Currently, there is a growing preference for convenience food products, such as ready-to-eat (RTE) foods, associated with long refrigerated shelf-lives, not requiring a heat treatment prior to consumption. Because Listeria monocytogenes is able to grow at refrigeration temperatures, inconsistent temperatures during production, distribution, and at consumer's household may allow for the pathogen to thrive, reaching unsafe limits. L. monocytogenes is the causative agent of listeriosis, a rare but severe human illness, with high fatality rates, transmitted almost exclusively by food consumption.

Candidatus Ornithobacterium hominis has been detected in nasopharyngeal microbiota sequence data from around the world. This report provides the first description of culture conditions for isolating this bacterium. The availability of an easily reproducible culture method is expected to facilitate deeper understanding of the clinical significance of this species.

We present a 24-year-old female referred with non-healing wound of a few days duration on anterior aspect of her right foreleg. Biopsy of the wound was reported to be pyoderma gangrenosum on pathologic report. Further work up of the patient for high grade fever and occasional leukopenias revealed the diagnosis of cyclic neutropenia. Treatment with granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) resulted in patient's neutrophil counts correction and dramatic improvement in healing of her lower extremity wound.

We have developed a simple way to generate binary patterns based on spectral slopes in different frequency ranges at fluctuation-enhanced sensing.
