InSafeLOCK intramedullary nailing versus plate fixation for humeral diaphyseal fractures: a retrospective cohort study with 24-month outcomes.

OBJECTIVE: This study evaluated, in humeral diaphyseal fractures, how the InSafeLOCK intramedullary nail (IMN) compares with limited-contact dynamic compression plating (LC-DCP) in terms of radiologic and functional outcomes. The InSafeLOCK incorporates an internal, unicortical distal-locking feature intended to streamline distal fixation and potentially reduce neurovascular risk; however, its clinical performance has not previously been directly compared with conventional plating. METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 93 adults who underwent surgery for humeral diaphyseal fractures between Jan

Ultra-distal tibial fractures: a retrospective comparison of distal plate versus nail fixation.

BACKGROUND: Current literature on ultra-distal tibial fractures (UDTF) is relatively limited, particularly regarding the outcomes and complications of different treatment strategies, with data being notably scarce. This study aimed to compare the clinical outcomes of intramedullary nailing (IMN) and distal tibial plate (DTP) fixation in the treatment of UDTF. METHODS: A total of 48 eligible patients were retrospectively reviewed and divided into two matched groups based on age, gender, injury severity score, and fracture type. The IMN group comprised 21 patients, and the DTP group included 27

Surgical Techniques for Displaced Radial Neck Fractures: Predictive Factors of Functional Results.

BACKGROUND: Fractures of the radial neck represent about 1% of all childhood fractures and 5% to 10% of childhood traumatic lesions involving the elbow. Management of these fractures in children is still controversial. Intramedullary percutaneous nail reduction (Métaizeau technique) is considered the most effective surgical technique because of its excellent results and easy learning curve. Complications may arise, however, especially in Böhler technique, in which a percutaneous pin is placed over the radial head. When this technique does not provide correct reduction, open reduction must be p

Long endomedullary nail in proximal third humeral shaft fractures.

INTRODUCTION: Proximal humeral fractures with a spiral line of fracture extending from the humeral head to the diaphyseal region are increasing. Treatment for these fractures is comparable to that for shaft fractures. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the use of a new "Long" humeral nail for this type of lesion and identify the best distal locking. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Forty-three patients treated with a Long Diphos Nail® were selected for this study: main exclusion criteria were poor cognitive and responsive ability to physical therapy, four-part fracture requiring humeral head rep

Less invasive percutaneous wave plating of simple femur shaft fractures: A prospective series.

In developing nations, fixation of femoral shaft fractures with intramedullary (IM) nails can pose significant challenges. Use of IM implants is commonly limited by availability, funds or patient's physique. Conversely, traditional compression plates are usually readily available at a much lower cost, making bridge plating of femur fractures a frequently used surgical technique. We hypothesised that less invasive percutaneous plate osteosynthesis (MIPPO) of femoral shaft fractures has a similar outcome compared to IM nailing. The study is designed as a prospective case series at a Level 1 univ

CT-based micromotion analysis for tracking fracture displacement and fragment movement in trochanteric hip fractures: an agreement study.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: 2-dimensional radiographs may underestimate 3-dimensional fracture displacement. CT-based micromotion analysis (CTMA) enables precise quantification of interfragmentary movement in 3 dimensions. We aimed to evaluate CTMA for quantifying fracture displacement, surgical reduction, and postoperative fragment movement in trochanteric hip fractures, and assessed measurement agreement from repeated follow-up scans. METHODS: We conducted a prospective cohort study including 15 patients with trochanteric fractures treated with a cephalomedullary nail at Uppsala University Hosp
