Associations between sensory changes and psychological problems after moderate-to-severe traumatic brain injury: A network analysis.

BACKGROUND: Moderate-to-severe traumatic brain injury (msTBI) is frequently accompanied by persistent sensory changes that can substantially impair quality of life. Theory suggests that these changes may not occur in isolation but instead be closely intertwined with psychological difficulties (eg, anxiety). A better understanding of the interrelationships between sensory changes and psychological problems may help identify mechanisms underlying symptom persistence and inform rehabilitation efforts. METHODS: We conducted a psychometric network analysis on cross-sectional questionnaire data fro

What Does the PCL-5 Measure? A Conjoint Hierarchical Analysis Using the MMPI-3.

The PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5) is a widely used screening instrument for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms. There is active debate about what the PCL-5 actually measures (i.e., PTSD specific symptoms vs general distress or other transdiagnostic factors), especially when positive screenings are observed using total sum scores. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-3 (MMPI-3) is a broadband clinical instrument used to assess a wide array of self-reported psychological and behavioral difficulties within an established hierarchical structure. Examining the PCL-5 togethe…

Orthorexic Tendencies Are Associated with Autistic Traits in Patients with Borderline Personality Disorder.

Background/Objectives: Orthorexia Nervosa (ON), a condition marked by an obsessive focus on eating healthily, has drawn increasing clinical attention due to its rigid dietary patterns and social impairment. Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD), characterized by emotional dysregulation, impulsivity, and unstable interpersonal relationships, frequently co-occurs with eating disorders. Recent research suggests that autistic traits-such as cognitive rigidity and restricted interests-may underlie both ON and BPD, especially in female populations. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of orthor

Associate the Socio Demographic Variables with Drug Compliance and Quality of Life among Patients with Affective Disorders.

INTRODUCTION: Long-term affective disorders are characterized by poor illness comprehension, low treatment adherence, high relapse rates, severe impairment, and psychosocial dysfunction. While complex treatments for depressive disorders are available, more than 50% of patients don't adhere them. In addition to pharmacotherapy, enhancing medication adherence is crucial and beneficial for the bipolar illness treatment. Objectively measuring medication adherence is the first step to improving it. Non-adherence has been linked to several variables, although the data is inconsistent depending on pa

Protective and risk factors for STS among mental health professionals serving war refugees in Lithuania and Pakistan.

Background: Secondary Traumatic Stress (STS) is a significant concern among mental health professionals working with traumatised populations, such as war refugees. However, limited research has explored the predictors of STS in different cultural contexts, particularly in Pakistan and Lithuania. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the protective and risk factors for STS among mental health professionals working with war refugees in Pakistan and Lithuania. Specifically, the study examined the roles of social support, marital status, agreeableness, and negative emotionality in predicting S

Association of OPRD1 Gene Variants with Changes in Body Weight and Psychometric Indicators in Patients with Eating Disorders.

Objectives: This study aimed to investigate whether genetic variations in the OPRD1 gene affect psychopathological symptoms and personality dimensions in eating disorders (ED) patients and/or contribute to ED risk. Methods: The study involved 221 female patients with anorexia nervosa (AN), 88 with bulimia nervosa (BN), and 396 controls. Sixteen tag-single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in OPRD1 were identified. Psychometric evaluations were conducted using the Symptom Checklist 90 Revised (SCL-90R) and the Eating Disorders Inventory Test-2 (EDI-2). p-values obtained by regression models were

Parental attitudes and intensification of borderline personality traits: the mediational role of self-control and identity integration.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this paper is to analyze the relationship between parental attitudes, selfcontrol, identity integration, and traits of borderline personality disorder (BPD) in a non-clinical sample of adults. Additionally, it will examine the role of self-control and identity integration as direct predictors of BPD, and as potential mediators of the association between parental attitudes and BPD traits. METHODS: The study involved a group of 162 adults drawn from the general population. The study participants were asked to complete the Questionnaire of Retrospective Assessment of Paren

Treatment-Resistant Mood Disorders in LGBTQ People: A Retrospective Study of Clinical Features and Response to Electroconvulsive Therapy.

Objective: Individuals who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer (LGBTQ) experience greater social exclusion and discrimination and higher rates of depression. Little is known about the clinical characteristics or treatment outcomes of LGBTQ people with severe mood disorders. We hypothesized that LGBTQ patients would present with distinct clinical features and that they might respond less favorably to electroconvulsive therapy (ECT). Methods: We performed a retrospective chart review (2018-2020) of 59 LGBTQ patients and 441 non-LGBTQ patients who received an acute ECT serie

Resilience as a predictor of quality of life in participants with borderline personality disorder before and after treatment.

BACKGROUND: Studies have suggested that psychotherapy improves the Quality of Life (QoL) of participants with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). However, there are no studies on the differential efficacy of treatments on the QoL of participants with BPD. Moreover, the relationship between QoL and resilience has rarely been studied in participants with BPD. OBJECTIVES: a) to examine whether people with BPD have worse QoL than the non-clinical population; b) to examine whether there are statistically significant differences between Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Systems Training for

Reinforcement sensitivity and bulimia symptoms: the role of emotion regulation.

OBJECTIVE: Reinforcement Sensitivity Theory (RST) provides a theoretical foundation associated with various approach and avoidance behaviors and individual personality differences. Sensitivity to reward and punishment, two neural systems within the RST have been significantly associated with bingeing and purging behaviors. However, inconsistent findings are observed and specific factors mediating these relationships are not well understood. Deficits in emotion regulation may account for these relationships, as both negative urgency and distress tolerance have been independently associated with

How significant is the assessment of the DSM-5 'anxious distress' specifier in patients with major depressive disorder without comorbid anxiety disorders in the continuation/maintenance phase?

OBJECTIVE: Anxious distress (ANXD), which is common in major depressive disorder (MDD), is associated with poor outcomes. We investigated clinical characteristics of MDD patients with the DSM-5 ANXD specifier and only mild residual symptoms without comorbid anxiety disorders in the continuation/maintenance phase. METHODS: We recruited 110 outpatients with MDD without comorbid anxiety disorders. They were interviewed; the presence of the DSM-5 ANXD specifier was assessed. They completed the Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology (QIDS), the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (S-EPQ), the

Similar but Different: Psychological and Psychopathological Features of Primary and Secondary Hikikomori.

Recently, there has been an increase in reports of hikikomori around the globe, and Ukraine is not an exception. The development of hikikomori is often spurred by a history of aversive or traumatic childhood experience, for example, dysfunctions between parents or between a parent and a child (ambivalent attachment) and difficulties at school (peer rejection). Previously described models of hikikomori development mostly were based on research of mixed cohorts of patients (with and without psychiatric comorbidity). To test whether there was a difference in psychological and psychopathological f
