In a group of 615 cases of perforating trauma, 25 cases (4%) of proven endophthalmitis were seen. The percentage of Bacillus infections was unusually high compared to other types of endophthalmitis (3.8% for the whole group, 31% for the group with intraocular foreign bodies). Bacillus cases have a very poor outcome and in fact the overall functional results in the post-traumatic endophthalmitis group were poorer than in other categories.

Ways for increasing the anthrax treatment efficacy by combined use of antibiotics, toxin neutralizing, immunomodulating, symptomatic and pathogenetic agents are considered. The dynamics of the infection development was studied on rabbits by the microbiological, cytochemical, biochemical and cytomorphologic criteria. The efficacy of monoantibacterial and complex schemes of the etiopathogenetic therapy of the disease at the early and late stages (phases) of the infection generalization was estimated.

A 57-year-old man is presented with blue pseudochromhidrosis affecting the face and neck following combination treatment with lansoprazole, a proton pump inhibitor, and ranitidine, a type two histamine receptor antagonist. The diagnosis was made on the basis of clinico-histological features and growth of Malassezia furfur, and Bacillus species, not Bacillus cereus, in the absence of lipofuscin. The pseudochromhidrosis resolved on stopping both medications and did not recur on restarting only the proton pump inhibitor.

We present the clinical manifestations and morphological characteristics in a case from a patient with familial history of leprosy that presented peripheral neuropathy without cutaneous lesions. The nerves affected showed a loss of myelinated and unmyelinated fibers as well as chronic inflammatory infiltrate. The presence of Hansen's bacillus was demonstrated in macrophages, Schwann cells, endothelial cells, and fibroblasts at light and ultrastructural levels. In this case, the demonstration of the bacillus in the biopsy of peripheral nerve confirmed the diagnosis.
