Adipose tissue distribution and metabolic profile of young individuals with turner syndrome.

OBJECTIVE: Turner syndrome (TS) is the most common sex chromosome abnormality in females. Incidence of cardiometabolic complications is high in TS. Obesity and high visceral adiposity (VA) are additional risk factors. Body mass index (BMI) is not the best index of adiposity in TS due to short stature. Dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) scan and bioelectrical impedance (BI) could be alternatives. The primary objective is to evaluate alternative methods for body composition assessment in youth with TS. The secondary goal is to characterize body composition and metabolic profiles of youth wit

Exploring menstrual poverty and its impact on adolescent mental health.

BACKGROUND: Menstrual poverty (MP) defines the lack of access to menstrual health management (MHM) due to financial barriers, and there are limited data regarding its effects on youth mental health. The purpose of this study was to assess MHM practices among adolescents, determine the prevalence of MP according to socioeconomic status and examine its association with depressive symptoms (DS). METHODS: We conducted a survey on a nationally drawn sample (N = 1241) of adolescents aged 10-19 years. Data were collected from 12 provinces, which were classified into three (Tiers 5-6 having the lowes

The association between premenstrual symptom severity and eating disorder: Mediation by food addiction and emotional eating, moderation by irrational beliefs.

Severe premenstrual symptoms (PS) have been linked to emotional eating (EE) and binge eating. The purpose of this study was to examine whether EE, dietary restraint, and/or food addiction (FA) mediated the relationship between PS and the odds of screening positive for an eating disorder. The role of irrational beliefs (IB), which can lead to dysfunctional emotional and/or behavioral responses, was examined as a potential moderator. 600 women (mean age = 26.6 ± 0.2 years) who had menstruated at least twice in the previous year completed online questionnaires. Methods to screen out automated ("b

Association between different types of school bullying and premenstrual disorders: A cross-sectional analysis of 10,042 girls.

BACKGROUND: School bullying is associated with premenstrual disorders (PMDs) in adulthood, but its relationship with PMDs in adolescent girls needs further investigation. METHODS: We analyzed 10,042 menstruating girls for PMDs using the modified version of Calendar of Premenstrual Experiences and the Delaware Bullying Victimization Scale-Student for school bullying. Multivariable logistic regression revealed the associations between school bullying and PMDs, including premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and more severe form - premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). Besides, we performed stratified an

Texture Analysis of Uterine-Derived T2-Weighted Imaging in Patients With Primary Dysmenorrhea Across Different Menstrual Phases.

PURPOSE: Primary dysmenorrhea (PDM) affects 45%-95% of menstruating women. However, the mechanism of PDM is still unclear; abnormal uterine structure may be one of the causes of PDM. But the subtle structural changes of the uterus during the menstrual phase cannot be seen by the naked eye. Here, we perform magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) texture analysis to precisely quantify the subtle changes of the uterus in patients with PDM. METHODS: Fifty-one patients with PDM and 49 healthy controls (HCs) underwent pelvic MRI during the menstrual and periovulatory phases and were included in this stud

Minimally important difference and responsiveness to change for numerical rating scale of menstrual pain severity: a psychometric study.

BACKGROUND: Menstrual pain affects 45%-95% of reproductive-age females and increases the risk of other chronic pain conditions. Psychometrically sound measurement tools are essential for advancing research and clinical care in menstrual pain. Numerical rating scales (NRS) are widely used to measure pain severity. However, the minimally important difference (MID) and responsiveness to change of the NRS in the context of menstrual pain are not well understood. Understanding MID and responsiveness to change helps guide the evaluation of treatment efficacy and clinical decision-making. This study

Heavy Menstrual Bleeding in Women Treated with Direct Oral Anticoagulants: Results of the Prospective HEMBLED Registry.

BACKGROUND: Heavy menstrual bleeding (HMB) is a common complication of anticoagulant therapy in menstruating women with venous thromboembolism (VTE). Direct oral anticoagulants (DOAC) used for VTE treatment may differ in their menstrual bleeding profiles. Therefore, the prospective multicenter noninterventional investigator-initiated HEMBLED registry (HE: avy M: enstrual BLE: eding in patients treated with D: OAC) was performed to analyze spontaneous menstrual bleeding in women treated with therapeutic DOAC doses. METHODS: A modified pictorial blood assessment chart (PBAC) score was used to d
