Neurologic complications are the most dreaded complication of spinal tuberculosis. The patients who have paraplegia develop in the active stage of tuberculosis of the spine require active treatment for spinal tuberculosis and have a better prognosis than the patients who have paraplegia develop many years after the initial disease has healed. Neurologic dysfunctions in association with active tuberculosis of the spine can be prevented by early diagnosis and prompt treatment. Prompt treatment can reverse paralysis and minimize the potential disability resulting from Pott's paraplegia. When need

INTRODUCTION: Potts disease is extrapulmonary skeletal tuberculosis mostly affecting the thoracolumbar spine. It destroys the disc space, adjacent vertebral bodies, and spinal elements, leading to cord compression and paraplegia.
METHODS: This is a case report study of a 29-month-old toddler who presented to our hospital with bilateral lower limb weakness.
RESULTS: On clinical, laboratory, and radiological examination, she was diagnosed with Pott's spine, started on antitubercular therapy, and planned for surgery in her follow-up.
CONCLUSION: Tuberculosis of the spine is still prevalent in

Intramedullary spinal tuberculosis infection remains an extremely rare disease entity. In the most recent reviews only 148 cases have been reported in the world literature, although numerous recent reports from developing countries and on human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive patients have increased this number. The authors present an unusual case of intramedullary tuberculoma in an HIV-negative patient from the southern United States who demonstrated no other signs or symptoms of tuberculosis infection. The authors believe that this is the first case of its kind to be presented in recen

BACKGROUND: The incidence of tuberculosis is increasing, and skeletal tuberculosis accounts for 10-20% of all extrapulmonary cases. Spinal tuberculosis occurs mostly in children and young adults. It causes bone destruction, spinal deformity and neural complications.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Our study includes 37 children (below 15 years of age) with spinal tuberculosis treated in our department in the last 6 years. The demographic data, clinical profile, surgical intervention and outcome of these children are reported.
RESULTS: The mean age ranged from 4 to 15 years, with an average of 9.1 yea

Nearly half of skeletal tuberculosis patients have spinal tuberculosis, but psoas abscess develops in only 5% of spinal tuberculosis cases. However, bilateral psoas abscess is a rarity. Psoas abscess occurring in pregnancy could be a clinical dilemma and is hardly reported. We report an unusual presentation of bilateral psoas abscess in pregnancy presenting as an acute abdomen and adnexal mass.

Spinal tuberculosis, the most common form of skeletal involvement, is increasing in prevalence because of the resurgence of tuberculosis during the past decade in patients with AIDS, the spread of tuberculosis among the homeless, and the expanding immigrant population. Spinal infection is usually the result of hematogenous seeding of the vertebral body, and the diagnosis often remains elusive because of the indolent nature of tuberculous infection. As a result, the radiographic findings and the signs and symptoms are typically far advanced when the diagnosis is finally established. Radiographi

BACKGROUND: Spinal epidural abscess caused by tuberculosis is a rare but serious complication of spinal tuberculosis. Its atypical presentation predisposes to diagnostic delay and a poor prognosis. This case not only documents the clinical and radiologic evolution of tuberculous spinal epidural abscess but also suggests that delays in diagnosis and treatment may jointly contribute to serious neurological outcomes.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 39-year-old man initially underwent acupotomy for recurrent low back pain with recent exacerbation. Subsequent imaging revealed a paraspinal abscess within the

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical value of a rapid immunochromatographic assay in diagnosis and differential diagnosis of bone and joint tuberculosis.
METHOD: Antibodies in sera from 75 patients with active bone and joint tuberculosis, 69 patients with non-tuberculous bone and joint diseases and 72 healthy individuals were detected by the rapid immunochromatographic assay using ICT-TB kit.
RESULT: The positive rate was found to be 80% in the patients with active bone and joint tuberculosis, while 90% in the group with spinal tuberculosis, 53% in the extra-spinal articular tuberculosis. The

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Old healed spinal tuberculosis sometimes makes bony ankylosis with kyphotic deformity. This bony ankylosis with adjacent vertebra is like ankylosing spinal disorders (ASDs) such as ankylosing spondylitis and diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis. There is lots of report which revealed that conservative management might be failed in thoracolumbar fracture in ASDs. However, there is no report which shows surgical treatment was finally done because conservative management was failed in fracture healing of fusion mass caused by old spinal tuberculosis.

STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective study.
PURPOSE: To note the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) differences between pathologically proven cases of atypical spinal tuberculosis and spinal metastasis in 40 cases.
OVERVIEW OF LITERATURE: Spinal tuberculosis, or Pott's spine, constitutes less than 1% of all cases of tuberculosis and can be associated with a neurologic deficit. Breast, prostate and lung cancer are responsible for more than 80% of metastatic bone disease cases, and spine is the most common site of bone metastasis. Thus, early diagnosis and prompt management of these pathologies are essen

Tuberculosis is still a major cause of serious illness in many parts of the world. CNS involvement has frequently been found secondary to tuberculosis elsewhere in the body, particularly the lungs. The disease manifests itself as meningitis, tuberculoma and/or spinal tuberculosis. The presence of tuberculosis elsewhere in the body favors the diagnosis although its absence does not exclude it. While tuberculous meningitis is a disease of childhood, tuberculomas and spinal tuberculosis are invariably an adult manifestation. The great majority of patients with neurotuberculosis are diagnosed and

The authors described 2 patients with spinal tuberculosis. The first one was presented with multiple anterior marginal involvement of vertebral bodies, centrosomatic spondylitis of L3, associated with a syndesmophytic showing spinal ossification. In the second case, spinal tuberculosis involved the vertebral arc of L2 and L4. A paravertebral ossification on both sides of L4 was seen. The nature of these vertebral and paravertebral ossifications was discussed.

Spinal tuberculosis (TB), previously known as Pott’s disease, is the most common bone infection caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The diagnosis of spinal TB is based on clinical, radiographic, microbiological, and histological findings. Its indolent nature, subacute progression, paucibacillary state, and difficulties in obtaining adequate samples often result in delayed diagnosis. The emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) TB has posed significant challenges in the management of TB infections. Here, we present a case of pre-XDR tuberculosis of the spine

INTRODUCTION: Central nervous system tuberculosis is a common chronic infection in developing countries, being the most frequent forms: tuberculous meningitis and intracranial tuberculosis. Extramedullary intradural tuberculosis is a rare entity with few cases described in the world literature, and is usually associated with a history of tuberculous meningitis or during antituberculosis treatment.
CASE REPORT: A 17 years-old male patient, without history of tuberculosis, with subacute onset and progressive course of compressive myelopathy. Spinal magnetic resonance imaging revealed an intradu

Tuberculosis of the central nervous system is uncommon. The intramedullary localization is exceptional. We report five cases of intramedullary tuberculosis observed in four women and one man with a mean age of 43 years. Two patients had a prior history of tuberculosis. Spinal cord compression was found clinically in all cases. The spinal MRI visualized the tuberculoma in all patients; two had a double tumor. Complete removal of the tuberculoma was possible in only one patient. Outcome was stationary for four patients.

Tuberculosis of the cervical spine is a rare but deadly form of tuberculosis (TB), where the infection affects the cervical vertebrae or bones of the neck. It is also known as Pott's disease. The causative organism is Mycobacterium tuberculosis. It usually occurs when TB bacteria spread from other body parts, such as the lungs, to the cervical vertebrae through the bloodstream or lymphatic system. It also shows extrapulmonary involvement, including the central nervous, genitourinary, and lymphatic systems, bones, and joints. Tuberculosis of the spine is often seen. Cervical spine tuberculosis

Tuberculosis is a widespread, airborne infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria. This infection is often misdiagnosed, particularly in the case of spinal tuberculosis which can present atypically. Although rare, tuberculosis can mimic bone tumors or metastatic lesions in the spine. In patients with immunosuppression who have cancer and show signs of lymph node involvement and bone lesions, it is important to explore other potential causes as part of the diagnosis process. Here, we present a case of renal cell carcinoma in which a lytic lesion in the spinal cord was init

INTRODUCTION: Bone and joint tuberculosis has increased in the past two decades in relation with AIDS epidemics.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A literature review of bone and joint tuberculosis, focusing on Pott's disease.
RESULTS: Bone and joint TB comprises a group of serious infectious diseases whose incidence has increased in the past two decades, especially in underdeveloped countries, in part due to the AIDS epidemic. Tuberculous spinal infections should be suspected in patients with an insidious, progressive history of back pain and in individuals from an endemic area, especially when the tho

INTRODUCTION AND IMPORTANCE: Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) causes an infectious disease called tuberculosis which affects lung and other site of body. Spinal tuberculosis accounts for about half of all occurrences of skeletal tuberculosis. Patients with upper thoracic spinal TB are at an increased risk of severe spinal cord injury and kyphotic deformity, which may require surgery. Several treatment modalities include debridement, chemotherapy treatment, and decompression of the spinal twine and nerves.

The paper presents the results of examination of spinal fluid in tuberculous spondylitis (n = 83), its sequelae (n = 58), spinal osteomyelitis (n = 25) for the levels of tuberculosis antibodies (TAb) by applying the routine enzyme immunoassay, specially adapted to this biological object, and immunoglobulins. A relationship was found between TAb detection and the rate of the process and the severity of a spinal cord lesion. Forty one patients had severe spinal cord disorders (paraplegia and deep paraparesis). To detect TAb in CF is shown to be of differential diagnostic value. There is new evid
