OBJECTIVE: To observe the toxity of niclosamide on the growth of silkworms.
METHODS: Mulberry leaves were soaked in the different concentrations of solution of 50% ethanol salt powder of niclosamide for 10 s or 3 min, and then the leaves were fed to silkworms. The death rates of silkworms and the weight of cocoons were observed. Normal feeding control groups were established.
RESULTS: The death rates were 22.5%-85.0% and 56.0%-100% in the 10-s-soaked groups and 3-min groups, respectively, which were significantly higher than those in the control groups.

The effect of a transpyloric tube on duodenogastric reflux and on gastric emptying was studied in dogs with either an intact pylorus, a Heineke-Mikulicz pyloroplasty, or an extramucosal circular pylorectomy. In fasting dogs, duodenogastric reflux was 10 times smaller than after feeding a liquid lipid meal. BACKGROUND: Successful tongue reconstruction after total glossectomy for advanced tongue or base of tongue cancer should restore swallowing, speech function, and cosmesis.
METHODS: The anterior lateral thigh flap sensitive myocutaneous (ALTF) with vastus lateralis muscle was used to reconstruct the oral defect in a patient undergoing total glossectomy with laryngeal preservation for T4 tongue cancer.

Bot fly larvae (Philornis genus) are obligate subcutaneous blood-feeding parasites of Neotropical birds including psittacines. We analyze twelve years of data on scarlet macaw (Ara macao) nestlings in natural and artificial nests in the lowland forests of southeastern Peru and report prevalence and intensity of Philornis parasitism.
