Safety-aware AI for NSCLC trial pre-screening: a comparative proof-of-concept study of rule-based, single-agent, and multi-agent approaches.

BACKGROUND: Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) trials often involve complex biomarker-driven and line-specific eligibility criteria, making pre-screening labor-intensive and error-prone. In this high-stakes setting, false inclusion-incorrectly judging an ineligible patient as eligible for downstream review-poses a greater clinical risk than other error types. OBJECTIVE: To compare safety-aware AI configurations for NSCLC trial pre-screening, with explicit focus on reducing false inclusion rates and supporting uncertainty-aware abstention under evidence limitations. METHODS: We performed a re

Evaluation of the geometric and dosimetric accuracies of deformable image registration of targets and critical organs in prostate CBCT-guided adaptive radiotherapy.

PURPOSE: Kilovoltage cone beam computed tomography (kVCBCT)-guided adaptive radiation therapy (ART) uses daily deformed CT (dCT), which is generated automatically through deformable registration methods. These registration methods may perform poorly in reproducing volumes of the target organ, rectum, and bladder during treatment. We analyzed the registration errors between the daily kVCBCTs and corresponding dCTs for these organs using the default optical flow algorithm and two registration procedures. We validated the effectiveness of these registration methods in replicating the geometry for

A Novel Method to Predict Carbohydrate and Energy Expenditure During Endurance Exercise Using Measures of Training Load.

BACKGROUND: Sports nutrition guidelines recommend carbohydrate (CHO) intake be individualized to the athlete and modulated according to changes in training load. However, there are limited methods to assess CHO utilization during training sessions. OBJECTIVES: We aimed to (1) quantify bivariate relationships between both CHO and overall energy expenditure (EE) during exercise and commonly used, non-invasive measures of training load across sessions of varying duration and intensity and (2) build and evaluate prediction models to estimate CHO utilization and EE with the same training load meas

Same-day post-therapy imaging with a new generation whole-body digital SPECT/CT in assessing treatment response to [177Lu]Lu-PSMA-617 in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer.

PURPOSE: Lutetium-177 [177Lu]Lu-PSMA-617 radioligand therapy (RLT) represents a significant advancement for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC), demonstrating improvements in radiographic progression free survival (rPFS) and overall survival (OS) with a low rate of associated side effects. Currently, most post-therapy SPECT/CT is conducted at 24 h after infusion. This study examines the clinical utility of a next-generation multi-detector Cadmium-Zinc-Telluride (CZT) SPECT/CT system (StarGuide) in same-day post-infusion assessment and early treatment response to [177Lu]Lu-P

Investigating the variability in pressure-volume relationships during hemorrhage and aortic occlusion.

INTRODUCTION: The pressure-volume (P-V) relationships of the left ventricle are the classical benchmark for studying cardiac mechanics and pumping function. Perturbations in the P-V relationship (or P-V loop) can be informative and guide the management of heart failure, hypovolemia, and aortic occlusion. Traditionally, P-V loop analyses have been limited to a single-beat P-V loop or an average of consecutive P-V loops (e.g., 10 cardiac cycles). While there are several algorithms to obtain single-beat estimations of the end-systolic and end-diastolic pressure-volume relations (i.e., ESPVR and E

Direct incorporation of patient-specific efficacy and toxicity estimates in radiation therapy plan optimization.

PURPOSE: Current radiation therapy (RT) treatment planning relies mainly on pre-defined dose-based objectives and constraints to develop plans that aim to control disease while limiting damage to normal tissues during treatment. These objectives and constraints are generally population-based, in that they are developed from the aggregate response of a broad patient population to radiation. However, correlations of new biologic markers and patient-specific factors to treatment efficacy and toxicity provide the opportunity to further stratify patient populations and develop a more individualized

A device-agnostic shape model for automated body composition estimates from 3D optical scans.

BACKGROUND: Many predictors of morbidity caused by metabolic disease are associated with body shape. 3D optical (3DO) scanning captures body shape and has been shown to accurately and precisely predict body composition variables associated with mortality risk. 3DO is safer, less expensive, and more accessible than criterion body composition assessment methods such as dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA). However, 3DO scanning has not been standardized across manufacturers for pose, mesh resolution, and post processing methods. PURPOSE: We introduce a scanner-agnostic algorithm that automati

Leveraging deep learning for prognostic stratification of hepatocellular carcinoma using histopathological images.

BACKGROUND: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common and lethal malignancies, whose prognostic prediction is particularly challenging. Histopathological biomarkers are critical for cancer prognosis assessment. Advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have made it possible to automate the classification and detection of information from whole-slide pathology images using deep learning. This study aims to utilize AI deep learning to analyze histopathological slides of HCC patients for prognostic stratification, thereby assisting in the development of clinical treatment plans.

Statistical Framework for Multiresponse Analyses: Comparative Assessment of Surface Activation Strategies for 3D-Printed Carbon Black/Polylactic Acid Electrodes toward Electrochemical (Bio)Sensing Applications.

Additive manufacturing using conductive polymeric filaments offers a powerful strategy for fabricating electrochemical (bio)-sensors. However, the insulating polymer matrix often limits electron transfer, demanding surface activation to expose conductive fillers and enhance electrochemical performance. Even electrodes made from bespoke filaments may demand activation. While some reagent-free treatments may require automation or careful process control to minimize operator-dependent variability, and biological treatments may involve longer processing times, chemical and electrochemical activati

Develop a novel non-coplanar trajectory optimization algorithm for an efficient 4pi spot-scanning proton Arc (SPArc-4pi) treatment delivery.

BACKGROUND: The degree of freedom has been recognized as a key factor in particle beam therapy, such as improving the dose conformity and linear energy transfer distributions. Therefore, proton arc therapy has drawn significant interest in the Society of Radiation Oncology as a potentially efficient and optimal treatment option for cancer patients. However, state-of-the-art spot-scanning proton arc therapy (SPArc) still relies on single or dual- co-planar arc trajectories, which limits its capacity to advance the treatment outcome further. There is an urgent need to explore particle beam thera

Humanoid Robot Walking and Grasping Method Using Similarity Reward-Augmented Generative Adversarial Imitation Learning.

This study aims to enhance the precision of humanoid robots in imitating complex human "walking-grasping" coordinated movements. Addressing limitations in sample efficiency and reward function design in Generative Adversarial Imitation Learning (GAIL), we propose the Similarity Reward-Augmented Generative Adversarial Imitation Learning (SRA-GAIL) framework. The method integrates plantar thin-film resistive pressure sensors to measure the real-time pressure distribution at four key points on both feet, combined with roll/pitch angle data acquired from JY901S inertial measurement units (IMUs).
