OBJECTIVES: Advances in endoscopy and lasers have improved surgical management of chronic nasolacrimal duct obstruction. This is a preliminary comparison between standard and laser assisted endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR).
STUDY DESIGN: Combined retrospective and prospective study.
SETTING: Tertiary referral hospital.

PURPOSE: To examine the histologic and ultrastructural features of human corneas after successful laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK).
METHODS: Corneas from 48 eyes of 25 postmortem patients were processed for histology and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The 25 patients had LASIK between 3 months and 7 years prior to death. We present a case of late traumatic flap dislocation 47 months after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK). This is the latest reported case of traumatic LASIK flap dislocation to date. The patient was examined 5 days after being struck in the face and found to have a flap dislocation. The flap was repositioned surgically, and postoperatively the patient had 20/20 visual acuity and no visual complaints.

A 60-year-old Asian man presented with left rubeotic glaucoma secondary to a central retinal vein occlusion. He was successfully treated with laser diode cyclophotocoagulation of the ciliary body. Nine months later he developed right progressive visual loss, headache, corneal oedema, anterior chamber cells, flare, mutton fat keratic precipitates, a swollen disc, and a minimal inferior visual field defect. A diagnosis of sympathetic ophthalmia was made, which was confirmed by characteristic findings seen on fluorescein and indocyanine green angiography.
