We report a 31-year-old male patient suffering from Sweet's syndrome. The particularities of the case are the long period between onset of the disease and establishment of the diagnosis-the cutaneous lesions having persisted all the time, and the marked persistence of postlesional erythemas showing positive improvement by means of selective ultraviolet phototherapy (SUP).

The therapeutic value of various ultraviolet treatments was assessed in patients with moderately severe papulopustular acne. The results did not verify the common belief that ultraviolet radiation is highly beneficial. In no instance was the comedo count appreciably reduced. 35 patients with psoriasis were treated solely by UV irradiation using a Saalmann selective ultraviolet phototherapy lamp (SUP), a mercury lamp with increased emission between 310 and 320 nm. Irradiation four to five times weekly produced 90 to 100% improvement in 83% of the patients. Nineteen of the thus-treated patients showed complete clearing of the psoriatic lesions. The average duration of treatment was 4 weeks. These good results were maintained on a regimen of twice-weekly UV therapy.

BACKGROUND: Mycosis fungoides (MF) is the most common type of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, which typically presents as a patch or plaque in early-stage disease. Phototherapy including psoralen plus ultraviolet A and ultraviolet B are well-established treatment modalities in management of early-stage MF. Although many chemicals, including cocarcinogens, DNA-binding agents, and steroids, inhibit repair replication of ultraviolet-induced damage to DNA in human lymphocytes and proliferating cells in culture, none of these chemicals is specific. Our results show that all the chemicals than they inhibit repair replication. There is thus no cocarcinogens are specific inhibitors of DNA repair or that any of the chemicals studied might be useful adjuncts to tumor therapy merely because of specific inhibition of radiation repair mechanisms.

Fifteen out of twenty-three female patients (65%) receiving PUVA therapy showed signs of moderate to severe hypertrichosis.
