[Alzheimer's disease and pharmacists in contact with the public].

All healthcare professionals are concerned by Alzheimer's disease, which in France will affect, in just a few years, over one million persons, mainly women. Pharmacists have shown particular interest, irrespective of their sector of activity. Here, we wanted to better define the role of colleagues who are constantly in contact with the public, i.e. in France in drug dispensaries and biology laboratories. Within the framework of the French pharmacy committee for health and social education, Cespharm, the Ethics and Communications working group of the 2008-2012 Alzheimer Disease Committee headed

Improving support and planning ahead for older people with learning disabilities and family carers: a mixed-methods study.

BACKGROUND: People with learning disabilities are living longer. Despite government policy to encourage people to lead supported lives in their community, family carers often maintain support due to dissatisfaction with services. This can lead to people moving from the family home in a crisis. OBJECTIVES: (1) Find out what is known about health needs and resources for older people with learning disabilities (aged ≥ 40 years); (2) identify exemplars of good services for older people with learning disabilities; (3) explore service exemplars through ethnographic case studies; (4) evaluate suppor

High sensitivity but low specificity of the risk factors and symptoms questionnaire in diagnosing female genital schistosomiasis among sexually active women with genital lesions in selected villages of Maswa District, North-Western Tanzania.

BACKGROUND: The diagnosis of Female Genital Schistosomiasis (FGS) which is a clinical feature of urogenital schistosomiasis caused by Schistosoma haematobium is challenging, especially in primary healthcare facilities characterized by low resources which are dependent by the majority of the FGS endemic communities. To facilitate and improve diagnosis in these settings, a simple risk factors and symptoms tool has been developed to help healthcare workers at primary healthcare facilities identify and manage FGS cases. However, the sensitivity and specificity of the tool are not known. Therefore,

Barriers and facilitators to using an app-based tool for suicide safety planning in a psychiatric emergency department: A qualitative descriptive study using the Theoretical Domains Framework and COM-B model.

BACKGROUND: Emergency departments (EDs) play a crucial role in suicide prevention, with evidenced-based safety planning interventions (SPI) playing an important role. Traditional safety plans, which are often paper based, come with challenges (i.e., not easily accessible, or easy to misplace). Digital safety planning tools offer an alternative mode of intervention delivery, but clinical implementation remains limited. Using behavioural change frameworks, we aim to provide insights into the factors influencing app adoption. These insights will be used as a knowledge base to design behavior chan

Building resilient and response-ready influenza vaccination programs for pandemic preparedness: a comparative analysis from five middle-income countries.

UNLABELLED: Influenza vaccination programs are critical in reducing the morbidity and mortality from seasonal influenza and bolstering pandemic preparedness. However, there is a notable lack of information about the factors contributing to resilient and response-ready influenza vaccination programs in middle-income countries (MICs). This study set out to identify determinants of resilient and response-ready seasonal influenza vaccination programs in MICs. METHODS: This study used a collective case study design to analyze structural and programmatic elements of resiliency and response-readines

Do not attempt cardiopulmonary resuscitation practice and policy in Ireland: a mixed-methods study of service user and advocacy group perspectives.

BACKGROUND: Cardiopulmonary resuscitation offers the potential to save a person's life. However, this highly invasive medical treatment is not always appropriate, and the likelihood of success is relatively low. In Ireland, the Health Service Executive (HSE) National Consent Policy establishes the national guidance in respect of DNACPR decisions, and this was supplemented by HSE Guidance Regarding Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and DNAR Decision-Making during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Previous research on DNACPR practice in Ireland concentrated on the perspective of the medical and nursing profess

Telenursing on primary family caregivers and children with disabilities: a scoping review.

INTRODUCTION: Despite the need for continued support for children with disabilities and their families, COVID-19 has made the support difficult. Telenursing can monitor daily life and support from a remote location, continuously and at a low cost. However, there are few practical reports on its use in children with disabilities. OBJECTIVE: This scoping review aims to summarize the published literature on telenursing for children with disabilities in home care settings. METHODS: We included studies involving children (0-18 years of age) with disabilities and their families and specified telec

"If We Manage Early, We Can Get It Right": A Descriptive Study of Healthcare Workers' Experiences Managing Sepsis at a Kenyan Referral Hospital.

Background and objectives Sepsis and septic shock are conditions of high mortality across the globe. Despite the efforts of the Surviving Sepsis Campaign, improvements in outcomes for patients with sepsis and septic shock have been mostly seen in high-income countries (HICs), leaving low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) to bear most of the global disease burden. This paper utilizes a socio-ecological model to describe the lived experiences of local healthcare workers treating sepsis and septic shock at a large referral hospital in Western Kenya. These perspectives shed light on barriers an

Prevalence of human papilloma virus infection and risk of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia among female sex workers in Mumbai, India.

