This review attempts to summarize the current knowledge on uterine inflammatory response after mating in horses, pigs and cattle. Post-mating endometritis has been extensively studied in horses as it has been considered to cause infertility. The inflammation is known to occur also in cattle, but it has not been investigated to a similar extent. There are a number of publications about mechanisms of post-mating uterine inflammation in pigs, which seem to resemble those in horses. Bicornuate and septate uteri are among the commonest Mullerian anomalies. They are sporadic and fairly distinguished, but hybrid deformities can occur. This combination creates aetiological and clinical difficulties. The alternative theory of concurrent fusion and septal resorption of the Mullerian duct is seen as the basis of the altered foetal embryology, while the favourable outlook of a bicornuate uterus may be offset by the suboptimal implantation across the avascular septum. Pregnant women managed by us after suture repairs for rupture of the pregnant uterus between 2006 and 2009 in Enugu, South-east Nigeria were reviewed. Five pregnancies were managed during the study period. Four had normal pregnancies. Three booked early in pregnancy and had repeat caesarean deliveries at 36 weeks' gestation. One booked at another private hospital but had emergency caesarean section at 38 weeks' gestation. The conventional management of urogenital fistulas is surgical but a recent review of world data showed a high efficacy of hormonal manipulation by the induction of amenorrhea in the treatment of vesicouterine fistulas (VUFs). In fact, VUFs were first demonstrated to be hormonally regulated due to the fistulous canal being lined by endometrium. In this report, we suggest and discuss that, in women of reproductive age, the phenomenon of hormonal regulation is likely to be present in other fistulas communicating with the uterus, like ureterouterine and enterouterine fistulas.

Pure rhabdomyosarcomas occurring in the adult uterus are very rare, with poor prognosis. We present a case of a 67-year-old woman with postmenopausal vaginal bleeding caused by pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma of the uterus, treated with hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, pelvic/paraaortic lymphadenectomy and partial sigmoidectomy. Postoperative chemotherapy (Doxorubicin) was given according to protocol. Follow-up examinations one year after surgery revealed no abnormalities or tumor recurrence. The rarity of this histological entity makes the presented case worthy of publication.

This study was undertaken to examine the reproductive impact of unicornuate uterine abnormalities cases in a group of 571 women with a uterine anomaly. Hospital records of 1784 patients who presented to the infertility outpatient clinic with infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss, pain or acute abdomen during the study period between January 1991 and January 2001, were reviewed retrospectively. The reproductive performance of women with unicornuate uterus was poor, with a live birth rate of only 29.2%, prematurity rate of 44%, miscarriage rate of 29%, and an ectopic pregnancy rate of 4%.
