Three infants, 1 girl aged 10 months and 2 boys aged 2 and 4 months, presented with a discharging umbilicus directly or shortly after birth. The early responses of cat retinal ganglion cells to axotomy have been examined using neurofibrillar and Nissl-stained wholemounts. We were interested to learn whether the enhanced neurofilament expression, seen in a number of neuronal systems, was also present in different neuronal populations of the cat retina and could be used to study the distribution of these cells. Chyluria is a common presentation of filariasis in developing countries and mostly affects economically poor classes. The judicious use of investigations is mandatory to keep the cost of treatment acceptable. In the current study the argyrophil staining technique for NOR proteins (Ag-NORs) has been performed on cases of different endometrial lesions, trying to find an aid in differentiating atypical hyperplasia from well differentiated carcinoma in biopsy specimens. We conclude that the Ag-NOR count, even though in endometrial carcinoma is significantly exceeding that of atypical hyperplastic endometrium, could be a misleading discriminator, because of a wide overlap of values in individual cases.

Silver-stained nucleolar organiser regions (AgNORs) were studied in 10 hyperplastic, 5 intra-epithelial neoplastic and 30 malignant prostatic lesions. Total AgNOR counts and types were compared with histological features. The total AgNOR count per nucleus was significantly higher (P less than 0.05) in prostatic intra-epithelial neoplasia (PIN) and adenocarcinoma compared with prostatic hyperplasia. Three patients with superior limbic keratoconjunctivitis (SLK) were treated by conjunctival resection. The results of immunological studies and histological examination of the excised tissue were unremarkable; none of seven criteria of antibody dependence were met. We found no specific immune defects in three patients with superior limbic keratoconjunctivitis.

Stains frequently performed to exclude infectious etiologies in esophagitis include Grocott methenamine silver (GMS) and periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) as well as immunohistochemistry (IHC) assays for cytomegalovirus (CMV) and herpes simplex virus (HSV). Epistaxis is a common emergency, and its main causes are hypertensive crisis and trauma. Nasal packing is the primary treatment.
