Nursing dying people in an acute hospital: A focused ethnography.

BACKGROUND: Hospitals are the most common place of death worldwide yet dying patients' needs are frequently unmet. Acute wards are oriented toward cure, efficiency and discharge, creating conditions in which recognition of dying and transitions to comfort-focused care are often delayed. Nurses are central to end-of-life care but face moral, cultural and institutional constraints that shape how they can respond. RESEARCH QUESTION: How does the culture of the acute hospital setting shape how nurses manage the transition to comfort-focused care for dying people? DESIGN: Focused ethnography, und

Nurses' Roles in Supporting Digital Engagement and Self-Management in Adults with Type 2 Diabetes: A Scoping Review.

Background: Adults with type 2 diabetes increasingly use patient portals, telemonitoring systems, mobile applications, text messaging programs, and other digital services to support self-management. In practice, however, these approaches often still depend on nursing support to help patients understand, use, and sustain digital care in everyday settings. This scoping review mapped how nurses are involved in supporting adults with type 2 diabetes to use digital tools, information, and services for self-management across care settings. Methods: This scoping review followed Joanna Briggs Institut

Characteristics and contributors to workarounds in the electronic health record system among inpatient nurses: Secondary analysis of a mixed-methods study.

BACKGROUND: The electronic health record system is known to have usability issues, in part, because of a mismatch between the design of electronic health record workflows and the realities of how workflows occur in clinical practice. In response to reducing this mismatch, healthcare workers, including nurses, have developed and implemented electronic health record workarounds. However, the nature and contributors of these workarounds are loosely understood, particularly among nurses, who make up the most common type of electronic health record user. OBJECTIVES: 1) To identify and characterize
