This report highlights the association between tuberous sclerosis and Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. Ten patients with concurrent diagnoses of Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome and tuberous sclerosis were identified. Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome presented early in life, nine cases being diagnosed in the first year. Eight of the 10 cases were male. In eight cases, the syndrome was associated with supraventricular tachycardias, and in nine with cardiac rhabdomyomata. BACKGROUND: Sun protection behaviors are recommended to prevent skin cancer, which has increased in incidence. This study measured the prevalence of sun protection behaviors and determined personal characteristics associated with them.
METHODS: Data from 10,048 white respondents to the 1992 National Health Interview Survey Cancer Control Supplement were analyzed. Multiple logistic regression models were constructed to relate personal characteristics to specific behaviors.

Occasionally, striking abnormalities are found on MRI in patients with mild neurological disturbances. In most of these cases the diagnosis is not immediately evident and the history does not provide an unequivocal explantation. We present a patient with extensive symmetrical white matter abnormalities in the posterior temporal, temporo-occipital and parietal regions, 24 years after documented severe meningococcal meningoencephalitis. A meningitic vasculitis, affecting the insular branches of the middle cerebral arteries, could have been responsible for these changes.

BACKGROUND: Multiple evanescent white dot syndrome (MEWDS) is a benign acquired isolated chorioretinal disorder. Symptoms include photopsia, visual blur and scotomas. Ocular examination reveals multiple white dots at the level of the deep retina. A parainfectious disorder was suggested but the exact mechanism of MEWDS is still unknown. Postulating that MEWDS might be an antigen driven inflammatory reaction, we analyzed HLA subtypes in patients with MEWDS.

Since 1988, 11 cases of a new entity, 'Lipoprotein glomerulopathy' (LG), were described in Japan. Some of these reports suggested that this glomerular lipid storage is due to excess apo E associated with heterozygous E2/3 apo E isoform. We present our experience on the efficacy of propafenone in ten symptomatic patients with Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome. The symptoms were dizziness in seven patients and syncope in three patients. The effect of intravenous (1.5 to 2.0 mg/kg body weight) and oral (300 to 375 mg/d) diprafenone was studied in 15 patients with the Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome and symptomatic supraventricular tachycardia.
