Cortical grey matter volume differences in children with developmental coordination disorder compared to typically developing children.

INTRODUCTION: The cause of Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) is unknown, but neuroimaging evidence suggests that DCD may be related to altered brain development. Children with DCD show less structural and functional connectivity compared to typically developing (TD) children, but few studies have examined cortical volume in children with DCD. The purpose of this study was to investigate cortical grey matter volume using voxel-based morphometry (VBM) in children with DCD compared to TD children. METHODS: This cross-sectional study was part of a larger randomized-controlled trial (Clini

Gestational diabetes is associated with alteration on pelvic floor muscle activation pattern during pregnancy and postpartum: Prospective cohort using electromyography assessment.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a comorbidity which may cause acute and lifelong disorders to mother and child. Alterations in muscular and connective tissues have been associated with GDM in translation studies, characterizing gestational diabetic myopathy. Pregnancy-specific urinary incontinence and sexual disabilities, disorders that depend on the pelvic floor muscle (PFM) integrity, are also associated with GDM both during and after pregnancy. The aim was to compare PFM activation patterns between GDM and non-GDM women from 24-30 gestational weeks to 18-24

Diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging in cancer: Reported apparent diffusion coefficients, in-vitro and in-vivo reproducibility.

There is considerable disparity in the published apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values across different anatomies. Institutions are increasingly assessing repeatability and reproducibility of the derived ADC to determine its variation, which could potentially be used as an indicator in determining tumour aggressiveness or assessing tumour response. In this manuscript, a review of selected articles published to date in healthy extra-cranial body diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging is presented, detailing reported ADC values and discussing their variation across different studies

Impact of limited intramedullary reaming versus unreamed technique in short proximal femoral nail anti-rotation for intertrochanteric fractures: a matched retrospective study.

PURPOSE: Short proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA) fixation is commonly performed for intertrochanteric fractures and is typically inserted without reaming. However, limited reaming may be required in cases of a narrow femoral canal, severe femoral bowing, or inadvertent selection of an oversized nail. Unlike long nails, reaming for short PFNA is confined to the isthmus, and its effects have not been well described. This study aimed to evaluate the association between limited reaming during short PFNA fixation and clinical outcomes. METHODS: We conducted a retrospective matched cohort s

Carpal Tunnel Release with Ultrasound Guidance Versus Open and Mini-Open Carpal Tunnel Release: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Randomized Controlled Trials.

PURPOSE: Carpal tunnel release (CTR) can be performed using several techniques, including traditional open CTR, mini-open CTR, endoscopic CTR (ECTR), and CTR with ultrasound guidance (CTR-US). Carpal tunnel release with ultrasound guidance allows the procedure to be performed through a small, nonpalmar incision while maintaining visualization of critical anatomy and may confer benefits in terms of early recovery and incision-related complications. The objective of this study was to compare CTR-US with traditional open or mini-open CTR based on evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs).

Integrated Boost vs. Sequential Scheme in Volumetric Modulated Arc Therapy (VMAT) for Trimodal Bladder Cancer Therapy: A Comparative Study.

Background Trimodal therapy (TMT), combining transurethral resection of the bladder tumor, radiotherapy, and concurrent chemotherapy, is an established bladder-preserving approach for muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). Advances in radiotherapy, such as volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), have enabled the use of different dose delivery schemes, namely simultaneous integrated boost (SIB) and sequential boost (SEQ) techniques. This study aimed to compare dosimetric outcomes, organ-at-risk sparing, and treatment tolerance between these two VMAT schemes. Methods Fourteen patients with MIBC

Early Concepts in CT Image-Guided Robotic Vascular Surgery: The Displacement of Retroperitoneal Structures During Simulated Procedures in a Cadaveric Model.

BACKGROUND: CT image guidance and navigation, although routinely used in complex endovascular procedures, is an unexplored territory in evolving vascular robotic procedures. In robotic surgery, it promises the better localization of vasculature, the optimization of port placement, less inadvertent tissue damage, and increased patient safety during the dissection of retroperitoneal structures. However, unknown tissue displacement resulting from induced pneumoperitoneum and positional changes compared to the preoperative CT scan can pose significant limitations to the reliability of image guidan

Clinical application of eight-zone laparoscopic dissection strategy for rectal cancer: Experience and discussion.

BACKGROUND: The incidence of rectal cancer is increasing worldwide, and surgery remains the primary treatment modality. With the advent of total mesorectal excision (TME) technique, the probability of tumor recurrence post-surgery has significantly decreased. Surgeons' focus has gradually shifted towards minimizing the impact of surgery on urinary and sexual functions. Among these concerns, the optimal dissection of the rectal lateral ligaments and preservation of the pelvic floor neurovascular bundle have become critical. To explore the optimal surgical technique for TME and establish a stand

Detection Rate of Fetal Anomalies in Early Mid-Trimester Compared to Late Mid-Trimester Detailed Scans: Possible Implications for First-Trimester Sonography.

Objective: A late mid-trimester fetal organ scan (lMTS) is recommended between 18 and 22 weeks of pregnancy. Evidence has been accumulating on the effectiveness of first-trimester anatomy scans. Early mid-trimester fetal scans (eMTSs; 14-17 weeks) may have the advantage of visualization of most organs, hence allowing earlier genetic assessment and decision making. Our aim is to examine the effectiveness of eMTSs in identifying fetal anomalies compared to lMTSs. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted based on data from the multidisciplinary prenatal diagnosis clinic in a tertiary center.

A propensity score matching analysis of gasless endoscopic transaxillary thyroidectomy with five-settlement technique versus conventional open thyroidectomy in patients with papillary thyroid microcarcinoma.

BACKGROUND: In a previous study, we proposed a novel anatomy-based five-settlement method for transaxillary endoscopic thyroidectomy (fs-TAT) for patients with papillary thyroid carcinoma. The safety of this new method has been reported in a retrospective study of a single cohort. The safety and short-term oncological outcome of this method was confirmed by comparing it with conventional open surgery (COT) in patients with papillary thyroid microcarcinoma. METHODS: The medical records of patients who underwent fs-TAT or COT by a single surgeon from February 2019 to December 2021 were reviewed
