The case to augment healthcare professional training for the treatment of obesity by integrating cognitive dissonance interventions to reduce weight stigma.

Obesity is associated with risk for chronic health problems and increased mortality. Weight stigma, which entails negative attitudes and behaviors directed at people based solely on their body size, is psychologically harmful and contributes to obesity and obesity-related health problems. Yet, weight stigma is pervasive in society and commonly experienced by patients in healthcare settings, which lowers the quality of patients' healthcare experiences. Healthcare providers and trainees report feeling underprepared to treat obesity, which may lead to overreliance on weight-management strategies

Characterization of Anticholinergic Medication Use and Its Associations With Everyday Memory Problems and Cognitive Decline in Autistic Adults With Higher Support Needs.

Among older adults in the general population, medications with anticholinergic (AC) effects are associated with declines in cognitive functioning and with dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Autistic people have high rates of co-occurring medical conditions and polypharmacy across the lifespan; thus, they may be at particularly high risk of exposure to AC medications and their negative impacts on cognitive functioning, including earlier in adulthood. Consistent with this, a single study has shown AC medication use is prevalent among autistic adults without co-occurring intellectual disability an

Neurobehavioral Profiles and Clinical Consequences of MYT1L-Related Neurodevelopmental Disorder: Insights from the Brain Gene Registry.

MYT1L-Related Neurodevelopmental Disorder (MYT1L-NDD) is a rare autosomal dominant syndrome characterized by intellectual disability, global developmental delay, autism, and obesity. Despite growing recognition, prospective and systematic clinical phenotyping remains limited. Here, we analyzed data from 20 individuals with MYT1L variants enrolled in the Brain Gene Registry (BGR), a national platform integrating genetic, neurobehavioral, and clinical data. Neurobehavioral assessments were conducted using the Rapid Neurobehavioral Assessment Protocol (RNAP), including virtual adaptations of the

ADHD-inattentive versus ADHD-Combined subtypes: A severity continuum or two distinct entities? A comprehensive analysis of clinical, cognitive and neuroimaging data.

The current study aimed to explore the multimodal differences between the inattentive ADHD (ADHD-I) subtype and the combined ADHD (ADHD-C) subtype. A large sample of medication-naïve children with pure ADHD (i.e., without any comorbidity) (145 with ADHD-I, 132 with ADHD-C) and healthy controls (n = 98) were recruited. A battery of multiple scales and cognitive tests were utilized to assess the clinical and cognitive profiles of each individual. In addition, structural and diffusion magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were acquired for 120 subjects with ADHD and 85 controls. Regional gray matter v

Predictive validity for the clinical diagnosis of a new parent questionnaire, the CABI, compared with CBCL.

BACKGROUND: The questionnaires completed by the parents give a first general information on the behavioral problems of the child-adolescent, as a useful orientation to the clinical evaluation. The Child and Adolescent Behavior Inventory (CABI) is a 75-item parent questionnaire, which explores a large number of problem areas. The study of its predictive validity for the clinical diagnosis, in comparison with the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM)-oriented scales of the Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL), can assess whether its use may be advantageous. Is exposure to family member incarceration during childhood linked to diabetes in adulthood? Findings from a representative community sample.

OBJECTIVES: Diabetes is a prevalent and serious public health problem, particularly among older adults. A robust literature has shown that adverse childhood experiences contribute to the development of health problems in later life, including diabetes. Family member incarceration during childhood is an under-investigated yet increasingly common adverse childhood experience in the United States. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between family member incarceration during childhood and diabetes in adulthood, while considering the role of gender as well as the impact o

A long-term care center interdisciplinary education program for antipsychotic use in dementia: program update five years later.

BACKGROUND: While antipsychotic (AP) medications are frequently used in long-term care, current evidence suggests that the risks may offset the benefits, necessitating periodic reassessment of their use. The aims of this present study were: (1) to assess rates of AP use five years after our first intervention to determine the long-term impact; and (2) to implement an updated AP reduction educational intervention program at the same center five years later in order to determine whether AP use could be further reduced. METHODS: Participants were residents with dementia receiving AP medication.

Transition planning for youth with sickle cell disease: embedding neuropsychological assessment into comprehensive care.

OBJECTIVE: Sickle cell disease (SCD) conveys a high risk of neuropsychological impairment due to chronic anemia, hypoxemia, cerebrovascular ischemia and stroke, in addition to causing pain and other biomedical complications. Few families accessed neuropsychological testing via the traditional referral system. In this paper, we describe a successful alternative strategy for addressing cognitive and behavioral needs of youth with SCD. METHOD: The Sickle Cell Disease Program for Learning and Neuropsychological Evaluation (SCD-PLANE) was embedded in 2007 into the SCD Comprehensive Clinic of Child

Depression in older adults.

Depression is less prevalent among older adults than among younger adults, but it can have serious consequences. More than half of cases represent a first onset in later life. Although suicide rates in the elderly are declining, they are still higher than in younger adults and are more closely associated with depression. Depressed older adults are less likely to endorse affective symptoms and more likely to display cognitive changes, somatic symptoms, and loss of interest than are depressed younger adults. Risk factors leading to the development of late-life depression likely comprise complex
