A comparison was made of chemoradiation lesions of lower urinary tract mucosa in urinary bladder (UB) cancer at stage T1-3N0-1MO and approaches to their treatment. An optimal algorithm of examination and treatment of the above patients with consideration of the disease stage and somatic status is proposed.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the practicability of survivin detection in urine as a novel diagnostic method and prognostic molecular marker of bladder cancer.
METHODS: Nested RT-PCR was used to detect survivin mRNA expression in urine specimens from 20 healthy persons and patients with bladder carcinomas (n=30), prostate cancer (n=10), and renal cancer (n=6).
RESULTS: The result show that survivin was not detected in the urine samples of six of 30 patients with bladder cancer, whereas all the results were negative the other 36 persons. The positive rates of survivin and their expression levels

A rare case of clear cell adenocarcinoma within a bladder diverticulum is presented. A 69-year-old man presented to our institution with gross hematuria. Workup, including computed tomography and cystoscopy, revealed a papillary bladder mass within a bladder diverticulum near the right ureteral orifice. Carcinosarcomas are rare biphasic malignant neoplasms with an epithelial and a spindle cell component. We present a 62-year-old man with a history of noticeably abdominal distension, proved by surgery to be caused by carcinosarcoma of the renal pelvis and urinary bladder, occupying the entire left abdominal flank. We also illustrate the appearance of this rare entity on sonography and computed tomography.

This was a prospective, clinical study to evaluate the effect of abdominal and vaginal hysterectomy for benign indications on urinary symptoms and residual bladder volume. We assessed the bladder neck (BN) by perineal ultrasonography of 39 patients before and 1 year after hysterectomy, and we compared them with 30 control cases in terms of stress urinary incontinence. We evaluated the BN position and mobility in the downwards and backwards directions. The bladder neck was found to be significantly lower at rest, in the downwards direction, in the postoperative period. The stress position of the BN was not significantly different. We report a case of neuroendocrine cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder. The patient was a 70-year-old man, complaining of pollakisuria. Cystoscopy and computerized tomography revealed a nonpapillary tumor. The tumor was removed by transurethral resection. Because of muscular invasion (T2) and histological grade, total cystectomy and ileal conduit were carried out. Examination of the resected specimen indicated pathological TO. He rejected our proposal to have chemotherapy. Twelve months post-operatively he was alive without recurrence.

A new MIRD dynamic model has been used to provide estimates of the dose to the urinary bladder resulting from the administration of the therapeutic agents 131I as iodide (for thyroid carcinoma) and 131I meta-iodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) (for neuroendocrine tumours). We describe a patient who presented with gross haematuria and dysuria. Investigations confirmed a bladder tumour, for which transurethral resection was done.