INTRODUCTION: Cervical cancer, mostly caused by human papilloma virus (HPV), has disproportionately high incidence in developing countries. HPV infection being essentially a sexually transmitted infection, high-risk behaviour women with multiple sexual contacts like female sex workers (FSWs) are at higher risk of co-infection with HPV and of developing cervical precancer and cancer. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to determine the prevalence and determinants of HPV infection and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) among FSWs in Mumbai, India. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted a

Strengthening the capacity of healthcare providers to administer intermittent preventive therapy for malaria in pregnancy in Nigeria using a quality improvement strategy.

BACKGROUND: Intermittent Preventive Therapy using Sulfadoxine Pyrimethamine (IPTp-SP) is a malaria control strategy to reduce cases of malaria in pregnancy in endemic countries. However, the administration of the recommended three doses of Intermittent Preventive Therapy (IPTp) throughout the stages of pregnancy still remains low in Nigeria. Limited knowledge by health workers on the administration of the recommended doses of IPTp to pregnant women receiving antenatal care (ANC) services is partly responsible for this gap. This study applied Quality Improvement (QI) approach to improve knowled

Prevalence and associated factors of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among a cohort of Srilankan post-partum mothers: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) usually follows a catastrophic event. However, the experience of child birth can be severe enough to cause PTSD in some women. The aim of this study is to highlight the prevalence of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder among a cohort of postpartum mothers. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in field clinics of a semi-urban area in Sri Lanka. A pre-tested interviewer administered checklist was used to collect socio-demographic and pregnancy related data. Pre-existing self-administered, validated Sinhalese versions of the Edinburgh Postna

Assessing and Listening to Individual Goals and Needs (ALIGN) versus enhanced usual care for hospitalized older patients with cancer discharged to skilled nursing facilities: Protocol for a pilot randomized controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Hospitalized older adults with malignant solid tumor cancer discharged to skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) are at high risk of being "rehabbed to death." These patients have high 6-month mortality, experience burdensome care transitions near the end of life, and have limited access to palliative care. The Assessing and Listening to Individual Goals and Needs (ALIGN) intervention aims to address unmet palliative care needs and leverages the skills of palliative care social workers (PCSWs) to support serious illness communication, decision-making, and caregiver needs. We report th

Seizing the moment: the potential of PrEP choice and innovation to transform HIV prevention.

INTRODUCTION: The potential of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), as a highly effective and empowering HIV prevention intervention, has not yet been realized. Despite the recent acceleration in the scale-up of oral PrEP, there is a substantial unmet PrEP need, and the world is not on track to meet the 2025 prevention targets. New PrEP products, and service delivery approaches, could support greater access, uptake, persistence and effective use. This commentary discusses how offering choice in PrEP products and service delivery innovations could transform global HIV prevention efforts. DISCUSSIO

Discordance between self-perceived and actual risk of HIV infection among men who have sex with men and transgender women in Thailand: a cross-sectional assessment.

INTRODUCTION: Low uptake of HIV testing and services, including pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), in Thai men who have sex with men (MSM) and transgender women (TGW) may be due to the inaccuracy in self-risk assessment. This study investigated the discordance between self-perceived HIV risk and actual risk. METHODS: Data were obtained between May 2015 and October 2016 from MSM and TGW enrolled in key population-led Test and Treat study in six community health centres in Thailand. Eligible participants were at least 18 years old, Thai national, had sex with men, had unprotected sex with a man i

Pre-treatment loss to follow-up and associated factors among drug-resistant tuberculosis patients diagnosed in Wakiso district, central Uganda.

BACKGROUND: Tuberculosis ranks among the top ten causes of death worldwide. The Sub-Saharan African region faces increasing trends of Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis (DR-TB), further complicating the existing efforts for prevention, control, and eradication. Pre-treatment loss to follow-up (LTFU) among diagnosed DR-TB patients also signifies a setback in the timely prevention of disease progression and transmission, especially in low-resource settings. This study assessed the magnitude of and factors associated with pre-treatment LTFU among DR-TB patients within Wakiso district, central Uganda. M

EUROPAEM EMF Guideline 2015 for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of EMF-related health problems and illnesses.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

Chronic diseases and illnesses associated with unspecific symptoms are on the rise. In addition to chronic stress in social and work environments, physical and chemical exposures at home, at work, and during leisure activities are causal or contributing environmental stressors that deserve attention by the general practitioner as well as by all other members of the health care community. It seems certainly necessary now to take "new exposures" like electromagnetic field (EMF) into account. Physicians are increasingly confronted with health problems from unidentified causes.
