METHODS: A self-report questionnaire was distributed to 74 patients attending a regional rheumatology clinic and returned by prepaid post. Fifty-nine questionnaires were returned (response rate 80%) and 57 of them were usable. Toward evidence-based prescribing at end of life: a comparative review of temazepam and zolpidem for the treatment of insomnia.

A comparative review of temazepam and zolpidem use in managing insomnia in the hospice patient was undertaken to determine whether treatment with temazepam is a more cost-effective approach for this patient population. A MEDLINE search was conducted to identify pertinent literature, including clinical trials and reviews that involved temazepam or zolpidem. Published data was used as background information and provided in the discussion. This retrospective analysis, conducted from June 2002 through November 2002, focused on the prescribing patterns of temazepam and zolpidem in our hospice pract

[Lifestyle and health status of homeless people around Shibuya Station, Tokyo].

The number of homeless people in Tokyo is estimated to be 3,200-3,300. While studies on the health status of homeless people, including illness, injury and deaths have been previously reported, most of these reports concern the homeless who resided in housing facilities for the homeless or who admitted to hospitals. We undertook a comparison of lifestyle and health status between homeless people and people who live in houses (as a control group). Health status was also analyzed for differences among homeless people. Subjects were asked by questionnaire regarding their age, the length of being

Rapid repeat pregnancy and experiences of interpersonal violence among low-income adolescents.

CONTEXT: Rapid repeat pregnancy (RRP) among adolescents, usually defined as pregnancy onset within 12-24 months of the previous pregnancy outcome, has frequently been the target of public health interventions, due to the exacerbation of negative consequences associated with recurrent adolescent pregnancy (and more specifically with childbearing). OBJECTIVE: To examine what, if any, relationship exists between RRP and the experience of interpersonal violence and abuse among low-income adolescents at one semi-urban health center. DESIGN: Case-control study using retrospective chart review. PA

Public health, policy, and clinical interventions to improve perinatal care for migrant women and infants in high-income countries: a systematic review.

BACKGROUND: Migrant women who are pregnant or postpartum and their infants are often at increased risk of poorer perinatal outcomes compared to host country populations. METHODS: In this systematic review we searched EMBASE, EMCARE, MEDLINE and PsycINFO, CENTRAL, Scopus, CINAHL Plus, Web of Science, and grey literature from inception to 13th March 2024, with no language or date restrictions (PROSPERO: CRD42022380678). Navigating adulthood with maple syrup urine disease: patient and caregiver perspectives on healthcare transition and independent living.

BACKGROUND: Medical advances in diagnosis and management have increased the life expectancy of many pediatric-onset rare diseases, including inherited metabolic disorders (IMDs). Historically fatal childhood conditions are now manageable chronic illnesses, with over 90% of individuals with IMD reaching adulthood. As more individuals with IMDs reach adulthood (age 18 years), there is a new imperative for health care transition planning that promotes developmentally-appropriate skills for medical self-management and independent living. Knowledge gaps on the long-term disease-related outcomes lim

Community participation and consultation in palliative and end-of-life care: Building death literacy through a participatory theory of change.

INTRODUCTION: Death literacy refers to the knowledge, skills, confidence, and social capacity that enable individuals and communities to understand and respond to dying, death, and loss, including palliative and end-of-life care. In low- and middle-income countries such as Ghana, access to palliative care remains limited due to under-resourced health systems, poverty, and socio-cultural norms that discourage open discussions about death. Despite growing global interest in death literacy and public health palliative care, there is limited evidence on how these are developed through culturally e

Sources of stress and coping strategies employed by undergraduate students over a semester: motivations and implications for academic success.

University students commonly experience high levels of stress, which negatively impact on academic performance, engagement, and well-being. Coping strategies can be employed to manage stress, but there have not been extensive examinations of student motivations for selecting coping strategies and how selection of strategies changes during a semester. This study explored sources of stress and coping strategies used by first-year undergraduate students across a semester. It examined reasons for strategy selection and the relationships between coping strategies, academic engagement, and performan

Perceived Factors Influencing Health-Seeking for Substance Use Among Secondary School Learners in the Western Cape, South Africa.

BACKGROUND: Adolescent alcohol and other drug use represents a growing public health challenge in South Africa, particularly in the Western Cape, with early onset and high prevalence rates. Despite the urgent need for prevention and treatment programmes (aligned with SDG 3.5), a substantial treatment gap exists, with many young people failing to seek or receive adequate prevention and treatment services. Understanding perceived factors influencing help-seeking among a heterogenous group of adolescents is essential for developing youth-friendly prevention and treatment. OBJECTIVES: This resear

An Equity-Driven Analysis of the Implications of Attachment and Attachment Readiness Within Primary Care Healthcare Systems in Canada.

Background: The persistent challenge of not having a physician or nurse practitioner for ongoing care for millions of residents imposes a burden on the health economy in Canada and demands a shift in focus from mere system registry to the value-based concept of attachment readiness. With a hypothesis that true attachment is a function of attachment readiness, a relational process shaped by the intersection of patients' preparation, providers' capacity, and systemic support, this study aims to investigate the challenges of attachment-creating barriers to meaningful healthcare relationships. Investigating a Telerehabilitation Platform Integrated With a Rehabilitation Robot Using Microsoft HoloLens 2 for Upper-Limb Therapy: Pilot Usability Study.

BACKGROUND: Upper-limb impairments following conditions such as stroke and spinal cord injury contribute significantly to long-term disability. Many survivors of stroke face limited access to rehabilitation due to geographical, financial, or scheduling barriers, leaving unmet therapeutic needs. OBJECTIVE: This study conducted a preliminary evaluation of the usability of a novel telerehabilitation platform integrating a portable, desktop-mounted robot (DMRbotV3) with a mixed reality HoloLens 2 application to support accessible and adaptive upper-limb neurorehabilitation.
