OBJECTIVES: To define differences in pushrim dynamics during manual wheelchair propulsion by users with multiple sclerosis (MS) relative to 2 control groups of subjects with spinal cord injury (SCI) and no disability (ND) and to investigate changes in propulsion biomechanics at different speeds and with fatigue.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Non-melanoma skin cancers are the most common cause of cancer worldwide. Within this grouping, the most common skin cancer is basal cell carcinoma (BCC) followed by squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Recent evidence has shown that BCCs can be cleared by a pulsed-dye laser after multiple treatments using a single pass setting. Given the necessity for multiple treatments in the prior studies, we sought to determine whether tumor clearance could instead be achieved using a single treatment of the pulsed-dye laser in a stacked pulse setting.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the dynamic changes of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signal transduction in rats with severe acute pancreatitis (SAP).
METHODS: The SAP model was induced by infusing the bilio-pancreatic duct of 56 Sprague-Dawley rats with 5% sterile sodium taurocholate solution. : Using a dynamic HIV transmission model calibrated for six USA cities, we projected HIV incidence from 2020 to 2040 and estimated whether an established UNAIDS HIV epidemic control target could be met under ideal implementation of optimal combination strategies previously defined for each city. Four of six cities (Atlanta, Baltimore, New York City and Seattle) were projected to achieve epidemic control by 2040 and we identified differences in reaching epidemic control across racial/ethnic groups.

Botulinum toxin A has been used to treat a spectrum of neuromuscular diseases. In recent years, it has become an accepted treatment for dynamic facial wrinkles. Following treatment of glabella and forehead wrinkles with botulinum toxin A, 9 of 134 patients coincidentally reported improvement of tension-type headache. We have retrospectively studied this group of patients in whom improvement of facial wrinkles closely paralleled improvement of tension-type headache. This observation suggests a role for muscle action in tension-type headache and a novel treatment.
