Mapping the Health Management Journey of Patients With Urostomy: A Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: The treatment of bladder cancer often involves radical cystectomy and urostomy, which increase survival rates but cause significant physical, psychological and social distress. While existing evidence emphasizes treatment and interventions to improve the quality of life, few studies have explored the continuous health management experience and needs of urostomy patients from diagnosis through recovery. OBJECTIVE: To construct a journey map of the healthcare management needs of urostomy patients to explore key pain points in their rehabilitation process and provide a reference for

The difference-making role of staff support in implementing nurse care management for opioid use disorder treatment: A configurational analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Understanding conditions in which interventions succeed or fail is critical. The PRimary care Opioid Use Disorders treatment (PROUD) trial, a cluster-randomized hybrid study, tested whether implementation of office-based addiction treatment supported by a nurse increased medication of OUD. Six health systems each provided two primary care (PC) clinics that were randomly assigned to implement the intervention or usual care. This secondary, exploratory study used an innovative mixed methods approach to understand contextual factors that consistently distinguished intervention clini

Initiating Injectable Buprenorphine in People Hospitalized With Infections: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

IMPORTANCE: Hospitalizations are increasing in the US due to infections related to opioid use disorder (OUD); however, few patients have treatment with medications for OUD (MOUD) initiated. Injectable long-acting buprenorphine (LAB) could help improve MOUD receipt and infection treatment completion. OBJECTIVE: To compare initiation of LAB combined with infectious disease (ID) management (ID-LAB) with treatment as usual (TAU) during inpatient medical hospitalization periods for improving receipt of MOUD at 12 weeks. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: The Coordinating Opioid Use Treatment Thro

Regional Factors and Ambulatory Care-Sensitive Condition Hospitalizations in Older Japanese Adults.

IMPORTANCE: Hospitalization in older adults leads to a decline in daily living activities, and countries experiencing demographic aging face an increase in hospitalization rates and health care costs. Health care systems that can reduce the probability of ambulatory care-sensitive condition (ACSC) hospitalization among older populations are needed. OBJECTIVE: To comprehensively assess the association between regional factors and the probability of ACSC hospitalization among older adults and the extent to which regional factors explain this probability. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: A re

Short- and mid-term morbidity and primary-care burden due to infant respiratory syncytial virus infection: A Spanish 6-year population-based longitudinal study.

BACKGROUND: The morbidity burden of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in infants extends beyond hospitalization. Defining the RSV burden before implementing prophylaxis programs is essential for evaluating any potential impact on short- to mid-term morbidity and the utilization of primary healthcare (PHC) and emergency services (ES). We established this reference data using a population-based cohort approach. METHODS: Infants hospitalized for RSV from January 2016 to March 2023 were matched with non-hospitalized ones based on birthdate and sex. We defined the exposure as severe RSV hospitaliz

Effectiveness of a psychological intervention delivered by general nurses for alcohol use disorders in people living with HIV in Zimbabwe: a cluster randomized controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: There have been very few randomized clinical trials of interventions for alcohol use disorders (AUD) in people living with HIV (PLWH) in African countries. This is despite the fact that alcohol use is one of the modifiable risk factors for poor virological control in PLWH on antiretroviral therapy. METHODS: Sixteen clinic clusters in Zimbabwe were selected through stratified randomization and randomized 1: 1 to Intervention and Control arms. Inclusion criteria for individual participants were being adult, living with HIV and a probable alcohol use disorder as defined by a score

The application potential of virtual reality technology in managing elderly frailty: a meta-analysis.

Frailty is a prevalent geriatric syndrome linked to adverse health outcomes, yet optimal intervention strategies remain limited. Virtual Reality (VR), a technology that enables subjects to immerse themselves in a computer-generated environment, is increasingly used in clinical nursing. Virtual reality has demonstrated both theoretical and practical benefits in mitigating physical, cognitive, and functional impairments among frail older adults; however, its overall efficacy remains to be systematically synthesized. This study aimed to evaluate the specific effects of VR-based training on frailt
