What does dementia mean to you? Perceptions of dementia and aging among Indigenous older adults living in a Pueblo community.

BACKGROUND: Alzheimer's disease (AD) and related dementias (ADRD) are a rapidly growing cause of morbidity and mortality in the United States, yet little is known about how these conditions are understood within American Indian (AI) communities. Limited alignment between biomedical models and community conceptualizations may hinder culturally appropriate care and research engagement. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore how aging and dementia are conceptualized among older adults in a Pueblo community, with the goal of informing culturally congruent dementia care, education, and research pr

From motor primitives to context-dependent coordination: a system neuroscience approach integrating cognitive, affective, and experiential factors into muscle synergy analysis.

Muscle synergies are traditionally viewed as stable, low-dimensional neuromuscular modules reflecting neural constraints. However, growing evidence suggests this mechanistic interpretation is incomplete. We propose a conceptual extension of the framework, arguing that coordination patterns reflected into multichannel EMG are emergent properties of an integrated cognitive-motor system rather than purely motor primitives. We identify three classes of non-motor factors that may shape motor output: (i) Task internalization and learning dynamics: synergy structure evolves with practice and the form

A Bayesian approach for exploring the effects of household income on self-reported mental health measures during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The relationship between income and mental health is well-established yet complex, as both can be confounded by age, gender, and other demographic factors. To clarify these dynamics, this study examines the effects of age and income on symptoms of depression and generalised anxiety across female and male genders during the COVID-19 pandemic in the UK. Data from Wave-1 and Wave-6 of the COVID-19 Psychological Research Consortium (C19PRC) study were analysed using Bayesian hierarchical ordered-logistic mediation models. Results showed that older age was linked to less depression and anxiety in b

A dense-sampling investigation of interoceptive variation across the menstrual cycle: the Cyclic Hormones and Interoception with Repeated Profiling (CHIRP) Study.

The menstrual cycle is associated with variation in psychological and sensory processing and can exert substantial influence on mental health. One process which may be impacted by hormonal fluctuations during the menstrual cycle is interoception - the process by which the nervous system senses, integrates, and models the internal state of the body. However, limited work has examined if and how interoception may change across the menstrual cycle and if these changes are associated with mental health outcomes. Additionally, outstanding questions surrounding the reliability and concordance of int

Shaped by the Industry: Female Fashion Models' Perceptions of Aesthetic Labour, Body Governance and Disordered Eating.

Female fashion models face intense bodily surveillance within a competitive and largely unregulated industry. While many young recruits endure the industry's initial demands, less is known about how these formative experiences are later interpreted. Grounded in feminist and phenomenological perspectives, this article presents an inductive analysis of 18 semi-structured interviews with female models aged 25+, exploring entry into modelling, socialization into industry norms, and longer-term effects on body image, eating attitudes, and embodied practices. Five interconnected themes were identifi

The Missing Conversation in Burn Care: Intimacy and Sexuality.

Intimacy and sexuality are essential components of quality of life after burn injury, yet they remain overlooked in burn survivorship care. Evidence demonstrates lasting declines in sexual satisfaction and relational well-being among burn survivors but discussions about these concerns are rarely initiated by providers and standardized approaches remain absent. Surveys of burn care professionals reveal widespread discomfort in addressing sexual health, despite consensus that patients should not be expected to initiate these conversations. In contrast, other specialties, including oncology and c

Role of interconnected resources in chronic pain among people of color: a psychological network analysis approach.

Chronic pain among people of color is influenced by biological, structural, and social forces. While network models have been applied to chronic pain symptoms, research on resource disparities often isolates factors such as income, failing to account for how these systemic resources interact as a dynamic system. Integrating Conservation of Resources theory with psychological network analysis, this study examined how interconnected patterns of resource loss and gain shape chronic pain experiences among a sample of 622 adults identifying as Black, Asian, or Latinx with chronic pain. Network mode

Examining the Relationship Between Identity Disturbance, Body Image Disturbance, and Eating Disorder Symptoms in Current and Partially Recovered Anorexia Nervosa Using Structural Equation Modelling.

OBJECTIVE: Theoretical models and empirical research suggest that identity plays a pivotal role in the development of anorexia nervosa (AN), however, limited research has been conducted on how identity is connected to the expression of eating disorder (ED) symptoms. One possible connecting mechanism is body image disturbance (BID). As such, the current study aimed to investigate the potential mediating role of BID between identity disturbance and ED symptoms in those with AN. METHOD: A sample of 178 women with self-reported current AN or partially recovered AN (with persistent psychological s

Clinical associations of pain in an international facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy cohort.

This study aims to characterize pain in patients with facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy (FSHD) and determine the interactions between pain and quality of life, mental health, and physical function. We analyzed data from the prospective, international, observational ReSolve study, with primary analyses focused on baseline assessments. Of 219 patients, 83% reported having pain at baseline, most commonly located in the lower back and shoulders. Most baseline characteristics did not differ significantly between patients with and without pain or between those with higher versus lower pain seve

Reversing the cognitive-emotional paradigm: Somatic Hypnotherapy and the primacy of bodily feelings.

Contemporary approaches to emotional healing have predominantly emphasized cognitive and top-down processes. However, many traditional healing systems across cultures have long recognized the primacy of embodied, somatic experience in the restoration of well-being. This Perspective proposes a reversed paradigm: that feeling differently leads to thinking and reacting differently. Somatic Hypnotherapy offers a coherent framework that bridges ancestral ritual healing traditions with contemporary affective neuroscience. It utilizes a precisely defined state of somatic hypnosis - characterized by e

A long shot? Affective temperaments predict adherence to pharmacotherapy during infertility treatment in a prospective longitudinal study.

INTRODUCTION: Research suggests that affective temperaments influence adherence to pharmacotherapy; however, this has not been investigated in infertility treatment. Our prospective longitudinal study assessed the impact of affective temperaments on medication adherence during infertility treatments. METHODS: 179 women presenting at an Assisted Reproduction Centre completed the Temperament Evaluation of Memphis, Pisa, Paris, and San Diego (TEMPS-A) questionnaire before treatment, and the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS) six months later. Univariate linear regression assessed whether
