The aim of this study was to investigate if tattoo exposure is associated with an increased risk of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma in individuals. In this population-based case-control study, 2857 cases aged 20 to 60 years, diagnosed between 2014 and 2017, were identified in the Swedish Cancer Registry. In this report, a female patient suffering from pigment retention caused by a skin marking pen was elucidated. The patient underwent blepharoplasty 6 months ago and presented with blue-black linear marks at the upper eyelid incision 2 weeks after surgery. INTRODUCTION: A new technique was performed for the removal of an amalgam tattoo (AT), consisting in mucoabrasion combined with a free connective tissue graft (FCTG).
CASE PRESENTATION: A 59-year-old female presented with a large AT involving the alveolar mucosa and gingiva between teeth #7 and #8, where endodontic treatment and apicoectomy was performed 21 years ago. To avoid compromising esthetics, the lesion was managed with a new technique including mucoabrasion and an FCTG. At the 53-month follow-up, the patient exhibited a naturally appearing soft tissue with no evidence of the AT.
