BACKGROUND: Nursing education increasingly requires graduates to assume instructional roles in multicultural care environments. In long-term and acute care settings, nurses frequently supervise and educate foreign caregivers, yet formal preparation for multilingual instructional practice remains limited.
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to design and evaluate a Problem Based Learning intervention integrating English for Nursing Purposes (PBL-based ENP) to prepare nursing students for instructional roles involving foreign caregivers. Specifically, it examined the intervention's effectiveness in en

BACKGROUND: Shared decision-making (SDM) is fundamental to person-centered psychiatry, yet its implementation in schizophrenia care remains limited and poorly understood. Existing research predominantly examines SDM from either healthcare provider or patient perspectives, overlooking the integrated perspectives from both sides within clinical settings.
OBJECTIVE: To explore shared decision-making experiences in inpatient schizophrenia care from the integrated perspectives of nurses and patients on the same clinical unit.
METHODS: A phenomenological qualitative study was conducted in a tertia

Background/Objectives: Clinical alarm management in continuous patient monitoring systems remains a major challenge in intensive care units (ICUs). The high frequency of nonactionable alarms contributes to alarm fatigue among healthcare professionals, potentially compromising patient safety, clinical surveillance, and the quality of nursing care. As nurses play a central role in monitoring critically ill patients, evidence-based alarm management strategies are essential to improve the quality of care and patient outcomes. This review aimed to synthesize the scientific evidence on nursing inter

BACKGROUND: Intravenous infusion is a key part of nursing practice, and its scientific reliability and safety directly affect nursing quality and patient satisfaction. Currently, most hospitals still use traditional gravity infusion, with inherent limitations that burden nursing staff. Therefore, information management is an effective strategy to enhance medication safety.
AIM: This study aimed to explore the effect of intelligent infusion monitoring systems in improving patient infusion safety.
METHODS: The study used a retrospective study design. A collaborative development of an intellige

BACKGROUND: We are obliged to give babies the chance to profit from a nationwide screening of developmental dysplasia of the hip in very rural areas of Mongolia, where trained physicians are scarce. This study aimed to compare the quality and interpretation of hip ultrasound screening examinations performed by nurses and junior physicians.
METHODS: A group of 6 nurses and 6 junior physician volunteers with no previous ultrasound experience underwent Graf's standard training in hands-on practice. Newborns were examined before discharge from the hospital, according to the national guideline. Tw

OBJECTIVES: To investigate factors that promote and prevent the use of compression therapy in people with venous leg ulcers.
DESIGN: Qualitative interview study with nurses using the Theoretical Domains Framework (TDF).
SETTING: Three National Health Service Trusts in England.
PARTICIPANTS: Purposive sample of 15 nurses delivering wound care.
RESULTS: Nurses described factors which made provision of compression therapy challenging. Organisational barriers (TDF domains environmental context and resources/knowledge, skills/behavioural regulation) included heavy/increasing caseloads; lack of

OBJECTIVE: To investigate whether nursing intervention via telephone follow-up can affect health-related quality of life among road users in the postinjury phase.
BACKGROUND: Injuries in the traffic environment often cause both physical impairment and psychological trauma. Therefore, it is important to investigate whether nursing via telephone follow-up after discharge could affect health-related quality of life among injured road users.
DESIGN: A randomised controlled study.

Lymphorrhoea-otherwise known as 'wet' or 'leaky' legs-is an increasingly common condition that many community nurses will encounter in their daily practice; however, until relatively recently, evidence-based literature on its management was limited, and treatment modalities only tackled the symptoms instead of addressing the cause. In this article, Francesca Ramadan highlights the devastating impact of this condition, and the resources available to community practitioners to assist their patients to live well with lymphoedema.

This qualitative, descriptive, phenomenological study explored how southern, rural women in India (N = 14) view health, how they learned about health, and what health education they desired. Health education classes were offered, based on participants' responses. Recommendations are offered for a best practice model that could potentially enhance the efforts of non-Indian nurses desiring to assist impoverished women and families in India.

Patients with cancer tend to suffer sleep-wake disturbances at a higher rate than the general population. Insomnia and fatigue should be regarded as a significant patient safety issue, as poor sleep can elevate patients' risks of falls, motor vehicle accidents, and acute infectious illnesses. To alleviate those risks, oncology nurses should be familiar with effective evidence-based practices for assessing and improving patients' sleep quality.

Following adverse publicity about the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine, most parents ask their health visitors, GPs and practice nurses about the risks and benefits. To address parents' concerns and help health professionals answer their questions, the Department of Health has provided information through its agency NHS Immunisation Information. This article contains some of the commonly asked questions together with answers and references.

Many patients undergo urethral catheterisation. Selecting the most appropriate catheter for an individual patient requires knowledge and a practical understanding of the types of catheter available. A number of factors should be considered in catheter selection, including patient needs, indications for catheterisation, the type of material, the balloon size and the length and diameter of the catheter. The aim of this article is to provide information that will clarify some of the concerns nurses might have regarding urethral catheterisation.

The paramount importance of differentiating the wide-QRS tachycardias is stressed, and the alarming frequency of errors made by practicing physicians and cardiovascular nurses is documented. The most common causes of error are outlined, of which the most important is ignorance of diagnostically helpful QRS morphology in the electrocardiogram (EKG). The QRS contours and polarity that are useful in diagnosis are described in detail and illustrated. Finally, certain compromises in electrode placement that may be necessary in the operating room are suggested.

Catheterization of the vena cava has become a routine measure in clinical practice. Its main applications are for prevention and treatment of shock, infusion therapy and parenteral feeding. Its advantages, however, are partially offset by potential complications which may arise during or after introduction of the catheter. To minimize the risk of complications the following conditions should be fulfilled: strict indication, a subtile and strictly aseptic technique and careful nursing.

Background and PurposeNurse practitioners (NPs) make treatment decisions impacting older people with neurocognitive disorders (NCDs), like mild cognitive impairment and dementia. Research has shown that when this patient population has cancer, they face barriers accessing care, have higher mortality rates and limited involvement in decision-making. Despite their critical role, few NPs have been included in studies exploring treatment decision-making affecting this population. To improve experiences for older people and their families, this study explored NPs' decision-making experiences when i
