INTRODUCTION: Patient perspectives on chaperone use during examinations, especially in surgical subspecialties, are understudied. We aimed to identify specific patient cohorts that desire the presence of chaperones and compare patient and surgeon perspectives, all in an effort to improve quality of care.

BACKGROUND: With the introduction of latest generation ultrasound technology and its easy availability and portability, regional anesthetic blocks, which were formally in the domain of anesthesiologists, have now become available to practicing plastic surgeons. Interest in day-care surgery is on the increase world-wide, with various surgical specialties embracing this mode of health service.
