Mental Health Professionals' Attitudes Towards People with Severe Mental Illness: Are they Related to Professional Quality of Life?

The present study examines whether attitudes of mental health professionals (MHPs) towards severe mental illness are associated with professional quality of life. The Attitudes towards Severe Mental Illness (ASMI), the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), and the Professional Quality of Life Scale-5 (ProQOL-5) were completed by 287 MHPs in Greece (25.4% males, 74.6% females). The results indicate that MHPs hold predominantly positive attitudes towards people with severe mental illness. Nonetheless, MHPs' attitudes are deemed to be stereotypical according to ASMI concerning treatment duration, pros

Social anxiety disorder and quality of life: How fears of negative and positive evaluation relate to specific domains of life satisfaction.

Individuals with social anxiety disorder (SAD) experience functional impairment in social, educational, and occupational arenas, contributing to poor quality of life. The present study was designed to investigate how fear of negative evaluation (FNE) and fear of positive evaluation (FPE) relate to the four QOLI domains among individuals with SAD. We also examined the relationships of

Mental states as part of countertransference responses in psychotherapists facing reports of traumatic events of mourning and sexual violence.

The study aims to compare the mental states and countertransference responses of 92 psychodynamically oriented psychotherapists, male and female, experienced and inexperienced, facing written reports of real patients who experienced traumatic events. Two vignettes were presented: one of a sexual violence, the other the sudden death of a significant person. The Mental States Rating System (MSRS; Bouchard, Picard, Audet, Brisson, & Carrier, 1998), the MSRS Self-Report (Goldfeld & Bouchard, 2004), and the Inventory of Countertransference Behavior (ICB; Friedman & Gelso, 2000) were used. A social adjustment enhancement intervention for high functioning autism, Asperger's syndrome, and pervasive developmental disorder NOS.

This paper reports the findings of a 20-week social adjustment enhancement curriculum for boys aged 8-12. The curriculum was designed to address three areas hypothesized to be deficient in persons with HFA, AS, and PDDNOS: emotion recognition and understanding; theory of mind; and executive functions/real life type problem solving. Parents attended a semi-structured concurrent psychoeducational training meeting during children's sessions. Statistically significant improvements in facial expression recognition, and problem solving were reported for intervention group children compared to waitin

PURPOSE OF THE STUDY: Charisma is a relational construct that may shape communication, leadership behavior, and team dynamics in healthcare settings. It remains unclear whether charisma profiles differ across residents' intended medical specialties. STUDY DESIGN: This study examined the association between intended specialty choice and charisma profiles among Japanese postgraduate residents using a cross-sectional, nationwide, web-based survey conducted between 18 January and 31 March 2024 after a national in-training examination. Of the 9179 postgraduate year one and two residents invited, 5

Psychometric Validation of the Bedford Alzheimer Nursing-Severity Scale in Community-Dwelling Persons With Severe Dementia.

OBJECTIVES: Measuring disease severity in persons with severe dementia is essential for clinical care and research. Most instruments encounter issues, for example floor effects in characterising persons with severe dementia. We aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Bedford Alzheimer Nursing-Severity Scale (BANS) and its short version, BANS-6, in community-dwelling persons with severe dementia. METHODS: We used baseline data from a multi-centre prospective longitudinal study. 215 caregivers of community-dwelling persons with severe dementia (≥ FAST stage 6c) were recruited (mean

Burnout and Career Calling Profiles Among Nurses: Associations With Nursing Work Environment and Missed Nursing Care.

BACKGROUND: Nurses are highly prone to burnout due to high pressure, heavy workloads, and emotional labor. Career calling has been associated with lower levels of burnout, but variable-centered studies have overlooked heterogeneous subgroups among nurses. OBJECTIVE: This person-centered study used latent profile analysis to jointly examine career calling and burnout, identify burnout-career calling profiles, and explore factors associated with these profiles and their associations with self-reported missed nursing care. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted from March to September 2

In-person interview versus online self-assessment of the eating disorder examination: an empirical validation of data equivalence.

PURPOSE: Online self-assessments in mental health are becoming increasingly common, and the COVID-19 pandemic has further accelerated the need for reliable digital tools. However, the degree of equivalence between online self-assessments and in-person interviews in the context of eating disorders remains under-researched. This study investigated the equivalence of adolescent patient responses on the Eating Disorder Examination (EDE) collected across these two modalities. METHODS: The EDE was administered in a cross-over test-retest design, both as an online self-assessment questionnaire and a

However, a few of our patients showed creative skills in new areas, and we tried to evaluate a possible neural substrate for this phenomenon. METHODS: Patients who attended the memory clinic of National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences between December 2016 and September 2018 were screened as per the inclusion and exclusion criteria. All mandatory investigations including complete neuropsychology workup were done. The Creativity Styles Questionnaire and Temperament

Unmasking the Environmental Costs of In-Person General Surgery Residency Interviews.

OBJECTIVE: As COVID-19 restrictions are eased, there has been a lively debate on whether residency recruitment interviews should be held virtually or in-person. However, environmental impact has rarely been a focus of this debate and only by inference from limited survey data. In this study, we aimed to estimate the carbon emissions generated from air-travel versus in-person interviews in the general surgery residency recruitment. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This was a cross-sectional study using interview data from the 2022-2023 surgical residency recruitment season from the Thalamus

Do caregivers of traumatic brain injury survivors experience post-traumatic growth? A mixed-methods study exploring the positive experiences of informal caregivers.

Background There are currently 5.7million informal caregivers in the UK, with many experiencing psychological distress, compromised social functioning and poor quality of life. Improving the negative impact of caregiving has been a key focus of research in this population. However, there is limited research on the positive experiences of informal caregivers, particularly those caring for traumatic brain injury (TBI) survivors. This study aimed to explore whether informal TBI caregivers have positive experiences resulting from their role and investigate the possibility of post-traumatic growth

Blindness of intentions and metacognitive deficits during moral judgements in schizophrenia.

BACKGROUND: Previous research has shown that moral judgments are affected by social cognitive abilities, such as theory of mind (ToM). This study examines how information about an actor's beliefs and the consequences of their actions affect the moral evaluation of the character's behavior in social events. Our research builds upon previous studies, which have shown that these factors contribute differently to moral judgments made by both adults and young children. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to explore how participants with schizophrenia and healthy controls read stories about social situati
