoperative localization of parathyroid lesions with dual radionuclide subtraction scanning.

In an effort to localize parathyroid lesions preoperatively, scanning with radioactive thallium and technetium was performed in 20 patients considered clinically to have hyperparathyroidism. In the 11 found at surgery to have single parathyroid adenomas, scanning correctly localized the lesion in 10; in the other patient the lesion was in the unscanned mediastinum. Preoperative scanning was not as rewarding in the seven patients with parathyroid hyperplasia. A thyroid lesion was the source of an abnormality seen on the parathyroid scan in one patient, while neck scanning and surgical explorati

[DSA and conventional angiography compared in the angiographic diagnosis of impotence].

Twenty-three patients complaining of impotence were examined angiographically as part of their investigation. In all patients, DSA as well as conventional angiography was carried out. The purpose of this investigation was to compare the two methods with regard to their diagnostic value. By means of sequential analysis it was shown that, with an error level of 10%, DSA was superior to conventional angiography.

Digital subtraction angiography and pulmonary vascular anomaly. Two case reports.

Two cases are described in which a tortuous pulmonary density, suspicious of vascular anomaly, was studied using venous digital subtraction angiography. One proved to be a pulmonary varix, the other an A-V fistula. The establishment of the diagnosis of such lesions is discussed and the value of D.S.A. is emphasized in comparison with conventional pulmonary angiography by right heart catheterization.

[Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) of arteriovenous pulmonary fistulae].

A-V fistulae of the lungs are almost invariably congenital malformations; depending on their size, they may lead to the picture of a right-to-left shunt with hypoxia, cyanosis and polycythaemia. Chest x-rays, tomograms and CT demonstrate larger fistulae. In order to demonstrate small fistulae, and for pre-operative investigation, angiography is required. DSA is able to replace conventional pulmonary angiography. A patient with five A-V fistulae is described, in whom three could only be seen with the help of DSA.

A central hook-rod construct for osteotomy closure: a technical note.

STUDY DESIGN: A retrospective consecutive case series. OBJECTIVE: To illustrate a new surgical technique for closing osteotomies in fixed sagittal imbalance patients, and to evaluate the radiographic outcomes and complications. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA: During an osteotomy site closure, various techniques were used, most of which involve patient positioning, rod cantilevering, extending the fixation points, allowing less correction, and compressing through pedicle fixation points. Most of these techniques place added stress on the spinal pedicle screw fixation points, which may lead to scr

Digitally Fabricated Dentures for Full Mouth Rehabilitation with Zirconia, Polyetheretherketone and Selective Laser Melted Ti-6Al-4V Material.

CAD/CAM technologies have been embedded into the fabrication of removable partial denture (RPD). Various materials such as zirconia and polyetheretherketone (PEEK) are developed for subtractive manufacturing. As for additive manufacturing, dental professionals have begun to use selective laser melting (SLM) techniques for fabricating metallic RPD frameworks. This report demonstrates a case rehabilitated with a maxillary telescopic crown-retained combining PEEK and zirconia material denture and a mandibular Kennedy Class I RPD fabricated with SLM techniques. First, a conventional impression was

Super-Pedicle Osteotomy for Correction of Focal Thoracolumbar Kyphosis.

BACKGROUND: Focal thoracolumbar kyphotic deformities require operative correction through osteotomies to restore normal spinal balance. Traditional osteotomies, such as the pedicle subtraction osteotomy, that are often used in the lumbar spine are less useful in the thoracolumbar region. The super-pedicle osteotomy is a pedicle-sparing wedge osteotomy that can be used for correction of kyphosis in patients with thoracolumbar deformities. METHODS: A retrospective review was conducted of 9 consecutive cases using the super-pedicle technique. Clinical data regarding patient age at presentation,

Noninvasive evaluation of collateral blood flow through circle of Willis in cervical carotid stenosis using selective magnetic resonance angiography.

BACKGROUND: Preoperative assessment of intracranial collateral circulation is helpful in predicting cerebral ischemia during surgical procedures for cervical internal carotid artery (ICA) stenosis. However, magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) and other less-invasive techniques cannot evaluate collateral blood flow because these techniques are nonselective. Hence, by using a newly developed selective MRA technique, we attempted to visualize collaterals via the circle of Willis in patients with ICA stenosis. METHODS: Twelve patients who underwent carotid endarterectomy were prospectively exami

Upper lip changes correlated with maxillary incisor movement in 65 orthodontically treated adult patients.

AIM: To describe the behavior of the upper lip components following orthodontically induced movement of the maxillary incisor in a sample of 65 adults. METHODS: The study sample was divided into 2 groups: the retraction group, made up of 35 patients in whom the incisor had been moved in a palatal direction (tipping), and the protraction group, consisting of 30 patients who had undergone labial movement of the incisor (tipping). To evaluate the mean changes in lip position and quality of the patients' profiles between T1 (before movement of the incisor) and T2 (after movement of the incisor),

A new Methimazole sensor based on nanocomposite of CdS NPs-RGO/IL-carbon paste electrode using differential FFT continuous linear sweep voltammetry.

A Methimazole sensor was designed and constructed based on nanocomposite of carbon, ionic liquid, reduced graphene oxide (RGO) and CdS nanoparticles. The sensor signal was obtained by Differential FFT continuous linear sweep voltammetry (DFFTCLSV) technique. The potential waveform contains two sections, preconcentration potential and potential ramp. In this detection technique, after subtracting the background current from noise, the electrode response was calculated, based on partial and total charge exchanges at the electrode surface. The combination of RGO and CdS nanoparticles can catalyze

High-Flow Bypass with Vertebral Artery (V3) to Middle Cerebral Artery (M2) Bypass Using Radial Artery Graft for Common Carotid Artery Occlusion.

Common carotid artery (CCA) occlusion is a rare condition that can result in diverse neurological symptoms due to insufficient cerebral blood flow. We present a case of CCA occlusion treated with high-flow vertebral artery (VA) to middle cerebral artery (MCA) bypass using a radial artery (RA) graft. A 68-year-old man experienced recurrent ischemic events in the months preceding surgery. Preoperative diffusion-weighted imaging showed left anterior border zone infarction, and single-photon emission computed tomography revealed severe hemispheric hypoperfusion. CT-Like MRI for Assessing Shoulder Bone and Ligament Injuries.

Introduction This study investigates the use of "CT-like imaging" derived from a 3D multi-echo gradient-recalled echo (GRE) MRI sequence to assess the morphology of bones and ligaments in the shoulder joint. Methods CT-like images were produced using a 3D multi-echo GRE sequence with optimized imaging parameters, including a 5° flip angle and the combination of two echo acquisitions. A monopolar readout gradient was employed to minimize ligament blurring, and subtraction processing was applied to enhance the visualization of both bone and ligament structures. Results In a clinical case of ante

Stent-assisted coil embolization of ruptured vertebral artery dissected aneurysm with severe stenosis of bilateral vertebral artery V4 segment by the transmountain technique: a case report and review of the literatures.

A 46-year-old woman presented with acute head and neck pain for 10 h. Head CT showed subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) identified a ruptured dissected aneurysm of the right vertebral artery with severe artery stenosis. Moreover, an unruptured dissecting aneurysm and severe vascular stenosis were also found in the left vertebral artery. How to deal with ruptured bleeding aneurysm and prophylactically deal with contralateral unruptured dissecting aneurysm and the stenosis of the vertebral artery has become a thorny problem. By adopting the Transmountain tech
