PURPOSE: Our goal was to characterize the MR features of orbital Wegener granulomatosis (WG).
METHOD: Twelve patients with pathologically proven WG were studied with MRI. Enhanced and unenhanced T1-weighted sequences with conventional and fat-suppressed techniques were used. T2-weighted images were also obtained. Signal intensity measurements were made in each orbital lesion on the T2-weighted images and compared with that of normal fat. The degree of enhancement was also evaluated by measuring the change in signal intensity of each lesion between the unenhanced and enhanced studies.

We present the first reported case of vision loss due to tension orbital emphysema associated with tension pneumocephalus resulting from blunt trauma. In the setting of trauma, intraorbital air indicates paranasal sinus-orbital communication. Foreign body removal in blind, penetrating craniocerebral injuries, especially those involving craniobasal localization, could entail additional brain trauma risk. Under such conditions one can use surgical approaches for tumor removal or clipping of intracranial aneurysms. In this report, we present a case of blind, penetrating craniofacial injury in which a supraorbital-pterion approach for foreign body removal was used. Craniography, carotid angiography, and computed tomography data, including three-dimensional imaging, were taken into consideration while planning the operation.

The potential of CT to facilitate preoperative planning of reconstructive maxillofacial surgery by orbital volume quantification was analysed in 11 patients with traumatic enophthalmos as a late sequela of zygomatic fractures. The authors report a series of 21 cases of spheno-orbital "en plaque" meningiomas operated on between 1981 and 1993. In general the posttraumatic enophthalmos results from an enlargement of the orbit mainly in its dorsal part. The surgical correction must be performed in this particular part and calvarian bone grafts are very suitable for the procedure. In 20 patients the aesthetic appearance could significantly be approved. Anyhow functional aspects, mainly the binocular vision, must not be neglected.

A retrospective CT study of 10 patients with histologically proven orbital hydatid disease revealed unilateral homogeneous unilocular cysts which were hypodense when compared to the vitreous humour in seven patients and hyperdense in three patients. Orbital bone thinning was detected in six patients. The hyperdense hydatid lesions may mimic other more common soft tissue orbital tumours.

BACKGROUND: Primary orbital involvement in non-African Burkitt's lymphoma does not occur frequently but when it occurs children are mostly affected.
PATIENT AND METHOD: A 83-year-old woman with a primary manifestation of non-African Burkitt's lymphoma in the orbit was presented in our out-patient department.
RESULTS: After radiation therapy no recurrence after 6 months.
CONCLUSION: To our knowledge, this is the first reported adult patient with definite primary involvement of the orbit in non-African Burkitt's lymphoma.
