Oculo-oscillodynamography (OODG) after Ulrich was performed in 11 patients suffering from a monolateral, hemodynamically relevant carotid stenosis identified by Doppler sonography. We describe a 51-year-old woman with a falx meningioma causing Foster Kennedy syndrome accompanied by optociliary shunt vessels on the atrophic optic nerve. The tumor did not directly involve optic nerves or chiasm. The optociliary vessels disappeared after successful tumor removal. The patient's arteriograms, surgical findings, and postoperative course support the theory that optic atrophy in Foster Kennedy syndrome may be caused by compression of the optic nerve by adjacent brain tissue displaced by a distant intracranial mass lesion.

Effects of substance P (SP) and vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) on motor function of bovine sphincter, dilator, and ciliary muscles were investigated pharmacologically, with and without field stimulation. SP contracted the sphincter and the maximum response was only about 25% of that in the presence of equimolar doses of carbachol. SP had no significant influence on the bovine dilator, and VIP lowered the tone of the iris muscles. The results of a retrospective study of pars plana lensectomy by ultrasonic fragmentation are reviewed. More than 93% of the 284 eyes achieved 20/20-20/40 vision. Complications in 284 operations included retinal detachment (1.7%) and chronic macular edema (3.9%). In the last 100 operations performed, 98% of the eyes achieved 20/20-20/40 vision, with one retinal detachment, one macular hole, and no chronic cystoid macular edema.

The axonal transport of proteins was studied by radioautography in preganglionic axons of ciliary ganglia in Leghorn chickens treated by acrylamide. The slow axonal transport of proteins was hardly affected. In contrast, the fast axonal transport was severely impaired. Indeed, radioactive proteins accumulated focally at the periphery of several preterminal axons in regions showing a local disorganization of the smooth endoplasmic reticulum which seemed to be one of the earliest changes induced by acrylamide.

A 15-year experience with excision of selected uveal melanomas indicates that the human eye does not tolerate a dissection of an intraocular tumor exceeding 10 mm in diameter. Twenty-seven out of 35 eyes retained useful vision. Three cases required enucleation after excision, two of these owing to tumor recurrence. Only one tumor death has occurred, five years and four months after excision.
