The cDNA encoding a swelling-induced chloride conductance regulatory protein, plcln, was cloned from rabbit ciliary epithelium by using a polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based approach. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the efficacy of anterior retinal cryotherapy (ARC) for treatment of neovascular glaucoma (NVG).

Two patients presented with unilateral ciliary block angle closure glaucoma and bilateral pseudoexfoliation (PSX) syndrome and were treated successfully with posterior sclerotomy (one case), extracapsular cataract extraction and posterior chamber lens implantation. Color Doppler Imaging (CDI) is a recent development in ultrasonography, which can display simultaneously two dimensional images of structure and Doppler evaluation of blood flow. Using the technique, we examined 74 normal eyes. Oculo-oscillodynamography (OODG) after Ulrich was performed on 21 patients suffering from unilateral hemodynamically relevant carotid stenosis. In ten patients the perfusion pressure was low on the affected side. In the other eleven patients there was no difference between the two sides and these patients were thought to have well-developed collateral anastomoses. In nine patients with temporal arteriitis low perfusion pressure was found by OODG on the side with the lower visual acuity. After systemic therapy with corticosteroids the perfusion pressure normalized on both sides.

Inhibition of ciliary process adenylate cyclase was studied on rabbit membrane preparations. When considered individually, epinephrine, GTP and NaCl did not inhibit adenylate cyclase activity. On the other hand, when present together, epinephrine, GTP (10(-5) M) and NaCl (200 mM) acted synergistically to cause a 27% inhibition of basal activity. Greater optic nerve and visual field damage has been reported in eyes with primary open angle glaucoma that also have cilioretinal arteries compared with fellow eyes that do not have cilioretinal arteries. We studied 50 consecutive cases of severe penetrating ocular trauma with posterior segment involvement for which vitreous surgery and scleral buckling were performed as secondary reparative procedures. Eyes with a better prognosis, such as those with anterior segment injuries alone and intraocular foreign bodies, were excluded. Of 50 eyes, 31 (62%) had a successful outcome.
