Contributing factors to reversed willingness to vaccinate after the COVID-19 pandemic: Insights from a national panel survey.

INTRODUCTION: Vaccination shows effectiveness at personal and community levels. To manage vaccine demand and supply, effectively promote vaccination, and plan future vaccination strategies, it is crucial to understand the change in the population's willingness over time. Extreme changes in vaccination willingness can affect vaccine oversupply and shortage. Few longitudinal studies have focused on vaccination willingness after the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, we sought to explore temporal changes in COVID-19 vaccination willingness and identify associated variables during and after the pandemi

A rapid increase in coverage of COVID-19 vaccination, Central African Republic.

PROBLEM: In 2021, Central African Republic was facing multiple challenges in vaccinating its population against coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), including inadequate infrastructure and funding, a shortage of health workers and vaccine hesitancy among the population. APPROACH: To increase COVID-19 vaccination coverage, the health ministry used three main approaches: (i) task shifting to train and equip existing community health workers (CHWs) to deliver COVID-19 vaccination; (ii) evidence gathering to understand people's reluctance to be vaccinated; and (iii) bundling of COVID-19 vaccinati

Willingness to pay for influenza vaccination among the elderly in Vietnam: A triple-bounded dichotomous choice analysis of economic and behavioral determinants.

BACKGROUND: Seasonal influenza causes significant morbidity among the elderly, yet vaccination remains an out-of-pocket expense in Vietnam. This study evaluated the willingness to pay (WTP) for influenza vaccination and its determinants among the elderly in Vietnam. METHODS: A community-based cross-sectional study was conducted in Can Tho City, Vietnam (N = 1486). We employed the Contingent Valuation Method with a Triple-Bounded Dichotomous Choice framework. Data were analyzed using multivariable logistic regression to identify predictors of WTP and interval regression to estimate the mean WT

Adolescents' attitudes to the COVID-19 vaccination.

Vaccines against COVID-19 are now available for adolescents in Hong Kong but vaccine hesitancy is a major barrier to herd immunity. This survey study explores Hong Kong adolescents' attitudes towards the COVID-19 vaccination. 2609 adolescents from across Hong Kong completed an online survey focused on the intent to vaccinate and the reasons for their choice. 39% of adolescents intended to take the COVID-19 vaccination and significant factors for this decision include: having at least one parent vaccinated, knowing somebody diagnosed with COVID-19 and receiving the influenza vaccine. Adolescent

Closing adult vaccination gaps through a pharmacist-directed transitions of care service in a safety-net hospital.

BACKGROUND: Adult vaccination gaps remain common, especially among populations with health and socioeconomic disparities. Although pharmacist-led vaccination initiatives have been studied in community settings, less is known about incorporating vaccine assessment and intervention in inpatient settings. This study evaluated the impact of a pharmacist-led inpatient vaccination initiative nested within a transitions of care (PharmTOC) consult service. OBJECTIVES: The primary objective was to assess the impact of an inpatient pharmacist-directed immunization initiative. Secondary objectives were

From Vaccine Skepticism to Institutional Distrust: The Post-Pandemic Shift.

Background: Vaccine hesitancy has traditionally been understood as a multifactorial phenomenon shaped by individual beliefs, risk perceptions, and access barriers. However, the COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally transformed the relationship between citizens, science, and public institutions, raising the question of whether vaccine hesitancy has evolved into a broader form of institutional distrust. Objective: This narrative review synthesizes evidence on vaccine confidence, trust dynamics, misinformation, and post-pandemic attitudes to propose a new conceptual framework, i.e., institutional h

Vaccine refusal - what we need to know.

OBJECTIVE: Opposition to vaccines is not a new event, and appeared soon after the introduction of the smallpox vaccine in the late 18th century. The purpose of this review is to educate healthcare professionals about vaccine hesitancy and refusal, its causes and consequences, and make suggestions to address this challenge. SOURCE OF DATA: A comprehensive and non-systematic search was carried out in the PubMed, LILACS, and ScieLo databases from 1980 to the present day, using the terms "vaccine refusal," "vaccine hesitancy," and "vaccine confidence." The publications considered as the most rele

'When you hear such rumours, you get scared': A comparison of vaccine-related concerns between the oral polio vaccine and Covid-19 vaccines among communities in Cameroon and Ethiopia.

Despite widespread acceptance of the oral polio vaccine (OPV), vaccine hesitancy towards OPV in some countries presents a barrier to global eradication efforts. Between 2021 and 2022, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative implemented OPV campaigns concurrently with the roll-out of Covid-19 vaccines, for which vaccine hesitancy is well-documented. We sought to understand stakeholder perceptions of OPV and Covid-19 vaccines in Cameroon and Ethiopia. We implemented 32 focus group discussions (16 per country) with n = 216 caregivers of children under 5 and polio frontline workers to understand r

Influences on COVID-19 vaccine Decision-Making: A Qualitative Study With Urban Indigenous and Rural Adults.

Despite the safety and effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine, public hesitancy about receiving vaccination remains strong among disproportionately affected populations in the United States. To design more locally and culturally appropriate strategies, research is needed to explore the qualitative characteristics of vaccine hesitancy in these populations. Thus, we conducted in-depth interviews with 19 Indigenous and 20 rural participants and utilized a grounded theory approach to identify factors associated with their COVID-19 vaccine decision making. Wariness regarding safety of vaccines, resi

Bridging knowledge gaps: An observational study on HPV awareness and misconceptions among young adults in China.

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is a sexually transmitted infection associated with genital warts and multiple cancers. HPV awareness and vaccine coverage remain low in mainland China. With the rise of digital social media, young people increasingly acquire knowledge and information online, influencing their perceptions and decisions. Impact of social media on HPV knowledge and vaccine hesitancy remains unclear. The study aimed to assess the knowledge and awareness of HPV and its vaccines hesitancy among young adults in China using an online structured questionnaire with implied consent. Our findin

The ethics and moral psychology of HPV vaccination: Evidence from a cross-cultural study.

Vaccine hesitancy is a major threat to public health worldwide. Debates about vaccines are often moralized; however, how ethics and ethical judgments relate to vaccination intention remains underexplored. Here, we identify ethically relevant concerns from the academic literature that we operationalize for a pre-registered survey to study how ethical judgments relate to parents' intentions to vaccinate their children against HPV. We also investigate potential sociocultural influences on ethical judgments: we compare parents from the US, the UK, and Germany. We find that parents' ethical judgmen

vACcine COnfidence amongst those living with alleRgy during the COVID pandemic (ACCORD): a scoping review protocol.

BACKGROUND: Reports of allergic reactions to the COVID-19 vaccines have been documented, which may also contribute to hesitancy. Despite the low likelihood that the COVID-19 vaccine will trigger an allergic reaction, we and others have reported that families with allergy remain vaccine hesitant due to concerns of COVID-19-vaccine-triggered anaphylaxis. OBJECTIVE: To present our scoping review protocol, that will inform a forthcoming living scoping review in which we will investigate the peer-reviewed and grey literature on COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and allergic disease and/or allergic reacti
