PURPOSE: Perianal fistulas, and specifically high perianal fistulas, remain a surgical treatment challenge. Many techniques have, and still are, being developed to improve outcome after surgery. Spontaneous rupture of the esophagus (Boerhaave's syndrome) is a critical disease. Most patients should undergo surgery for primary closure and drainage of the mediastinum and thorax. We treated a total of 7 cases of spontaneous rupture of the esophagus between December 2000 and August 2007. The time delay was 3 hours to 4 days (mean 16.7 hours) and the length of longitudinal tears ranged from 3 to 10cm (mean: 5.6cm). All cases underwent pedicled omental flap repair to reinforce the suture line. We introduced our technique by pedicled omental flap for successful treatment.

Etanercept (Enbrel) is a drug targeted against tumor necrosis factor-α, which is increasingly being used in treatment of a variety of autoimmune disorders. Results of the immune-enzyme assay (IEA) of children with liver and lung echinococcosis before and after the operation were analyzed. We present a case of the successful repair of an iatrogenic central vein lesion using a videothoracoscopic approach. The confluence of the right innominate vein and the superior vena cava was perforated during the placement of a right internal jugular vein long-term dialysis catheter. The misplacement of the tips of the catheter in the right pleural space was promptly observed. We retrospectively reviewed our experience with catamenial pneumothorax (CP) in terms of treatment and follow-up. From 1993 to 2008, ten women presented at our department with CP. Primary sarcomas of the pleura are rare intrathoracic tumours. We describe a case of a recurring myxoid pleural sarcoma in a 51-year-old male patient with coronary heart disease, who initially was admitted for coronary revascularization surgery. Tumour diagnosis was based on pathological examination of a biopsy after radiological detection of a nodule in the right upper lobe. The nodule was excised.
